Look, I want a piece of wood that actually looks good. My goal is for the whole thing to look like a single, hand-carved trunk once I'm finished. It’s going to be an absolute grind, but I’m willing to put in whatever work is necessary.

Hey everyone, I finally tracked down a gorgeous specimen of a rare flowering dogwood. They're pretty hard to come by around here, but if luck is on my side, this tree is going to be the centerpiece of my new backyard shed.

Sure, turning a scrap piece into something impressive would be cool, but you’d need much more heavy-duty equipment for that kind of work 😢.
Believe me, once you properly sand the wood down and apply a high-quality finish, it looks just like high-end furniture from a showroom.

By the way, you don't paint wood.

LOL, my first neighbor actually happens to be a carpenter with his own shop. But hey, that only works if I can track down a decent carcass from a local rancher, since those guys guard their livestock like it's gold.👎 If my neighbor is up for it, we might actually make something cool out of it.

So, basically, you’re telling me my only real job is to hunt down a decent case and hand over the blueprints? It sounds like that carpenter is going to be doing all the heavy lifting anyway 😁 I mean, I’d love to take that route, but unfortunately, I don't have a local woodworker or a glass specialist for the plexiglass hanging out next door, so looks like I'm stuck doing the whole thing myself 😢 :P

You clearly missed the point. My neighbor is just doing the woodworking; I'm the one handling all the assembly. It’s not like I have any clue how to mill timber, and for heaven's sake, I'm not trying to build a computer case out of a raw log!

And I'm not looking for a pre-made chassis. We're building this thing from scratch—if you had actually read the thread from the start, you'd know that.

My bad, I totally misread my own thoughts there and ended up typing "case" when I actually meant the dimensions and all that stuff. :P I was focused on the measurements and everything else. =) Anyway, can you shoot me a link to a sample of that wood you're planning to use?

That’s basically it. That wood looks like it's from a poplar tree, I think—not entirely sure, though. Some guy I know mentioned it once.

That’s exactly why I picked that specific wood 🙂 so now the hunt for materials begins. Heading out to the woods later today to cruise around and see if my luck holds up. 🙄

Don't tell me you're actually planning on going out hunting for tree sap.🙏

Of course I want one, I live out in the sticks.👍
My old man told me how hard it is to track down wood like that; he’s been working the timberlands on his off days for 20 years and only spotted that specific tree a handful of times. Hopefully, I'll have better luck than him.

It’s probably for the best that you didn't start working on the eucalyptus. 😁
I hope you manage to find it. Best of luck.

. I hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck.

Hmm... maybe he should just track down some Baobab?
People say there's a literal water reservoir inside the trunk, so if he actually found a real specimen, he wouldn't even need to bother machining the wood 😁.

Look, I grew up in the rural Midwest, and my advice is simple: grab a saw, head straight out to the yard, and just cut into whatever falls in front of you—just start cutting 🍿.

They say there's a "reservoir" of water inside the trunk, so if he found a genuine specimen, he wouldn't even need to work the wood much😁.

Coming from a rural background myself, I’d say just grab a saw, head out to the yard, and start cutting into whatever falls in your path🍿.

In that case, it might be better to attach a water pump; then it would have automatic liquid cooling☕ ☕

He could always just order a cord of beech through one of those local classified ads.☕
