Hey there,
could I get a quick reality check on what this GPU, CPU, and PSU combo is worth?
CPU: Intel Core i3-12100
GPU: EVGA RTX 3060
PSU: EVGA 400W Power Supply
Everything’s about two years old, though the CPU still has a year left on its warranty.
Everything runs totally fine, but honestly, modern games are starting to kick my butt, so I need to upgrade.

So, what's the ballpark price if I bought everything separately?
#746 ·
That CPU is currently listed starting at $266, so you’re probably looking at a maximum of $200
For the GPU, maybe aim for up to $133
As for the power supply, I'd say maybe $33

CPU $350 - $133
Mobo Not sure, maybe $150 - $67 perhaps
RAM $50
GPU $250 - $100
Case $17 ( if anyone even wants to buy it 😬 )
PSU $50
HDD around $200, maybe a little less

Here is my current setup:
Motherboard: Gigabyte 35-ds3r
CPU: Core2duo e6750 @ 2.66GHz—honestly, it could handle much more than this.
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800 (2x1GB Ocz Platinum + 2GB Patriot)
GPU: MSI Cyclone GTS 450 1GB GDDR5
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA2
PSU: LC-Power LC8500TX 500W
Case: Chiftec Big Tower
I am looking for $433. Is this a fair deal? I won't go a cent over $1,200.

Hey everyone, I need a quick reality check on this rig. I don't have all the specifics, but here’s what I've got:
Specs:
System:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Registered to:
Generic User
76477-OEM-0066862-26145
Manufactured and supported by:
Intel Core i7
AMD Senpron ™ Processor
2500+
1.41 GHz, 1.18 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension
RAM 256 MB
HDD 80 GB
DVD Drive
RAM 400 MHz 256 MB
What's the damage on this? Is it even worth buying if I want to upgrade it for basic office work?
Help. It's urgent. Send me a DM if you can help out.👍

It’s totally fine $67 if you’re just looking to do some light web browsing without running into too many creepy trackers or malware—like on a site like 😁. You could just throw a fresh install of macOS with Service Pack 2 on there and call it a day...

Larry Ortiz5 said:It’s worth $67 for some light browsing where you aren't dodging constant malware or whatever. For instance, on a site like 😁 just install a clean version of Windows with SP3 and call it a day...
Thanks, Larry Ortiz5. Anyone else have thoughts? 😁
edit: Is an upgrade even possible?
I assume Office should run fine?
And is upgrading the RAM actually worth the hassle?
#753 ·
Man, it's honestly not worth spending a single cent on a system that old... If you're really set on picking it up, my best advice would be to just wipe the hard drive completely and install a fresh copy of Windows XP with service pack 3... You should find that Office 2003 runs pretty smoothly on it without much trouble. I can't tell you if you could squeeze in another 256MB of RAM, though—I don't know which manufacturer or model of motherboard you're working with.

Thanks. I already have a real machine for gaming, but this was just something a friend was going to toss out. I figured I'd grab it just for basic office work—Office, browsing the web, that sort of thing.
So it works for that? And will it handle a laser printer installation without crashing?
😁
#755 ·
Only grab it if it’s free 😁
Let's be real—that machine is basically a paperweight at this point. Between the sluggish CPU and the lack of RAM, it’s only good for the most basic tasks. If you’re looking to drop $500/$200 or more, you can find much better hardware out there, like something with a dual-core processor and significantly more memory.

Let's be honest—that machine is already on its last legs for anything beyond the basics (weak CPU, insufficient RAM). If you're looking to drop $500/$200 or more, you could find much better options out there, like something with a dual core or more decent RAM.
Then I might actually need it. Like I said, just for basic office work. I don't have all the specs for this one yet, but if it has two RAM slots, I could probably add more. Do you have any recommendations for a standard office setup? Maybe something around $167 what you'd suggest for a basic office PC? 🙂

Are you looking at used gear or something brand new from a store? What kind of budget are we working with here? Also, do you need a monitor and other peripherals too?
#759 ·
Larry Ortiz5 said:Are we talking used gear or something straight from Best Buy? What’s the budget? Do you need a monitor and peripherals too?
If I build it myself from parts—used is fine. I already have the monitor and everything else. Budget is about $333. Any recommendations? 🙂

Look, if you’re willing to hunt around a bit, you can actually put together a pretty solid computer with a dual-core processor and 4GB of RAM... But you didn't mention where you're located? If you let me know which city or area you're in, I could probably help you track down the best deals—basically, find the best bang for your buck in your neck of the woods.
