Rhinoplasty: Experiences and recovery tips?

Hi everyone. I’ve been scrolling through almost all of these threads, and seeing how varied everyone's experiences are, I wanted to reach out and ask for some advice. So, here’s my situation: I have a deviated septum and have an operation scheduled on my rib with Dr. Jurlin. Now, from what I understand, some hospital surgeons tend to go the extra mile for their patients and will touch up the aesthetics of the nose as much as possible, while others simply refuse to do it. Has anyone here actually worked with Dr. Jurlin? Would he be open to improving the appearance of my nose if I requested it, or is that something he turns down? If he isn't the type, I've been considering Dr. Davor Džepina as an alternative to handle everything through a private practice. I don't know why, but I have this lingering anxiety about private clinics, even though everything I've read about him on this forum has been glowing. If things go that way, I might actually find the courage to 🙂

I’m a new member here. About five years ago, I underwent an ENT rhinoseptoplasty performed by a certain doctor—basically, they worked on both the internal and external structures. Since I couldn't breathe properly, I figured it made sense to address the external side as well. Well, I don't even need to tell you how crooked my nose turned out, despite him being supposedly highly regarded. It feels like these surgeons treat patients more like products on an assembly line rather than actual human beings with health concerns. After seeing the results, he actually had the nerve to suggest a revision, which I firmly declined. Over the years, the shape has just gotten worse, developing this noticeable indentation. I went to see an ENT specialist today, and she recommended that if I go through with another surgery, I should see V. Bedeković (she also mentioned Glumičić), because she’s seen his work firsthand and knows the results are excellent, having assisted him for a few years.
Now, since going under the knife again isn't exactly a small decision for me, I joined this forum hoping someone might have some information or perhaps direct experiences with specific surgeons. Is there anyone I should look into, or is there really no standard way to choose?
I would truly be grateful for any kind of response. I'm just completely lost right now.

Hmm... I actually went to see a specialist at a hospital outside of Washington, D.C. a few years back, and it was an absolute disaster. I suppose it’s incredibly important when you're picking a doctor to make sure they actually know how to handle open rhinoplasty techniques, not just the closed ones. In my experience—though I realize this isn't a universal rule—the more aesthetic procedures they've performed, the better the chances they'll nail this kind of surgery too.

Hey, does anyone know if there are any discounts or special programs out there for people around 18—you know, regarding health insurance or those kinds of setups? I'm really hoping to get some work done next summer to fix my nose

Basically, I could probably set aside maybe $800 or $900 for this!

And hey, can I post a photo of my nose so you guys can judge how much of a challenge it would be for surgeons to give me that cute, little button nose I'm dreaming of? 🙂

Uh... yeah, you're gonna need to work two summers because nothing goes for under $1,600, regardless of how easy the job is or what kind of nose you're dreaming of. Honestly, the harder the surgery, the more it costs—prices usually land somewhere between $1,600 and $2,300 depending on which surgeon you go with. But basically? Expect to shell out about $2,200.😉

It’s definitely Glumičić. I’d steer clear of Bedeković if I were you.

My first experience with Bedeković was okay, but Uglešić actually did a top-notch job fixing things.👎 Honestly, things are still a mess. I'm currently getting ready to see Glumičić.

I had surgery with Glumičić, and honestly, it was a total nightmare.

I dealt with a deviated septum that triggered some brutal chronic sinus inflammation. My left maxillary sinus was completely blocked, making even the slightest physical activity a massive struggle. I went to see Dr. John Smith to get my sinuses sorted out first. They used a method where they insert a needle into the affected sinus to rinse it out and inject medication. Even though we initially agreed on four treatments ($400), it actually took six before I could go in for surgery—but I didn't have to pay a dime extra. The actual septoplasty happened a month later ($1,200): I had the surgery in the evening, the packing was removed the next day, and I went in for four follow-up appointments over the next ten days (since I'm from West Virginia, the drive wasn't too bad). Since then, it's just routine check-ups about every two months. At one point, a polyp actually popped back up in that same painful sinus. Honestly, I was terrified I'd need another surgery, but my fear was totally unfounded: Dr. John Smith managed to pull out a huge 2.5 x 2.5 cm polyp easily, without any additional surgery or pain.

After everything, I feel like a whole new person. I’m functioning normally again. Every morning and evening (though I avoid early mornings now that the weather has turned cold), I just rinse my nasal passages with saline or sea water, and that's it. No pills, no antibiotics, no nasal drops—nothing I've been relying on for years.

By the way, Dr. John Smith was always incredibly accommodating with my follow-up times—afternoons, evenings, Sundays—basically whenever worked for me. And I should mention, he didn't charge me for a single follow-up appointment after the surgery (there were about ten in total)...

From what I understand, it’s pretty standard here—surgeons don't typically charge for those follow-up visits after the actual procedure. You basically just pay for the initial consultation and the surgery itself.

I guess Bedekovic did an amazing job for me. It’s been 8 years and I’m still totally happy with it. My nose looks completely natural—not like those obvious ones you see from an airplane that most Glumicicev patients have. My brother also went to Vinogradski and saw Bedekovic, and he’s just as satisfied. So, I really only have praise and recommendations to give.

Can someone explain mucotomy a bit more?

Yeah, sure... whatever you say. Everything is "individual" because every single case is supposedly unique and special!
Maybe it's better if I stop overthinking this whole thing,😕 and just make a decision and go for it!
