She probably couldn't believe anyone in the States actually knew a word of Finnish... like, why would anyone even bother learning it here?

There’s actually an American-Finnish social club that used to advertise language classes right next to a pile of empty Finn beer bottles—just in this tiny little street-level window in the walkway beneath a massive skyscraper. And a buddy of mine tells me they even offer courses over at the local community college...

Back when I was still high on those delusional hopes of actually finishing college, I was seriously considering picking up Portuguese as a minor. My brother just laughed at me and said, "Look, people study Italian because of Dante, or German because of Goethe, but trying to learn Portuguese just so you can read Sennine interviews in the original language? That’s a bit much, even for you..." 😁 Following that logic, trying to pick up Finnish would be even more unhinged...

On a philosophical note... I tried taking a class once, but it was just too much. It was basically thirty of us young finance types with terrible English accents, and the instructor made us repeat every single sentence out loud—every single time. 🙄I ended up giving up after a few weeks. Still, it's such a fascinating language; apparently, it has 15 different cases. 😬

Yeah, totally forgot to log today's feast: two juicy cheeseburgers, some grilled sliders, and chicken livers wrapped in bacon. All washed down with a dark stout—nice, I like. Oh, and I missed logging last night's Ramadan too... That pretty much wraps up the RDA ground beef intake for the weekend.

Man, it's midnight. I really should grab a snack, huh.

My tenant just arrived from Pittsburgh—he brought along some authentic, spicy summer sausage... real deal stuff. To go with it, I've got some fresh cheese and cream I picked up at Pike Place Market earlier today, some hearty multigrain bread, some creamy deli cheese, and a jar of Hellmann's mayo—the full spread... Someone mentioned that one really ought to indulge every once in a while, wouldn't you agree? 😬
