...So, last night—despite my best efforts to be a functional adult—I managed to trip over something on the floor and went down hard, slamming right into the corner of a PVC window frame with edges that were just *way* too sharp...

And just like that, right in the middle of the divider, I ended up with this bloody slit about half an inch long. I applied some Vaseline and even used a piece of frozen chicken (wrapped in sterile gauze, of course!) to try and keep the swelling down and dull the pain...

Okay... so here we are today. It’s been 24 hours since that unfortunate little accident, and my head is still pounding. It isn't just the spot where I took the hit, either; the pain is radiating toward my forehead...
I didn't want to bother a doctor because I figured I probably wouldn't need stitches. The wound itself seems to be closing up slowly, but I am genuinely concerned because the pain is still quite intense, both at the cut and in the surrounding area...
I'm feeling a bit anxious...
What should my next move be? Should I apply a specific ointment, or would it be wiser to keep a sterile bandage over it to prevent any kind of infection?

Honestly, I'm worried that I might have sustained some internal damage from the impact that isn't visible on the surface. It's really weighing on me.
As far as I can tell, there's no concussion—I haven't noticed any of those typical symptoms yet...

It feels somewhat silly to head to the ER now. Every time I go, they act like you're being a nuisance if you aren't literally dying or in a life-threatening crisis...

The bottom line is that my entire head is still aching significantly. What do you all suggest I do??

Hey, first off—congrats on being an absolute klutz, girl. 🙂

You totally reminded me of the time I tried to wash my hair—I was leaning way over the tub, head upside down and everything—anyway, I’m heading toward the tub, getting ready to flip my hair over, and *bam*—I smash my forehead right into the porcelain rim 😲

There was this sickening crunching sound, and my immediate thought was, "Well, I just cracked my skull open and I'm probably gonna die by accident one day." 🤣

Long story short, I survived that round, but it hasn't stopped me (or taught me a single thing) from still slamming—mostly my face—into every corner, edge, doorframe, cabinet, and window that happens to be in my path. 🤣

Hope you get what I'm saying here. You aren't alone in this struggle. 😉

As for your head—if you didn't pass out, and honestly, you seem to be talking (typing) pretty normally, it's likely nothing major. Unless you made a massive hole that's bleeding like crazy or staying wide open, it shouldn't be a huge deal, so don't panic.

It hurts? Yeah, obviously. You hit yourself hard, and on a sharp edge at that. Just take some light OTC stuff like Tylenol.

Don't go smothering it with bandages; let the wound "breathe" and dry out. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it isn't gaping or leaking anything weird.

Don't bother rushing to the ER, but maybe give your primary care doctor a call tomorrow and tell them what happened. That's your actual doctor—the one who's supposed to look out for you—whereas everyone else at those big hospitals usually couldn't care less.

Good luck 😘

Hopefully, you'll get some more professional advice than my rambling. This was just a friendly heads-up.

Sandra Wood45 said:Oh, first off—let me just offer my sincerest condolences for your sheer clumsiness, dear sister! 🙂

It immediately brought back such a vivid memory of my own mishap involving my hair. I was attempting to wash it over the edge of the bathtub—you know, leaning way out there, all contorted—and as I was moving toward the tub to finally flip my hair over, I ended up slamming my forehead into the porcelain rim with everything I had. 😲

Forgive me, but I couldn't help but chuckle quite heartily at this... I seem to have a talent for these little accidents myself!

And if you think that’s bad, you should see the scar I have on my eyebrow from the time I lunged headfirst toward my office chair...

Greetings from a fellow klutz 👋

I once took a tumble from about three feet up. I actually managed to dodge some serious injury by letting my head slam right into a metal pipe—it made that distinct, hollow 😳 sound. I ended up sporting a pretty noticeable bump for quite a while afterward 😵

It’s honestly wild how much work the head can do, acting like a buffer to take the brunt of the impact so the rest of you stays safe 😬

I once wiped out from about three feet up and managed to dodge some real nasty injuries by basically smacking my skull right into a metal pipe (you know, that classic hollow *thud* 😳 ). I actually rocked the massive bump on my head like a badge of honor for a long time after that 😵

It’s honestly wild how your head can act like a sacrificial lamb just to protect the rest of your body—taking the brunt of the hit so you don't end up in a wheelchair 😬

🤣 🤣 🤣

Oh my god, I am so sorry... but I am literally pissing myself laughing over here. I just totally pictured you walking around with a whole frozen turkey strapped to your head! 😂

I am so sorry... I am actually laughing out loud here. I just had this mental image of you walking around with an entire frozen chicken perched right on top of your head! 😂

It doesn't matter though...
But, honestly... goodness gracious... that particular piece of poultry really was the perfect fit for my head...
And if I recall correctly, it looked exactly like a chicken breast...
Just the most perfectly shaped thing for my head...

When you’re standing there over that stove, roasting that chicken with all the pride in the world, you’re gonna look at it and think, "Man, this bird seriously saved my life"😍

Yes!!! Absolutely! I couldn't agree more!
Well, if someone is going to go around claiming that we just slaughter chickens for no reason at all... honestly, I find such a statement to be incredibly shortsighted and frankly quite dismissive of the entire agricultural process! It’s easy to make those kinds of sweeping generalizations when you aren't looking at the bigger picture, isn't it?

I came here looking for some actual, serious advice from grown-ups, and yet, look at how this thread has devolved!!

Honestly, I am embarrassed for all of you—this is nothing but mockery! 🙂

I know that feeling all too well! 🤣
It really gives you a sudden, cosmic understanding of all the star systems out there 😁
as well as the ones we haven't discovered yet 🤣

But honestly, you guys are all amateurs compared to my dad!
In my 43 years, I don't think there's been a single day where I didn't see some kind of bump or healing wound on his head. 😬

Well... I suppose that’s how it will be. One day, my children will sit around and tell stories about me just like this. 😍

I’m basically a magnet for high-risk sports, so I end up bruised and battered pretty often. But honestly? My absolute favorite injuries are the ones so embarrassing I can barely even admit them out loud! 😍 Like, I seriously thought I was the only person on earth who has slammed their entire face into the bathtub... or that time I caught my nose right in the trunk of my car. Then there was the time an old window on a city bus practically smacked me on top of the head, or when I tripped over my own dog and ended up face-planting down the stairs. Poor little girl of mine is going to be constantly competing with her mama to see who can rack up more bruises and scrapes. 😍

I really ought to rename this thread to something more like "all my aches and pains"
or perhaps something along those lines...

I’ll never forget when my youngest daughter came home looking like she’d been through a literal war zone—scrapes, bruises, dirt everywhere...
my heart absolutely skipped a beat
and the reason? She tripped over a stray leaf on a perfectly flat sidewalk! 🤣
Honestly, I was ready to go hunt someone down for negligence!

I was already mentally preparing myself to go out and hunt down whoever was responsible!

Over a leaf....
😂 😂

How on earth does one even manage that??😕

Back when I was a chunky 25-year-old, I actually sprinted toward the front door of my house and managed to plow straight through the "shatterproof" glass panel—hands, knees, everything. I absolutely wrecked myself like a total idiot. 🤣

And then there’s today—just rushing to grab my phone and ending up slamming the receiver right into my hip. 🤣

Honestly, the only reason I’m still standing is because I finally realized how much of a klutz I am. Now I do everything at half-speed just to compensate, so if I do manage to crash into something, at least it doesn't leave me in a body cast. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Kate Cox2 said:How on earth did she pull that off??😕

She just has this way of making everything look easy while the rest of us struggle!😁
Honestly though, she looked like she’d been through a total wringer—if I hadn't known her for years, I wouldn't have even believed it was her.
