Basically, the last X-Men had some small but solid Sci-Fi bits, and then you've got Guardians of the Galaxy as decent popcorn flicks, and that's about it.

I actually found Guardians of the Galaxy really cool; the movie is such a blast. As for X-Men, it felt a bit overwhelming to me—I'm honestly not even sure if I finished watching it on my small TV screen. But looking back at the cinema over the last few years, we've seen some truly brilliant Sci-Fi. There was World War Z, Oblivion, Gravity, Interstellar, Edge of Tomorrow, Mad Max, and The Martian; there were quite a few. And that's not even counting the teen flicks that try to wrap themselves in Sci-Fi, like Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, and Divergent. Honestly, I love that they've started making films featuring heroines who actually swing swords, fire arrows, handle rifles, and use weapons in general. Or women who can actually hold their own in a fight—you know, seeing what a real woman looks like rather than just some delicate little thing. Lately, the male actors seem to be able to compete with these women, and those kinds of movies can get really irritating.

Right now, I’m looking to watch a few more films specifically because they feature strong female leads: things like Zachariah, Momentum, and Vice. All I'm missing to make a solid comparison of the lead actresses' performances are Convergent and The Hunger Games... If you have any other ideas for Sci-Fi movies that would fit well into that lineup, please feel free to suggest them! 😉

Most stuff out there is trash anyway, but if more Sci-Fi movies get made, more good Sci-Fi movies will follow. The Martian is finally one good hard Sci-Fi film.

Hold on, how does The Martian have nothing to do with reality? The movie shows a possible future. The mission to Mars in that film is based on the Mars Semi-Direct mission architecture, which is currently the standard plan for sending humans to Mars.

Honestly though, I'm pretty stoked with how much high-quality Sci-Fi we've been getting lately.☕
