😁

It’s just an Asian film... I assume you’re thinking of Hong Kong or Japan...
A good Japanese film, a bad Japanese film... a good Japanese horror comedy, or a bad Japanese sci-fi horror comedy.

Honestly, the craziest movies always seem to come out of Asia... we really need a name for this genre mashup, provided we don't just call it trash.

I’d probably tell you that you have way too much spare cash, far too much free time, and a serious case of collector's obsession. 😁

Well, I definitely don't have a mountain of cash to throw around, but I certainly have the time. And yeah, I'll admit it—I am a huge collector.

????

I mean, if any native English speakers want to set me straight, go ahead...
but here in the States, people just toss that term around whenever they feel like it, even when it doesn't fit at all.

So... yeah... it's about having a sense for the vibe, I guess.
This actually seems like a solid event.
...

In actual English usage, there's a specific artistic connotation to the word.

"Trash" shouldn't be used for clothing, or certain films, or music videos... it's not just a catch-all for anything you don't like.

Look, I’m a bit of a collector myself—got about 600 DVDs sitting on my shelves... but honestly? VHS is just going to stay a nice little memory for me. I mean, most of us basically grew up with those bulky tapes, right? But as long as I’m dealing with grainy footage, constant rewinding, and having to clean the heads on a VCR just to watch something, I have to say—DVDs are just superior. You get that crystal-clear picture, subtitles that actually make sense (assuming they weren't written by idiots), and they're way easier to store. It makes it so much easier to toss the old tapes into the basement, some dusty closet, or just straight into the trash. At the end of the day, the film industry doesn't really have room for sentimentality.

So, I finally hauled the last box of Vanguard tapes down to the basement last night
now it's just a bunch of loose cassettes in plastic cases with those old-school colorful covers scattered around

I made sure to hang onto a few rarities, though—things like
the silent version of Ben Hur
Dracula from '32
Metropolis
that specific cut of Nosferatu
and Once Upon a Time in America, since I don't have a digital copy of that one yet

It honestly scares me thinking that DVDs will eventually end up where VHS is today. Just when you finally get a decent collection together, Blu-ray and HD-DVD come knocking on the door...
ugh, forget you, Blu-ray...🙂

Still, you can play a DVD on most Blu-ray or HD-DVD players, so I don't think DVDs will disappear from the scene quite as fast

Some movies just aren't available on Blu-ray, even though they were easy to find on VHS back in the day. Plus, not everyone has the bandwidth or desire to constantly download stuff from the internet... personally, I'm all for keeping some VHS tapes, just for specific titles. I think people take this whole Blu-ray collecting thing way too seriously. For me, it’s more important to actually own the movies I want—whether that's an old tape or a disc—than to have a library of a thousand digital files that I haven't watched, don't care about, or are just low-quality rips. I've got maybe 30 original Blu-rays and a few burned ones, and honestly, having those real cases on my shelf feels much better, kind of like having a little home video library. I never touch those digital files, and they definitely don't get any display space. I also still have some original tapes that I really cherish, so I'm not planning on getting rid of my VCR anytime soon. No offense intended, just how I feel...
