I honestly think you can handle something light. You didn't throw up because of what you ate; it was the physical exertion. I do some recreational boxing, and my coach constantly pushes us to the limit. There have been plenty of times after a three-minute heavy bag set where I felt like pukingβ€”purely from the effort, nothing to do with food. But your situation is even worse. You aren't eating five hours before training, and you aren't eating after. You’re waiting until the next morning? That's a disaster. You HAVE to eat after your workout!

I’m not saying it’s because of what I ate. It’s more that I just don't want to end up in a situation where I'm sprinting to the restroom again, you know? I'm fully aware it's triggered by the physical exertion itself.

What’s the deal with those protein bars from CVS? Are they actually any good for a post-workout snack?

I grab some random stuff from CVS here and thereβ€”always got a few things in my bag for when I hit a wallβ€”but for my main stack, I stick to MuscleTech or Gold's Gym.

I find myself grabbing them every once in a while too, just to have something to munch on; honestly, they’re better than nothing at all when I've gone too long without a decent meal.

That is a casein protein, which means it’s intended for consumption right before bed.

Can someone point me toward a spot where I can pick up some higher-quality protein? I’ve already cleared out my entire stash of 2kg Optimum Nutrition tubs at the local GNCβ€”and let's just say I'm running low. Since I'm just in town for college, I'm still getting my bearings with the local layout; I don't know the street names as well as I know the different parts of a chest press machine.
thanks

You've got a few options within walking distance of the plaza, but I'd say Helix is probably the most well-known one in the area.

http://www.helix.com

They actually have a map right there on their website if you need to pin down the exact location.

Well, could you give me a few more suggestions for brands that are actually a step up from the ones I just picked up?

Optimum Nutrition is actually a decent brand, if you ask me!

Yeah, they aren't terrible, but let's be realβ€”it’s basically a local outfit that imports all their raw ingredients from overseas and just handles the packaging here in the States. My biggest gripe with them is that they mostly stick to those tiny, inconvenient sizes. If you look at the higher-end stuff available in larger tubs, there's actually quite a bit of variety to choose from. To be blunt, it's probably easier to just give you a list of brands to steer clear of, specifically MuscleTech and Optimum Nutrition. For most of the others, you generally get exactly what you pay for.

I’d personally recommend MusclePharm Wheyβ€”I go with the chocolate flavor and it’s honestly incredible, feels just like drinking hot cocoa... especially after a workout when I toss in an extra scoop of glucose; then it’s basically like chocolate milk with sugar.. 😁

I recently started hitting the gym, and people are telling me that if I supplement with protein, my progress might actually accelerate. I'm 15. Any advice on what brands to pick up or how to use them? I'm a complete novice here.

Look, let me give you some straight talk from the guys... they're the ones who actually get results.

And you aren't going to get anywhere if you aren't a little bit of a rebel.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I mix my whey with water and honestly, it tastes like nothing. It’s pretty bland... what happens if I just toss in an extra scoop? 😁😁

Look, at 15 years old, your body is still basically under construction. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend messing with any protein supplements yet. At least, not right now.
