Larry Ortiz5 said:For that kind of cash, you could easily score a solid dual-core rig with 4GB of RAM. But where are you even looking? Give me a city or a specific area so I can actually help you find something worth your money.

Fine, let's say Washington, D.C. Let's see what's out there.
By the way, doesn't matter if it's parts—I'll build it myself. Just let me know when you find something.🙂

Honestly, with the budget you've got, trying to hunt down individual parts to build a PC from scratch is going to be an uphill battle—you might be better off just grabbing a pre-built system. So, here’s a quick list of what I found...

This one actually comes with a monitor included, though it's a bit limited since it only has 2GB of RAM...

With this option, you'd just need to format the hard drive and install Windows 7, especially since it's running a Windows 10 preview right now...

This one looks pretty decent too, and it's being sold as a full bundle with the monitor and all that extra gear—it's just a shame about that 2GB of RAM...

If you're asking me? I'd probably lean toward either the first link or the last one. With the last one, you get a solid monitor that you could potentially sell later, plus you can always upgrade it to 4GB of RAM down the road... Anyway, I'll leave the final call to you.

He doesn't even need a high-end machine. The systems listed up there actually include dedicated graphics cards, which is more than enough for basic Microsoft Office tasks. Something like this would work perfectly:

A dual-core setup with 2 GB of RAM is plenty. Just install Windows 7 32-bit and he'll be good to go. He won't need a massive hard drive either—if he really wants some snappy performance, just have him pop in an SSD.

Thanks, everyone. We'll see. Larry Ortiz5, I think I'll go with the first option, or maybe even what Timothy Kim60 suggested. Any other advice before I pull the trigger on this purchase?

I've settled on these four computers—honestly, they’re the absolute best you can find for running Soma Kuna, and honestly, you won't find anything better than this here in Washington, D.C. 😁

Look, if you want to get Windows 7 running smoothly, your main priority should be securing at least 2GB of RAM and a decent dual-core processor. You can pick up those basic components for next to nothing these days. Everything else is just a nice little extra, but if all you need is a machine for Microsoft Office, you really don't need to overspend on anything more.

I'm looking at picking up a new rig, and now I'm stuck wondering what to actually do with this old machine sitting around, so I figured I'd just ask you guys: roughly how much could I squeeze out of it if I sold it?

CPU: AMD Athlon x4 640 RAM
RAM: 6GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte sat 2
Hard drive: 500GB WD Blue
Graphics card: Radeon HD 4600 Series hard : 500 GB western Digital printer

I don't know all the other specs off the top of my head, but this is what I can recall right now. Everything runs fine. It would be just the tower, no monitor included.

You haven't really given me much to work with here. Just run Speccy and let me see what you're running.
What kind of RAM are we talking about—DDR2 or DDR3? I need the exact motherboard model, the specific graphics card, the case, and even the power supply...

I'm stuck at work right now, but as soon as I get back home, I'll just download it and reinstall everything.

Finally back home.

CPU: AMD Phenom x4 9650 RAM
RAM: 3x2GB DDR2—I know one of those slots is Kingmax, but honestly, I can't be bothered to pull everything out right now.
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (Socket m2)
GPU: Radeon HD 4600 Series
Hard Drive: 500 GB western Digital printer
Drive: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NS30 ATA
Monitor: BenQ G2000W. I was thinking about hooking this up, but what do you guys think about running things both with and without a monitor attached?

Definitely go with this one.

I'd aim for $317.

Personally, I’d jump on $317 immediately.

Wait, could this actually be your listing? 😁

I'd go for the $317.

You gotta change the number too, not just the name.😂

Motherboard: Gigabyte 35-ds3r
CPU: Core2duo e6750 @ 2.66GHz—honestly, it’s capable of much more than this
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800 (2x1GB Ocz Platinum + 2GB Patriot)
GPU: MSI Cyclone GTS 450 1GB GDDR5
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA2
PSU: LC-Power LC8500TX 500W
Case: Chiftec Big Tower

I'm looking for $433. Is this reasonable? I can't go any lower than $1,200.

Hopefully prices on $317 drop soon.🤔

Give me a break here... what even is this? It’s more like a medical history than a spec list; all you forgot to include was which adult sites you visit while using it.🤣

G1610 - $20 approx
P8H61-M LX3 PLUS R2.0 - $150-$67
4GB DDR3 - $100-$50
Apple iPhone 15 - $50 approx
Optical drive -$17

The new G1610 is about ~$77 😉

So honestly, $60.

What kind of power supply are we looking at?
