Hey, listen—someone I know has a desktop they’re looking to trade for a laptop. They want an actual valuation first. The specs are pretty dated: an Intel Pentium 2x2 250 3GHz, 4GB of RAM, an ASRock N68C motherboard, and a Sapphire 6570. Roughly what kind of value are we talking about here? They're aiming for a laptop in the same ballpark.

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what I might get for just the processor:

Intel Core i7-920 Processor
(8M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel QPI)

Also, does anyone know if there’s actually still a market for this kind of thing?

Thanks so much! 🙂

It’s got about 700-$267 cores—which makes for a pretty beefy processor—but it's still four generations old, so you know how that goes.

Hey there,

I was wondering if I could get a quick valuation just for the motherboard here:

ASUS ROG Maximus X58 featuring an EVGA X58 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i7
(LGA1366)
DDR3 1600 (O.C.) /1333

Thanks! 🙂

It’s a bit presumptuous of me to start throwing numbers around—honestly, if I had a bucket full of those sockets and my own motherboard was currently fried, I’d probably cough up $167 for one right now. But the real kicker is whether you can actually find someone who actually *needs* a board like that. Most people aren't looking for SLI these days, so they're probably hunting for something way cheaper. There are just too many "ifs" involved here to pin down a solid price.

Man, you're tripping.
With 4 grand, you could put together a rig today that would absolutely smoke yours—like, totally eat it for breakfast.
Maybe take a quick look at Newegg or Best Buy to see what similar setups are actually going for? Honestly, those prices aren't even realistic since they're always changing anyway.

I'd suggest asking the mod to move this over to the used gear appreciation thread—then you can see what everyone else thinks about that price point.

$1333That's enough cash to build a decent machine just for some light gaming.

Do some actual research on sites like Newegg or PCPartPicker to see what comparable builds cost. Your current valuation isn't even grounded in reality; it's just the same recycled numbers over and over.

I suggest the moderator move this thread to the used hardware valuation section. Let's see what the community actually thinks of your offer there.

$1333 That amount of money could easily fund a decent entry-level gaming PC.

Look, I don't know much about this stuff. My expertise lies with cars and motorcycles. This is for a PC—my girlfriend wants it—so how much do you think this whole lot is worth combined?

Around a grand.
The monitor should go for somewhere between 1000 and 1100.
If you're offloading Windows licenses, you're looking at about 700.

Anyway—if you're actually trying to sell this stuff, head over to the hardware marketplace on Craigslist and post it there—not here.

The monitor will run you about $1,000 to $1,100.
If you're looking to offload Windows licenses, expect maybe $700.

Otherwise, if you're actually trying to sell stuff, head over to the hardware section on Craigslist. Post it there, not on this thread.

Sorry, I have no idea how this process works. :/

How much extra would you guys pay for a Dell Inspiron 15 (i5, 4GB RAM, 1GB graphics) if you’re currently rocking an HP EliteBook 6930p? I'm talking a straight-up trade.

Can you get specific about the specs on both laptops? Which i5 are we talking about here? Those EliteBooks come in at least half a dozen different configurations.

The i5-520m is barely an upgrade over something like a T9500—honestly, you might be better off paying more for the other one instead. Not to mention, those EliteBooks are built like tanks compared to that Dell.
