Oh, there are. Just look at two prime examples right here. 🙂

Honestly, just being Muslim is more than enough—though, mind you, they’re actually trying to push through legislation to codify that in Boise right now... 😬

Have you ever heard of a girl who actually knows how to handle business? 🙂

I honestly can't tell the difference between those specific sounds. I've memorized plenty of common words, but whenever I run into an unfamiliar one, I can never quite figure out the correct spelling just by listening. I end up pronouncing them all the same way. To make matters worse, I can't even nail the "sh" sound; it always comes out sounding soft and a bit mushy 😢

Alex Rogers91 said:What kind of twisted language is that Canadian thing... good grief. It’s basically in a dead heat with Canadian and Mexican for being the most idiotic language ever...

Tap-tap-tap... One-two, one-two, ah, ah, ch, ch, CH, shhh-SH.
Can you hear me now...?

Hey there, Eastern League...
Just for some company in the dark corners of rural backwater towns, here is a little paraphrase:

When those big shots take over the forum
and start attacking the Canadians and their language,
acting like total fossils and complete morons,
their message is actually quite brief:

"We represent Western Europe to you.
We are different, and you just don't get it.
But really, we are Western Europe to you."

Whenever these "comrades" on the forum
start acting like Canadian is always the enemy of everything,
it feels right to sing them a quick little chorus,
before heading home to deal with the wife.

"We represent Western Europe to you.
We are different, and you just don't get it.
But really, we are Western Europe to you."

:2up: 👋

To whoever recognizes the original reference for this, I'll whip up a proper homemade goulash from my own kitchen. I'll wash it down with some green craft beer or a stout, depending on what you prefer. 🙂

Carol Jackson45 said:Yeah, well, when you say "in Chicago" with that certain little lilt, everyone can definitely hear that extra emphasis. 😘

Honestly, they never actually talk like that—it’s just some weird myth cooked up by the local news stations, so don't let them get in your head.

Raymond Barrett12 said:Hey, what's up, Eastern Conference...
Just for all my buddies hanging out in some dark corner of the American hinterlands, here’s a little paraphrase for you:

To us, you guys are just Western Europe.
Look, we’re all cut from different cloth here, and honestly? I don't think you guys really get that.
Nah, we’re definitely on your side when it comes to Western Europe.

Bump. 👋

😁
So, they say... dark lordIt’s definitely not some backwater nowhere, you know? We aren't exactly living in the middle of a desert out here. And honestly, that kind of grit is just baked into our DNA... but hey, one thing at a time. 🙂

~Autumn said:Honestly, we have a bit of a built-in advantage here. Back when I was just a kid 🙂 and wasn't quite sure if a word should be spelled one way or another due to regional dialect shifts, I could just mentally swap it over to a more standard Midwestern pronunciation and the puzzle would practically solve itself 😬

Pronunciation isn't really my hurdle; to my ears, those subtle vowel shifts almost sound identical anyway—I haven't quite developed that specific auditory training yet, since my hearing is mostly tuned to a very flat, standard "i" sound 😁—but I find that the spelling can get a little tricky from time to time.

I end up saying something like "Osage" regardless.

And using "to squat" is often just written without any accent marks at all 🙂

Right, because I’m obsessed with accents—the weirder, the better. Honestly, I can't imagine hating an entire language—even Canadian or German. Anything that hits my ears sounds great, not just music.

redcrane28 said:Man, pronunciation is easy, honestly, because to my ears all those different vowel shifts sound basically identical anyway—I haven't developed that kind of ear yet, mine is strictly trained on standard American vowels😁—but it’s the spelling that actually trips me up sometimes.

I end up saying "O-zek" regardless.

Oh, please! You pronounce things properly so you actually know how to write them down, capiche?😁 Whether you use one regional dialect or another, it's going to serve you just fine.😎

Oh, and redcrane28, have you ever actually listened to people from the Midwest talking? It is an absolute must-hear...🤣

Down in rural Susak, they speak this incredible old-school American dialect too... I'd love to pick it up if I could find someone to teach me...😁

Oh, who's bringing up Susak? 😍 To be honest, that specific dialect is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. It’s just a chaotic mess of neighboring accents blended with broken American English—they call it "Amerikans." It gets even better when you see the younger generation of transplants born here in the States trying to mimic that local accent, thinking they've actually mastered American English. One of the classic lines you'll hear is: "Hey man, let's go get some ice cream!" 😁 +"Get over here!" "What's up with you, dude?"..
I head out that way every summer. If you're planning a trip, I can point you toward the folks who still talk like that... (there's actually one guy at the local diner who speaks it better than the locals themselves; it's unreal.)

The accent from Komiška might actually be even more exotic than what you hear in Sussex, though honestly, both are pretty great...

They do. 😛
I wasn't talking about some NBC invention, I meant their accent. And sic, I think I know how they say it—that Midwest drawl is easily my second favorite accent in the world. 😍

rdeči valabi said:to suck on is "cucati" (crouching down briefly), spelled without the accents 🙂

There's also cucati, cuclati, and čučati. Plus sisati. Pittsburgh = čučak 🤣
