That sorceress was something else!

Are you thinking of Moss Man or someone else?

And guys, are we talking about June?
Nothing beats when the guy whose ass is sticking out gets accidentally clocked in the head with a ball. 😁

Today's peak optimism award:

The geriatric research center is suggesting we extend working years
for guys up to age 70
and women up to 68

In the same article:

Expected life expectancy here in the States
men at 72
women at 79

Not bad: that gives the old folks two extra years for hot water bottles and listening to Buzzcocks on local radio.🙂

Gross. Those are the worst candies ever. 🤮
They call it a "sweet secret" because you don't realize that once you get past the hard outer shell, you're stuck with some slimy, disgusting sludge.

My top 5 favorite sweets:
1. Bubblegum that actually lets you blow big bubbles—they don't make them like that anymore.
2. Round gumballs.
3. Animal crackers.
4. Those things you put on your tongue that pop, turn into gum, and then you eventually just eat.
5. Whatever my mom used to make out of coconut and other stuff; it was delicious. There was chocolate involved too.
6. PEZ.
7. Round lollipops.
8. Flat lollipops.
9. That red-and-white candy cane stick that nobody actually knows how to eat politely.
10. Hershey's chocolate.

Forget chocolate. 🙂

It’s like a sweet little trap—you think you're getting that satisfyingly firm center, but then you hit that gross, slimy, revolting mess instead.

My top 5 all-time favorites:

Man, I could talk about food all day...

1. Orange Gatorade gummies
2. Frozen treats or fudge bars (depending on my mood)
3. Nutella
4. Apple strudel (but only if it's from a high-end bakery, not some greasy late-night spot)
5. Deep-fried almonds
🙂

5, 4, and 2... 👍

but: how can you pick something as sterile as 'Megapunk' as your number one when you have such absolute gems like 'Bolivia R&B' and 'We're Only Here for the Money' in your catalog?😕

Great—so we get two extra years of diapers, heating pads, and listening to Buzzcocks on local radio. Fun times.🙂

Awesome. I can look forward to 11 years of diapers, heating pads, and the Buzzcocks. Being female definitely has its perks. 🙂

Anyway, three Bradbury stories I can actually recall off the top of my head:
1) The Sound of Thunder
2) Rocket
3) The Smallest Dragon
Not sure where that came from?

Maybe it was Neil Young — On the Beach.

But seriously: how can you claim an album as sterile as 'Megapunk' is their best, when they have absolute masterpieces like 'Bolivia R&B' and 'We're Only Here for the Cash'? 😕

🙂 Look, Megapunk is actually their most mature work...

Red and sticks🙂

I mean, given how absolutely legendary albums like 'Bolivia R&B' and 'We're Only Here for the Money' are, I guess it's a bit surprising that you’d pick something as sterile as 'Megapunk' as your number one choice? 😕

Yeah, that’s a pretty strange choice, isn't it? I mean, there isn't even any heavy metal or sex involved...

@L: "Megapunk" is sterile?! Between "Bozin," "The decline of the West," "But it isn't over yet," and "Brilliance"—you call that sterile? You've got no soul... 🙂

@Narandjasti: Yeah, maybe there should have been a dedicated punk movement, a separate alternative list. I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

1. Paraf - "Zastave"

Heh... what’s the criteria for 'domestic'? Especially since you picked Paraf from that specific era. It feels a bit unfair to separate 'our' bands from 'their' bands back then.

Here’s my list:

7. Overflow - Through Department Store
6. Lublanski psi - Draining with soda 1979-81
5. The Charlatans - Bistar...
4. KUD Idijoti - Legendary Live
3. Paraf - Zastave
2. Zastava 2. Punk Bands - Dolgcajt, obviously😉
1. Majke - s/t - the so-called Zero Tape

I was thinking specifically about American bands, though even if I expanded my scope to the entire US, I suspect the list would remain largely unchanged... Perhaps I should toss in "national pet" or "Song Machine" somewhere. 😍

Take Dirty Theater, for example... it all depends on how you define "punk-alternative" these days. By modern standards, that album feels a bit sugary, but back then? It was definitely heavy-hitting alternative music. Even the Punkerts sound a little static and unconvincing on their recordings now—just my take on the music itself. But you can't deny that raw, depressed '80s vibe and the band's sheer charisma. 🙂 As for the Frozen stuff... if we’re judging by today's standards, maybe only two or three tracks from my list would actually hold up.

Alternative to what exactly? Pop music, the mainstream scene, high society...?
Or does "alternative" just mean anything that isn't a radio hit?
If we’re talking about how stuff spreads through the US—thematically, structurally, even stylistically—then those first two albums by Punkert definitely fall under the alternative label. Especially considering how much the band members barely knew how to play their instruments back then...
Take Idol, for example. They aren't an alternative band per se, but "Idol - Defense" definitely is. It was experimental musically, and socially, because of its leanings toward traditionalism, which was a massive middle finger to the ruling ideology at the time.
And obviously, the most important part—what kind of alternative list is it without Bulldozer? They fit every single criterion, probably more so than bands like Hladno Pivo or Mother's Milk...
Basically, it's all just noise...

Or is "alternative" just a label for anything that isn't popular?

Basically, it's pointless.

Hold on.. this was an album selection, not a list of bands. At certain points, some of those bands released a good or even great album based on our PERSONAL taste—mine and Kevin Chavez3's—that we could classify as alternative. By that, I mean being ignored by the media, having cult status locally or slightly wider, or just having a musical style that differs from the "norm." Why does everyone immediately jump to talking about youth when they use the term "alternative"?
