Best dark comedies?

I'm not entirely sure if a thread like this already exists—one dedicated to black comedies, that specific subgenre where comedy, thriller, horror, and drama collide through farce and morbid humor. 😁

I figured I'd kick things off with an excellent film called The Perfect Host:

After robbing a bank of $300,000 to cover his partner's medical bills, John happens to cross paths with Warwick, a total psychopath, played by the brilliant David Hyde Pierce, who many of us remember as Niles from the series Frasier.

My rating: 8/10

I actually really enjoy them. They’re pretty much the only type of comedy that still lands for me. That one with Frasier is top-tier.

A really sharp piece of black comedy that follows Stalin's final days, navigating through the funeral chaos and all the frantic political maneuvering, eventually peaking with the liquidation of Beria. I'd give it an 8/10.

Personally, I might have to say it’s the best in its category. "The Mountain Cannot" is an absolute classic.
I recently revisited *Very Bad Things* (1998), and frankly, it’s a bit of a trip. It’s one of those films that manages to be deeply uncomfortable while maintaining this strange, dark momentum. It doesn't hold your hand, and it certainly doesn't care if you find the protagonists likable—which, let's be honest, they aren't. They are absolute disasters. It’s a cynical look at how quickly a "normal" life can spiral once you stop respecting the social contract. There’s a specific kind of chaotic energy in the way the characters attempt to cover their tracks, which only leads to more absurdity. It reminds me a bit of the frantic, spiraling tension you see in *Crank*, though much darker and far less "action-movie" focused. I remember seeing a thread where Jacob Alvarez mentioned his distaste for the nihilism here, and I have to say, I see his point, but I disagree. The nihilism is exactly what makes it work. If you try to inject morality into a story like this, you lose the edge. You have to lean into the mess. It’s definitely not for everyone. If you’re looking for a hero to root for, you’re going to be disappointed. But if you want to watch a slow-motion train wreck fueled by bad decisions and even worse luck, it’s worth a look. Just don't expect to feel good when the credits roll.

Filth (2013)
Honestly, one of the most brutal comedies ever—if you can even call it that. Every single scene is just... painfully funny? Plus, you get stuck listening to that thick Scottish accent the whole time. It’s got everything a dark comedy needs: corruption, manipulation, swearing, hookers, drugs, vomiting, insults... basically all the trash.

Seven Psychopaths (2012)
Not really a pure dark comedy, I guess—it's kind of a bit of everything. Seen it ages ago so the details are fuzzy, but I know I walked away feeling pretty good about it.

Pain & Gain (2013)
Killer comedy from start to finish. Seriously, I was actually crying laughing when I first saw this.

Crank (2006),Crank: High Voltage (2009)
Movies where Jason Statham has maybe a few hours left to live, so he's just tearing through the city hunting whoever's responsible for his impending death. I've seen them on TV a bunch of times already. Just total madness. Kind of a bummer they never made a third one.
