Dana Anderson4 said:I guess I thought those dumb stereotypes like "Midwesterners have rosy cheeks, while Californians wear gold chains" were set in stone for everyone...😬

And I thought smart people understood that generalizations describe an average, not every single person, which makes them valid. 😛 The whole issue is just that you keep trying to rewrite them every five minutes. 😉

Like saying folks from rural Iowa make terrible wine. Yeah, right. 😬

brightridge19 I can't even begin to describe how much this makes my blood boil... honestly, it’s just one thing after another with people like this...
Queer as Folk... honestly, where do we even start with that one? It’s such a massive, complicated piece of television history that people still can't stop arguing about decades later... 😍 Friends? What friends are we even talking about when that kind of thing actually exists... Man, I am absolutely loving this... It is just incredible...

BOOM! There it is! That’s exactly what I’m talking about... finally! 😍 Can I shoot you a DM? I’m seriously dying to rewatch that series again...

So... anyway... Gale Harold... just pure evil...

brightridge19 said:Honestly, the only thing I can't stomach watching is explicit gay sex... it just makes me feel so incredibly uncomfortable... 😳

Look, I’ve never really been able to wrap my head around that part of it... honestly, it’s always been a bit of a mystery to me. But hey, I can watch it all day long without blinking. At the end of the day, when you're fired up, you're fired up, and nothing else really matters...😈

Carol Jackson45 said:I always figured smart people would get that generalizations aren't about one specific person—they're just looking at the average, which makes them pretty much facts. 😛 The whole point is just that you're constantly having to audit them. 😉

People from the countryside always seem to have the worst wine, don't they? 😁

Look, a lot of what you're saying here just doesn't hold water—it feels like it's mostly based on your own assumptions. It really all comes down to perspective. For example, if someone called my last post funny, I’d just say, "Fine, then I guess I don't have a sense of humor." But I won't. Honestly, I'm too busy dodging that dark cloud hanging over your smiley face.😬 People from the countryside make terrible wine, which explains why their faces are always so red.

I hear you, Dana Anderson4, but honestly, this whole thing regarding the Pride parade in Miami always rubbed me the wrong way 🙂
In fact, I used to be convinced that the rest of the world was just totally obsessed with those Nloić types and that everyone was out to get us here in Miami 😵
(though I guess I tend to exaggerate a bit sometimes)

My post wasn't supposed to be funny, it was supposed to be pissed off because I had to drag myself out of bed at 8 AM for work. It’s a damn Saturday and it’s cloudy too (yeah, you noticed). Don't question my sense of humor just because you think it should have been a joke 🙂

As for everything else, sure, it all depends on your perspective. Just like how we Americans are seen as icy hillbillies while we think of ourselves as warm, awesome, and spontaneous, they probably think they're spontaneous compared to, say, Germans, while looking at us as stubborn primitives who yell way too much.

But you're wrong if you think that viewpoint is just mine. For example, me and all my buddies from Miami—Chicago think we talk too quiet. On the flip side, to those same people, Southerners sound like we're screaming our heads off constantly. Generalizations come from a broad perspective, not just a subjective one.

Given all that, those generalizations above hold up. If people actually thought about where they came from, maybe they wouldn't complain about their accuracy so much 😉

And I'm not gonna eat you alive. I've been venting for four hours already, it's about time I quit 🙂

@ Nicholas Perez33, being proud of the city or country you come from is annoying regardless of where you're from. Is there anything stupider than being proud of the random patch of dirt your mother decided to spit you out onto?

The most common clichés and questions from festive locals in the coastal cities:
1. "Man, who is actually footing the bill for this?"
2. "I don't have a care in the world while I'm sipping coffee; life is perfect living in the most beautiful city on earth."
4. "So, are you rooting for the local favorites or the big city powerhouse?"
5. "Go ahead and cheer for the big city team; I'll stick with my hometown legends."
6. "Isn't it true that things are just better here than back in your neck of the woods?"

And there are plenty more where those came from...

As for everything else, of course it all depends on your perspective. Just as Americans might view Austrians as cold and distant while we see ourselves as warm, wonderful, and spontaneous, they probably view themselves as spontaneous compared to, say, Germans, while seeing us as stubborn and overly loud.

However, you are mistaken if you attribute that specific viewpoint solely to me. For instance, among my friends from Miami, people in New York say we talk too quietly. On the flip side, to New Yorkers, those of us from the South sound like we're shouting constantly. Generalizations stem from a broad perspective rather than just a subjective one.

Given all that, the generalizations mentioned above hold true. If people thought a bit more deeply about where these perceptions originate, perhaps they wouldn't complain about their accuracy quite so much.😉

And I won't eat you alive; I've been frustrated for four hours now, so it's high time I call it a night.🙂

@ Nicholas Perez33, being overly proud of your city or country is irritating regardless of where you actually come from.😁

How can you spot a Miami local on a subway? You just listen for the volume of their voice.

Summary (which I totally agree with):

The single worst trait in anyone, regardless of where they're from:
1. Being obsessed with their roots...

What makes them so flashy, though? How can you even tell they're posers?🙄

Drew Adams58 said:1. Basically, man, just look at who can actually afford this stuff.

Man, honestly, you're right. For me, nobody can touch that sun and ocean vibe.😛

Drew Adams58 said:How to spot a Splitter on the subway—just listen to them talking.

See, you're proving my point. But don't be like that, you'll offend the Dubrovnik residents too.😬

I can't really blame you—I haven't slept yet either. Honestly, I don't think I've ever talked this much in one sitting before. My mind is just a chaotic blur of my favorite things and my deepest fears—which, unfortunately, are often the exact same thing. Good grief. I am practically spilling my guts all over this forum. So, the only scene that popped into my head was that awkward moment where Brian first encounters young Justin in the pilot episode? It definitely improved later on, you're right. 😈

Of course, send me a DM. I'm not sure why you'd even ask such a question.

People who think they're "spontaneous" probably see themselves that way compared to, I don't know, Germans; meanwhile, they view us as stubborn primitives who yell way too much.

But honestly, you're wrong if you think that perspective applies just to me. It's like how all my buddies from San Francisco talk; New Yorkers say we're way too quiet. Then again, to a New Yorker, people from the South sound like we're constantly screaming. These generalizations come from a broad cultural lens, not just a personal one.

?

As for your first point, it's actually the opposite... Germans are total sweethearts to Austrians. If there's a prototype for the "German" we imagine, it's really just an Austrian.😬

And your second point is spot on. I remember a buddy telling me about when he first hung out in Washington, D.C. with a friend from San Francisco. They walked past a flower market, and later his buddy asked him, "Was there a police raid happening just now?" "Why?" "Everyone was being so quiet." I guess the guy just wasn't used to people actually talking *to* their companions at a table instead of shouting to the whole room.😁

One funny truth to leave you with regarding where we come from... I stumbled upon this realization in a book recently (anywhere from here to Lepant).

Americans are basically just Poles who turned out really well.😁

Honestly, you can never have too much geeky content because, let’s face it, this sub is all about those deep dives!
Here are my top 4 favorite bands that I "discovered"* this year:

1. Punk Rock Playlist
2. Thin Lizzy
3. Ultravox 👋
4. The Dead Milkmen

* - I mean, I’d heard of them and knew a little bit, but I had no idea they were actually this incredible!

Nicholas Perez33 said:I’ve been sitting here thinking about this for a long time, and honestly, the only thing that keeps coming to mind is Manu Chao... 😬

Manu Chao basically justified his entire existence with that one concert at the Salad venue. It wasn't even about the music, honestly—it was more about the absolute chaos surrounding it. We had Kuniko there, this Japanese woman who was actually kind of short, even by their standards. At one point, she started feeling sick, probably just couldn't catch her breath being surrounded by us Dinarids... Ribafish ended up rushing her over to the ER. They did the whole routine—intervention, IV drip, the works—before realizing it wasn't actually anything serious. Then things just went sideways. It was just pure madness: the ER staff, the cops, us... Since they needed to fill out her info, they had to dig through her purse and find her passport to check her last name. Turns out, her surname is Koma. The doctor apologized for a second, stepped out of the ambulance where Kuniko couldn't see her, and just lost it laughing. Even the cops were buzzing on their radios to other patrols like, "Man, you are not gonna believe this..." 🤣

Top 6 eats from last week in Chicago:

1. Souvlaki, gyro, or kebab - basically meat wrapped in pita with a mountain of veggies 🙂
2. Biftekia - kind of like a burger
3. Kebab - similar to a massive sub
4. Gyro - I think you know what that is
5. Shrimp Scampi - just like how we make it here, but stuffed with feta cheese. Seriously... that's all I can say.
6. Tyrokifteria - a spicy cheese spread.

It’s basically a given—thousands of wealthy retirees from the European Union (as the late Šuvar would say) are about to swoop in and buy up all the prime real estate along the coast while we're left struggling to make ends meet.😠
