Nah.

Your CPU uses a 1151 socket but that motherboard is an 1150. So yeah, that processor isn't going to fit on that board.

Yeah, I realized that after the fact, so I went looking for something else... how about this one:

Would that work?

I mean, would it actually be okay to grab a tiny 32 GB SSD just to run Windows on, or should I really be looking at something with 120 GB or more?

It's way overpriced for what you actually get (probably worth closer to $83), plus you should keep in mind it's pretty weak compared to the Pentium Gold. That one is basically just an i3 under a different name since it has two cores plus Hyper-Threading, which gives you those two extra virtual cores

Nah, not really... That G3258 is just another dual-core chip, and honestly, it’s overpriced just like everything else you've linked here.

Maybe just tell me what your actual budget is and what you want the PC to do—as long as we aren't being totally unrealistic. Otherwise, we could just keep swapping links forever without actually figuring out what you're looking for.😛

I mean, look, it would be much more productive if you just told me what your absolute maximum budget is and what you actually expect from a PC—assuming we aren't talking about some overkill monster. Because if we keep going like this, you could just keep tossing links at me forever without ever actually knowing what you're looking for.😛

So I have $300 well, I think I could stretch to maybe $1,200... and I don't need anything totally insane, just something reasonably fast. I guess I realize I can't really pick out the graphics card myself or whatever... but basically, my biggest headache is when I'm multitasking and the whole thing just locks up or freezes on me, and then I have to hard reset it... that’s easily the worst part. As for gaming, I suppose a kid might be able to put up with a bit of lag for a while... so, really, I just want to know what the best bang-for-my-buck setup is for that amount. Whether that means buying a whole new rig or just upgrading what I currently have, I don't really care.

ASUS Prime H110M-E motherboard, s1151
Intel Pentium G4560 processor
4GB DDR4 (1x4GB) PC4-17000 2133MHz CL15 Crucial, CT4G4DFS8213

Maybe just head over to Newegg and grab this setup; if you pay cash, you might get it for around $383. Just make sure to tell them to flash the latest BIOS onto the board, otherwise, it probably won't even recognize the CPU.

It's a decent, modern platform with plenty of room to upgrade later. I doubt you'll find anything better used—if you do, the price will probably be about the same as buying it retail since these parts are still pretty current.

You can actually ditch your old graphics card because the integrated graphics in this CPU are likely better than what you're running now. It should handle some games on low settings just fine (let some kid test it out).

Obviously, once you swap everything out, you'll need to reinstall macOS. You could probably save about $100 by skipping a new power supply for now (that should be your next move), then maybe grab a GPU or an SSD down the road to really speed things up. You could also look into a new case later since you mentioned those front USB ports aren't working.

What's the deal with those case ports anyway? If they're totally trashed, don't even try plugging them into the motherboard; you might cause a short and fry something.

So, like the title says, I'm looking for a rough idea of what these parts are worth lately

$3,000--$1067. These are solid components, don't get me wrong, but we're talking about a 4th gen processor here. Honestly? You might actually get a better return if you just sell everything off piece by piece.

I was actually thinking about breaking down the individual components, but I figured it would land somewhere around $1000, I just really needed someone to give me a thumbs up on that

If you can't make that work, you're going to have to drop the price down to the 200s. From where I'm sitting, if you're looking at $1300 - $500, you could pick up brand new, comparable 4-core/8-thread Ryzen processors. Even better, for about $1700 - $600, you could grab a much more modern platform—think DDR4 RAM, NVMe drives, and the whole nine yards—all brand new with a full warranty.

By the way, are you absolutely certain about those specs? You listed an LGA 1155 socket with an LGA 1150 CPU. That just doesn't add up.

Hi there. I've got this PC build on offer for about $1,000 (just the tower itself).
I could really use a realistic opinion on its value, so here are a few photos.

I'm looking for a realistic idea of its value and current condition. Here are some photos...

Case: Fractal Core 2500
RAM: 16GB DDR3 HyperX 1866MHz
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K
GPU: AMD R9 390 8GB Overclocked
SSD: Kingston 240GB
Motherboard: Asus Maximus 7 Hero

I guess looking at it from another angle, for about $1300 - $500 you could probably pick up some similar brand new 4-core/8-thread Ryzen chips, and if you push it to $1700 - $600 you're looking at 6-core/12-thread setups on much newer platforms with DDR4 and NVMe and all that stuff, plus everything would be brand new with a warranty.

BTW, are you actually sure about those specs? You listed an 1155 socket motherboard but an 1150 CPU, which doesn't really make sense, right?

Yeah, my bad, I totally messed that up, sorry... the board is actually an ASUS Z87 Extreme 4

Maybe something a bit more powerful than $1500. Either way, I wouldn't drop $2167 on that

I was hoping I could get some kind of estimate here, since I'm seriously considering selling this thing to put toward something a bit more powerful. It’s a Lenovo laptop that's been with me for just under two years now. The specific model is shown in the photo.

image

It's in pretty much peak condition, honestly, and I've always taken it to authorized service centers for maintenance—you know, the usual stuff like dusting it out and swapping the thermal paste. Specs-wise, it's running an i3 4030U, 8GB of RAM, a GeForce 840 m, and a 1TB hard drive.

It's impossible to tell the exact model just from this photo. It might be one of those tables sitting above $333, but nothing larger than $667

Hey, sorry if this isn't quite the right spot for this kind of thing, but it felt even more pointless to start an entirely new thread just to ask.

So, I finally picked up a new GPU a few days ago to replace my old VTX R9 270 x 2 GB GDDR5. That card’s been running for a little over two years now—I actually still have the receipt from Best Buy back in April 2015, specifically $500. Does anyone have any clue what I might be able to get for it on Craigslist? It’s in perfect working order, fully tested, everything works as it should. I was thinking maybe around $167, but does anyone have a different take? More or less than that?

Thanks!
