People fought against sound films when they first arrived. It was the same story with Blockbuster; everyone trashed them when they first hit the scene. Now that DVDs are out, people are getting all nostalgic for tapes. It’ll be the exact same thing when Blu-ray shows up at our doorstep. It's just a cycle. 😬

End of discussion. Moderators, please lock this thread. ☕

Look, you see where this is headed? The movie is turning into a GAME—and I’m talking a real video game here

I grab a DVD Final Destination 3 and suddenly I’ve got the power to decide who dies and when... multiple endings... way more choices...

man...

🤷
David Price5 said:you forgot about the tape getting tangled, or the head cleaning issues...

jittery playback, skipping, and those terrible amateur subtitles
I've got two DVDs that were basically just ripped straight from a Blockbuster tape
they've even got those classic Blockbuster tracking lines running through them😂

The footage is shaky, skipping, poorly shot, and has amateur subtitles.
I actually own two DVDs that were basically just ripped from a Blockbuster tape.
They even have those classic tracking lines you'd see on an old VCR. 😂

You also forgot about the "tracking" button used to clear up static. Regardless, ever since I got high-speed internet, my movie quality has improved significantly. How much time would it take you all to hunt down some obscure Asian cult classics today? Honestly, how many movies can anyone actually finish? My only struggle now is the sheer volume of content. You download dozens, but if you're lucky, you might watch one—maybe two if you have the free time. It's overwhelming when I think about my massive backlog of unwatched films.

Even if I wanted to, there just isn't enough time. You download five titles and barely get through one. Honestly, my collection of movies and series is already massive enough to keep me busy for three years straight, provided I don't overdo it.

Honestly, I’m more worried about the disc itself giving up the ghost before I even get a chance to watch the movie. It feels like the hardware is going to die before the credits roll. It’s already happened 😢

Kenneth Lee16 said:DVDs are still way too pricey for me... so I was thinking about picking up two solid players and maybe grabbing a batch of 400 original Blockbusters. Any idea what those kinds of things go for?

Totally doable. I was over in Indianapolis once when a local video store was closing down, and they were selling stuff like deadly weapon for $1.75...

Honestly, you’re better off just switching to DivX. You can grab some killer players for basically $60, and finding movies is a total breeze

My collection of about 150 DVDs suddenly feels pretty small by comparison.

Me too!!!

Look, man, why are you stressing out over this?
It’s never about how much you have; it’s about how good it actually is. 😉

Of course. 😬

I honestly have no clue what I’d even do with 800 DVDs. I wouldn't even know where to put them all. 😁

Just imagine if someone had told you seven or eight years ago that regular people would be sitting on 3 or 4 terabytes of data at home...

But what would you even say if I told you I actually have 1,286 VHS tapes sitting around?

🤷

I really hate the word "trash"☕

I’ve got about 1,100 movies I haven't even touched yet
plus a dozen series or so😲

So, what would you call those wild Asian titles? You know, the ones that mix comedy, drama, and horror all at once...

Who on earth says you can't find blank VHS tapes anymore?! You can literally grab them at any Best Buy or pretty much any corner shop if you look hard enough. VHS rules😛

quietviper14 said:Who keeps claiming you can't find blank VHS tapes anymore? It’s honestly ridiculous. You can still pick them up at any Best Buy or even most local hardware stores if you know where to look. People love to act like everything from the past just vanished overnight. Honestly, VHS still rules.😛

It’s not that you can't find it if you have the cash; it’s just that they don't make it anymore. It's like trying to track down a specific vintage Ford engine or a discontinued flavor of Oreos—it’s not a matter of supply meeting demand, it’s that the assembly line has already moved on to something else. Once the manufacturers pull the plug, the whole thing just becomes a ghost hunt.
Inventory shrinkage. It’s one of those slow, quiet leaks that eventually drains the entire tank. You look at the books, you look at the shelves, and the math just doesn't add up. It isn't always some dramatic heist or a smash-and-grab job; more often than not, it’s just a steady erosion. A bit of shoplifting here, a little administrative error there, maybe some spoiled goods sitting in the back of a warehouse in Chicago that nobody bothered to check until it was too late. It’s like trying to fill a bucket with a dozen tiny pinholes. You can pour as much profit as you want into it, but if you aren't plugging those holes, you're just wasting your time.

well, how would you even label an American movie that’s simultaneously horror, sci-fi, drama, thriller, and romance...

😁

it’s just an Asian film... I assume you're talking about stuff from Hong Kong or Japan...
you've got a good Japanese film or a bad Japanese film... a good Japanese horror comedy or a bad Japanese sci-fi horror comedy
