Need help with my webcam

Hey everyone!
Just a quick heads-up—tech stuff and all this computer gear isn't exactly my specialty. 😁 I was looking for a decent webcam for my laptop (mostly so I can hop on Zoom calls without looking like a total mess), and well, before I actually pulled the trigger on buying one, I was borrowing a camera from a friend... and honestly, hers works way better than mine.
Here’s the deal: with my current setup, I have to push my laptop incredibly far away just to get my shoulders in the frame instead of just my face. The view is pretty terrible; it’s basically just a tight shot of my face—I don't even get my whole head in there 🤦
The funny thing is, with my friend's camera, I could just keep the laptop right in my lap and still have a perfectly normal view of myself.
Is it just how this specific camera is built, or did I accidentally mess with some settings? (I'm desperately hoping I somehow managed to zoom in too much, haha). Or am I stuck with no choice but to go out and buy a new one? 🤔

You basically answered your own question. Either the camera is acting up, or you messed with the zoom settings somewhere. Did you zoom in or not? That’s not really our business—it’s yours. So, let's be real: did you hit the zoom button?

Look, if you’re really that unhappy with the camera, just return it and grab something else. It's not rocket science. But if you do decide to go shopping again, please, for the love of God, don't just pick the cheapest option on the shelf. You saw how this played out.

Yeah, you should be able to return this thing without any drama. Under US consumer laws, you’ve got that window where you can just send it back within a certain timeframe without having to jump through hoops. You don't even need a fancy excuse. If they ask, just tell them, "It's not really my vibe," or "I'm just not feeling it." Simple as that.

Next time you ask "is my camera like this?", just throw the model name in there too. Either that, or just tell me upfront—maybe you already mentioned it and I completely missed it.

My old Microsoft camera actually had a zoom feature—you just twist the lens to get up to 4x 😁

At least that's how mine worked...

I've got this built-in webcam on my Dell Inspiron, and honestly, everything was working just fine until yesterday when out of nowhere the video decided to flip upside down—yeah, my head is basically at the bottom of the screen now. Does anyone know how to fix this mess?

What kind of laptop are you using? Which OS are you running, and what app are you using to view the video?

So, I’m sitting here with this Dell Inspiron laptop—it’s got a built-in camera and everything—but I am hitting a massive wall because I can't get the damn thing to actually open anywhere! There isn't even an icon to click on... nothing. The weird part? The camera itself clearly works because when I jump on a Zoom call, the video looks totally fine and everything is running smoothly. I've tried downloading all sorts of different software—I even scoured the official Dell support pages—but every single time I try to launch a camera app, I just get stuck staring at a black screen. It's infuriating... there's this little indicator light right next to the lens that’s supposed to glow when the camera is active, right? Well, that light pops on perfectly fine when I'm using Zoom, but the second I try to open any other program, it stays dark. Total silence. I’m not exactly some tech wizard or anything, but I have a feeling it might be a driver issue since it functions just fine in Zoom... but then why won't it work anywhere else?! Anyway, if anyone knows what's going on, please help me out. 😁
