I mean, there’s some really good material here. Have you guys ever actually had the chance to read the original Grimm stories?
Not those romanticized Disneyesque versions or the ones in picture books, but the real deal? You know, the stuff about incest, evil mothers, severed limbs, all that barbarism... man, I'm hoping this movie leans into all that.

of course 👍

those old fairy tales don't really have much to do with the stories we heard as kids. They come from somewhere dark (no, I don't mean 🙄 ) and they flirt with horror, in the way people back then used to understand it.

honestly, those old tales seem almost made for Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam & whoever else

it just reminded me of that Neil Jordan film, Wolf Society (not the other way around), which was such an interesting retelling of Little Red Riding Hood—lots of sex, orgies, wolves 👍 he he

Blade Runner is my absolute god, my cinematic altar🙏. I’m basically a fanatic about it—too much of a purist, really. I don't even dare pull it off the shelf sometimes because I don't want to mess with the vibe... I just close my eyes and imagine that rain falling over fading memories... ("I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, C-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate... all those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain...") — if I remember that right...

Alien is "second to none." Seriously. Another one for the altar.🙏

2001: A Space Odyssey is pure, distilled art. It’s eternal, untouchable, superior... but also cold, you know? It demands respect.

Planet of the Apes—one of the best scripts ever written, probably has the best ending in cinema history. Such a heavy, bitter, slightly sarcastic message. And Charlton Heston? Total legend.👍

God, I just love those first two movies I mentioned.🙂

("I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, C-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate... all those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain...") - at least, that's how I remember it..

...I'm digging this...😢

There’s this grave at Arlington National Cemetery for some young guy, and it has those lines from Blade Runner carved right into it..

Reminds me of:

'All those tears,
are not the rain..'

..wait, didn't I hear that music from Lord ??? somewhere else?

It isn't even raining.
I think I heard that music from Lord ??? somewhere once.

Honestly, I have no clue... I didn't even notice anyone singing during the GP.😁

They’re out there singing their hearts out, just belt it out... while you’re just sitting there acting like you don't care, totally missing the vibe!😁

Gonna read the book first just to get in the right headspace for this movie.
But fair warning... the absolute best characters and scenes aren't even in the film... 😢

Personally, I think the movie is way better.

...yeah, but it's basically just "la la la," then an orchestra kicks in, then more "la la la"... hardly any actual lyrics...😁

You’re right, the movie just kind of "vibes" through it😁 for totally understandable reasons, but I was actually thinking about the soundtrack, the actual music on the CD😉

Anyway, I totally blanked on mentioning The Terminator—bad move on my part to leave it out. That flick is way more than just some techno-robot apocalypse; they nailed the atmosphere perfectly... I love it (and Linda Hamilton, too).🙂

Since we're all talking about books that inspired sci-fi movies, I remember reading this short novel called The Fly way back when (at the local Barnes & Noble😕), and honestly? It’s not just better than the movie, it’s incomparable. A movie is just a movie; you can't really kill it by saying it stands on its own.😉

By the way, I forgot to mention The Terminator—totally unfair of me to leave it out. It’s more than just a techno-robot apocalypse; the atmosphere is spot on... I love it (and Linda Hamilton).🙂
Since we're talking about books that inspired sci-fi films, I remember reading a short novel back in the day (at the local Barnes & Noble😕) called The Fly, and it isn't just better than the movie—it's incomparably better. A movie is just a movie; you can't kill it by calling it "standalone."😉

...see...truth is, I didn't listen to the soundtrack, but even that 'la-la-ing' in the film felt pretty well done...😁
....both Terminators are alright... man, the second one was a total revolution in special effects back in the day... Arnie, Linda Hamilton, the guns... haha, those were the days...😁😁
Haven't seen the third one... and probably won't...😁😁

In the third part, wasn't it that little guy singing? You know, Pippin? The one who isn't exactly the brightest bulb in the box... right?!

Blade Runner. Just one word, but it carries enough weight to sink a battleship. I’ve been sitting here staring at my screen, trying to wrap my head around why people still struggle to grasp the sheer brilliance of this film, and frankly, I'm losing my patience. It isn't just some sci-fi flick you put on in the background while you're scrolling through your phone; it’s a masterpiece of atmosphere and existential dread. I remember watching it for the first time back in college—I was staying up way too late in a cramped dorm room in Chicago, surrounded by empty coffee cups, feeling that exact same sense of urban isolation that Ridley Scott captures so perfectly. That neon-soaked, rain-drenched vision of the future? It hits differently when you're actually feeling lost in the world. People want everything spoon-fed to them now. They want explosions, fast cuts, and constant noise. But Blade Runner demands something else from you. It demands that you sit there, soak in the mood, and contemplate what it actually means to be human. Harrison Ford gives a performance that is understated yet hauntingly grounded, and the visual language... man, it’s unparalleled. It doesn't need to shout to make its point. It whispers, and that whisper stays with you long after the credits roll. If you can't appreciate the slow burn, then you're simply missing the point of cinema.

The Four movies from the Alien series—Alien, Alien 2, and Alien 3—are kind of a letdown for me... To me, the reply was just about some "super woman" trope.
Star Wars, yeah, everyone's in there... literally everyone.
Plus, you've got a young Harrison Ford in the mix, and honestly, neither Anakin Skywalker nor Obi-Wan Kenobi are bad either.
Blade Runner... a total masterpiece (and I'm done mentioning Harrison Ford for now).
The original Planet of the Apes from the fifties (I think it was 1956) is way better than this new garbage they keep making.
The Matrix—but only the first one. The rest? Total trash.

Why are you all attacking poor Spretnic? 🙂Are you actually suggesting that Jurassic Park isn't sci-fi? Do you even know what those words mean?
I don't think anyone ever established that sci-fi has to be about the future, robots, or deep space.
As far as I’m concerned, since nobody has actually managed to "recreate" dinosaurs from recovered DNA, I’d categorize that movie strictly as fiction—meaning it's an invented story, not a realistic or scientific documentary.

Maybe try thinking for a second before being so obnoxious... 😢

Besides the movies already mentioned, there's also Equilibrium.
Very nice, very nice indeed. 😁 😁 😁 😁
