As you guys probably know (or don't...), I’m a total newbie dad here. I have zero experience with babies, but I’m trying my best to get up to speed as fast as possible. I've hit another snag though:

What kind of vitamins are actually recommended for nursing moms? Also, is there a specific multivitamin combo available on the US market designed just for breastfeeding?

Thanks!

It’s honestly so heartwarming to see a new dad getting this invested in the process!!

I actually stuck with Prenatal for a while longer myself—I just had a bunch of those vitamins left over from my own pregnancy

(It really is such a solid, well-rounded mix of vitamins and minerals to supplement a diet during pregnancy or breastfeeding; since it doesn't have excess Vitamin A, you don't have to worry about it causing any issues for the baby. It includes things like beta-carotene, which helps the body synthesize its own Vitamin A and provides antioxidants, plus perfectly balanced chelated iron that won't clash with other minerals, the right amount of folic acid for healthy development, calcium citrate to keep mom's teeth and bones strong, choline to support fetal health, and iodine to keep metabolism on track and prevent thyroid issues)

Plus, I used HIP organic juices and special lactation teas, which were absolute lifesavers for helping boost my milk supply.

I remember one time when I was just chatting with my postpartum nurse about maybe adding some extra supplements to my routine, and she gave me this look and told me straight up, "Forget about it while you're nursing." After she said that, nothing else even crossed my mind!

I'm not sure if your wife is breastfeeding, but if I were you, I'd suggest playing it safe and avoiding extra stuff until the little one grows just a bit more!🙂

Yeah, tell me about it... I'm definitely playing it safe when it comes to picking out supplements.

I’ve been taking Elevit—not sure if they even carry it here in the States—but the label specifically says it's formulated for pregnancy and breastfeeding.👋

I mean, sure, they’ve got all those vitamins specifically for nursing moms over there, but honestly? I’m just going to stick with the prenatal vitamins I’ve already been taking.

Honestly, that’s exactly what I did for the first two months postpartum (plus those six months leading up to it!) and my milk supply stayed totally fine. I definitely noticed a difference after about ten days, too... though my gums have been acting super weird lately...🙄

Honestly, I’m always on some kind of vitamin regimen, so it’s just become my baseline—I can’t even remember the last time I went without taking something, maybe years ago? Even if it's just a basic multivitamin packed with Vitamin C or some other supplement on the side. Especially when you're dealing with the massive stress of pregnancy or breastfeeding; once that exhaustion hits later on, everything just feels depleted, so I figure it's just common sense to supplement. Plus, let’s be real, our food nowadays isn't exactly a nutritional powerhouse anymore since everything feels so processed and artificial, so we basically have to grab those vitamins from somewhere else.

Oh my gosh, Ronald Morales, you honestly gave me such a good laugh reading about how you already went out and grabbed those vitamins....🙂

But hey, just a little thought—you can find plenty of those nutrients in fresh fruits and veggies, so why not just roll up your sleeves every day, grab a spatula, and get cooking? I promise you'll see some amazing reactions: both from the ladies and the little ones!!!😁

Well... let's just say the pharmacists at CVS are practically rubbing their hands together whenever they see me coming.

...time I’m dusting off this old thread...
For those of you currently nursing, what kind of vitamins are you actually taking?
Alright... Look, I know the drill about eating a balanced diet and all that. I get it. But I still feel like I need some actual supplements. During my pregnancy, I was sticking to prenatal vitamins and iron. Should I just keep going with those, or is there something else out there specifically designed for breastfeeding moms?
I have some lactation tea on hand, but I haven't touched it because my supply is already through the roof. If I start drinking that stuff, I’m pretty sure my breasts are going to explode. 🙂

What vitamins are you nursing moms using?
Alright... Look, I know eating healthy is key. I get that. But I still feel like I need actual vitamins. During my pregnancy, I was taking Prenatal and iron. Should I stick with those, or is there a specific supplement made just for breastfeeding?

If you ask me, that lactation tea is mostly useful for helping with baby gas, since most blends are fennel-based.

I kept taking my Prenatal right after giving birth. Now I've switched over to Prenatal, and for a while, I also used an Omega-3 syrup designed for pregnancy, nursing, and kids.

Fine... eat healthy. I get it. But I’d still prefer vitamins. I was taking Prenatal and iron during my pregnancy. Should I stick with those, or is there a specific product designed just for breastfeeding?

I took Prenatal throughout my pregnancy and for the first few months postpartum while breastfeeding.

Hmm... I think I’m leaning towards picking up some Prenatal, mostly because the Omega-3 content seems to be the best part... 🤔
Thanks so much for all the input, everyone.

I've stuck with taking Prenatal and Omega-3 even after giving birth. I've actually struggled with iron deficiency and anemia my whole life—but honestly, once I started these vitamins during pregnancy and through breastfeeding, my iron levels finally stabilized. It feels good knowing my milk is extra nutritious for the baby, too.

I mostly just stick to what I did during my pregnancy... so, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C... Omega-3, iron, and occasionally some Hipp prenatal juice or their juices for nursing moms. I also make sure to use fluoride on my teeth at night. But honestly, it’s mainly about eating homegrown veggies and using olive oil...

I’m still sticking with my Prenatal regimen, though I’ve started supplementing it with some specialized nursing teas and juices from Hipp—they really seem to pack in everything essential for both mom and baby.

I’m still stuck using Prenatal too... I've actually got an entire bottle left over from my pregnancy...
