I won't bother quoting that massive wall of text right now.

The fallout went both ways—everyone was getting called out. It wasn't just about people swooping in without contributing anything useful to the debate and then throwing a tantrum when they didn't get their way.

On the flip side, there was a systematic, repeated violation of rule 6, specifically that second half of the policy.

I stand by my actions—and everything else I’ve said here. Everyone seems to have lost their moral compass. You either want flimsy rules and loose moderation on the Forum, or you demand trust and then immediately fail to maintain a decent level of discourse.

There are higher authorities on this Forum than me—they can certainly reopen this thread if they decide I'm actually the one in the wrong.

Got it.
So what’s the move when the conversation goes off the rails? Just wait until one side starts firing shots, and then lock it once the replies start rolling in?

Anyway, please answer my questions from the first and second-to-last posts.

What happened to the warnings issued to those specific users and regarding those posts?

Thanks!

Look, I know you're flying solo right now, but being the only moderator on duty doesn't excuse how you're handling things.

The gossip thread belongs to certain users who, from what I can see, are still getting by just fine.
It actually matters to me when people on my main boards start calling me a fascist or total trash. And I'm not talking about those random trolls who swoop in, spit on everyone, and leave in a fit of self-righteous rage.
What bugs me even more is seeing how fascist rhetoric and "motherf***er" insults—and everything else that comes with that package—get a free pass.
How long ago was that post reported? 4 hours?
The post is still sitting there without a warning, and nobody has been banned.
clones

Afrikin

The Forum rules say something completely different.

You aren't following the rules of the site you work for. You're just protecting one of your fellow mods. Instead of actually moderating a heated topic, you just swoop in and lock the whole thing down so nobody ends up getting banned.
And you're doing it by nitpicking tiny details. To put it in the language of the people who throw the word "fascist" around so easily—yet you don't react to actual fascism—honestly, aren't you embarrassed?

You know what? That invitation to join the mod team is useless. This is YOUR job, not a charity case. Do your job. If you can't handle it, call another mod for backup. Don't just toss the ball into our court.

My post isn't breaking any rules. Look, we all agreed a long time ago that you can call an idiot an idiot without getting punished, right? So, by that same logic, if users are posting xenophobic or fascist garbage, they should be called out as xenophobes and fascists too. I requested a just and exclusively just because I'm a moderator on another subforum, and I don't want my own posts being scrutinized under a microscope because of how I write.

Nice move. When we run out of arguments, let's just pivot to passive-aggression. 👏

Btw, did you finally ban that Afrikin troll?

That's just how this crew operates. 🤷

What crews are we even talking about? Amelia is an incredible mod—Neru hasn't even hit a heavy topic yet.
If you actually have a problem with the moderation, then maybe stop making it all about personal beef.

So, you're asking what we can actually use to write stuff here? Seriously? Is that really the question? Look, it's pretty straightforward. You just jump in and start typing. No special equipment required, no fancy setup. Just your thoughts and a keyboard. What else would you need?

Besides being a direct answer to my question in the opening post, isn't it also just a blatant violation of the Forum rules?

Thanks!

I can't personally answer those kinds of questions. For anything regarding the CNN threads, you'll need to talk to the moderators for that specific section, the supermoderator—Sabaa, in this instance—or the administrator, who is Miami. Usually, you follow that hierarchy...

The moderators for this specific thread don't handle appeals unless they involve sections under their direct control (which would be Miami, since she oversees the entire forum). Their job is just to moderate so things don't spiral out of hand...

In this space, you can post freely as long as there's no insulting, provoking, trolling, dragging out old arguments from closed threads, or digging up resolved disputes...

As for reporting a moderator, they don't have the technical tools to issue sanctions against one of their own. If a moderator's post warrants action, it falls to the supermoderator or the administrator...

I honestly don't care why you went looking for a ban for yourself.
No, I guess we just can't call fascists fascists anymore? You aren't exactly invited to throw those labels around whenever you feel like someone is a fascist.
Do you go around calling people fascists on a regular basis? Are you really cool with other people talking like that?
Don't try to play the relativity card. You know how the rules work; you're the one who handed out bans on CNN.

And "not targeting anyone specifically"? Give me a break. What, are you too chicken to actually use forum usernames?
Just drop a metaphorical bomb and hope nobody catches it, since technically you didn't "call anyone out," right?
Are you even embarrassed?
You should be.

You edited that pretty fast. Nice work. 🤣
What, you don't have the guts to just leave the post exactly how it was?

But Amelia and Nero were mentioned right 😕here.

Sorry, I don't have the bandwidth to dissect every single comment—I actually have a job to do.

Regarding the bans for the people you mentioned, I can just point you toward links for the users who were defending the opposing side.
My preference is that everyone just cools off without anyone getting banned—but if you're going to insist, fine—I'll go through this thread post by post and hand out penalties accordingly.

It would be nice if everyone could show a little self-awareness so I wouldn't have to waste time combing through this mess. Is asking for basic maturity too much to ask?

Thanks for nothing.
So why the hell is there this public callout for someone to issue a ban when everyone knows a mod can't even pull the trigger on another mod?

@Pringles, can you explain why Klonkin's post hasn't been banned? It originally looked exactly like what Aaron Phillips2 quoted in this post below.

Ever since this thread started, people have been pushing for it, and yet here you are, sounding like a broken record with that "if you insist" routine.

Let me say it one more time: can I just get some actual answers to my questions?

Fine, then why won't you label people as fascists on the politics board?
Honestly, I don't think you even read the thread. You're just jumping in with disconnected comments, or maybe you've confused this with the Politics section. 🤔
radical politics posts were worse coming from Morgan Rodriguez57, which makes this nothing compared to the stuff that regularly appears on the Politics boards.

Of course they can. I didn't just pull that out of thin air; their own posts prove it. Besides, what happened to my right to free speech? Does it just vanish the second I call out a racist or a xenophobe for being exactly that?

Do you actually go around calling people fascists on the street?

I see they’re losing their minds over refugees again. Honestly, they can go ahead and throw their little tantrums—it’s not like I wouldn't call them out on it if I felt like it.

I mean, since when did we start measuring forum discussions by how much they match real life anyway? 😵

Look, I wasn't even being that harsh when I called some user not exactly bright, dumb, or malicious. Since that kind of stuff has been tolerated here for ages, it's already dragged me into it a few times... when in Rome, right? 🤷 And then there's all that twisted stuff comparing people's opinions to concentration camps and Nazism.
I'm totally fine with getting a ban for that, especially in a strictly moderated thread.

Listen, look, I get it—it's summer, everyone's acting crazy, and this topic is basically a powder keg.
I know you're on your own with this and it's tough to come up with a solution.
I don't know... maybe call in the super-mods for backup? Talk to the admins... something. Just anything to stop the discussion from being shut down. Lately, it feels like people are being silenced using that classic, lazy tactic of just shouting "Nazi!" or "Fascist!" instead of actually having an argument.

Oh, please... why don't you go ahead and drop some actual quotes, arguments, definitions, or even just some guidelines you're using to label everyone who disagrees with you as a racist or a xenophobe? Since you haven't actually written anything down to back it up, you're just talking nonsense.

Here’s how you barge in with this:
Now I’m actually feeling bad that this thread got split from the original one, because you can really see the hypocrisy at work here. People are declaring tolerance to be unwanted, while its supporters try to act like they hold some high moral ground (acting like it, anyway, because it’s honestly mind-boggling that anyone could think this way), all while the poor little xenophobes get "offended" when you call them out for being xenophobic and fascist. Yeah, you ARE fascists.

Total nonsense.

And then you hit us with that grand finale:

Pfft, we "super-tolerant" people have already learned how to deal with attempts to stifle reasoned criticism and sell unreasoned, phobic garbage under the guise of free speech. We'll figure out how to handle it.

And apparently, "you're fascists" counts as "reasoned criticism."
Honestly, you might find it a lot more comfortable living in some less democratic country where you can express yourself like that...

restlesshound3 said:The topic was honestly pretty fascinating, and I was actually kind of caught off guard when it got locked. 👎 Either it should have been moderated from the jump, or they just should have let the debate play out.

But even beyond this, I’ve always found the rules and how the mods handle things over in the Women's Corner to be a bit strange. It’s not rare to see someone get sent a private message, or for people to be called complete idiots—even having new users pushed away from a thread—all without a moderator stepping in. (And by the way, this happens even with some of the folks who get labeled as fascists during those heated debates about immigration. 😁 )

Which, of course, lines up perfectly with that supposed "liberalism" and generosity some of these people love to preach about🙄.

I spend a lot of time lurking on CNN, though I rarely bother posting anything myself, but certain debates over there feel less like actual conversation and more like some twisted debate club where the whole point is just to see who can stay in the ring the longest before they collapse.

So, let me get this straight. You're claiming you don't know how to define racism or xenophobia, and instead, you just rely on the assumption that anyone opposing your view must be the opposite of what you think you are—even though you admitted you haven't even made a coherent point yet. But apparently, your own ignorance doesn't stop you from getting all offended the second someone points out that your posts are straight-up xenophobic and racist?

Man, gilda. This is honestly embarrassing. 😢

I’m just sitting here waiting... Send over the posts, the quotes, whatever you've got. Give me your takes too. I'll pull out anything that looks racist or xenophobic and tag it with my own little commentary. Or if someone's just being a total troll, I'll call them out on that too...
