BF3 needs a quad-core processor to handle better detail levels.

Your CPU is too weak for anything more powerful than that GPU.

To check the power supply, just grab a screwdriver, unscrew the side panel of your case, pop it off, and read the label on the PSU. It’ll list everything from the brand to the wattage. A power supply is just a metal box.

Hey, would a GTS 450 actually work in this setup?

The one I suggested is actually quite a bit cheaper than the GTS 450, even though the performance is nearly identical. A budget GTS 450 with 512 MB of GDDR5 will run you north of $233, while the HD 6750 stays under $200. Do the math and decide which one makes more sense for your wallet.
Anyway, stop opening new threads and spamming the same question everywhere. There's already a dedicated megathread for graphics cards. If you keep this up, expect the moderator to wipe your posts and probably ban you.

Nathan Reyes59 said:That processor is definitely underpowered. Plus, you didn't mention what kind of power supply you're running, or even what monitor you have or what resolution you play at. And honestly, you could have asked this question in other subforums too—maybe the sex and erotica section? Why only stick to half the topics here?

That basically means you probably should have read the subforum rules before posting. 🙄

My current setup is running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400 at 2.21GHz, paired with a 460W power supply, 3GB of DDR2 RAM, and a prehistoric GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 with just 128MB of VRAM.

Look, I’m going to say this one more time—open a dedicated thread for that GPU of yours or you’re getting banned. We already moved all your posts here to keep things organized, yet you’re still out here doing your own thing—honestly, which part of what we've told you so far just didn't click?

You aren't some mysterious hacker, you're just one of those Teletubbies, a total script kiddie.

I need some help here. A dedicated chat thread would be great; looks like you guys are running out of things to talk about.

OT: Just grab that HD6750 512MB DDR5 I linked for you yesterday. Anything stronger than that is a waste of time because your CPU is too weak to actually use the extra power, and you'd just be paying for headroom you won't touch. Besides, for only $300 more, you could get an HD6770 which is slightly better, but it's $100 pricier—so basically throwing money away... As for that 460W power supply, it's probably a cheap off-brand, but let's hope it holds up.

Yo, I’m stuck. I can't decide which one to grab—the 6670, 6750, or the 6770. I haven't really looked into the NVIDIA side of things yet, just trying to stay under about 700 bucks$267.

My current PC build
: AMD Athlon 64 5200 2.7GHz Dual core
Gigabyte GA-m61pme-s2 2
2GB DDR2 800
4650 1GB
400W MSI ky400atxp

I usually play at 1280x1024 resolution. My goal is to run Battlefield 3 on low or maybe medium settings—honestly, I don't care as long as I can hit around 40fps. But here's the thing: I'm totally unsure which GPU to pick because my CPU is kind of a joke. I don't want to drop cash on something like a 6770 if the processor is just gonna bottleneck the hell out of it and make it useless.

Thanks!

It’s not like there’s some massive, earth-shattering gap between those cards—just grab the 6770.

So, I've been rocking an ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2, but it's finally time for an upgrade. I built a new PC about a month and a half ago, but I didn't have the cash for a decent GPU back then, so I skipped it. Now that I've saved up some money, I'm looking to grab a new card and could use some help. Check Newegg or Micro Center.

My current PC build:

CPU-AMD Phenom II X4 3.6 GHz with ASUS 990FX Motherboard
Motherboard-ASRock 990FX Extreme3
RAM-DDR3 1600 (4 GB)
HDD-WD Caviar Blue 500 GB
Case-Thermaltake Commander MS-I
PSU-Microsoft 550W
GPU-ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2

Listed some extra stuff that doesn't really matter.
I've got about $500 (max. $567) maybe $40-$17 whatever.
Not sure if ATI or NVIDIA is better.
Personally, I feel like ATI is the way to go.

I’m honestly surprised your computer is even running; you’ve got a junk power supply that can barely support this PC, specifically because of this:

http://diskont24.com/product.php?pro...cat=390&page=5

http://diskont24.com/product.php?pro...cat=395&page=1

EDIT: Why do you think they'd offer a 500W unit for $60 or $150? 😁

Those Microsoft power supplies are probably meant for basic office PCs or maybe an AMD Llano build. Honestly, even for low-end stuff, LC Power and Chicony are probably a bit better. A brand like Silverstone offers way more efficiency and more connectors, and they can likely deliver more than the rated 500W—whereas that Microsoft one might only hit 350W. If it actually hits its limit, I guess that Microsoft unit won't just shut down; there's a good chance it'll just fry and take another component with it since it lacks protections (like what Silverstone has).

Thanks. But I don't get it—my power supply is 550W, so why would this 500W one be any better? BTW thanks.

I'm facing a dilemma, possibly a triple threat:
I currently have an ATI Radeon HD 3870, but the cooling has completely failed. It's idling at around 70°C, and as soon as I fire up anything demanding, temperatures spike past 90°C before my monitor just goes into sleep mode...
The question is:
1) Should I buy passive cooling, specifically the Accelero S1 VGA, and/or just strap an extra fan onto the card to blow air over it?
2) Should I just buy a new GPU? I'm not sure which one yet, and I don't want to spend more than about $233, so please send recommendations.
3) Or is there a third option?

PC build:
PSU: A 400W Chieftec.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 @ 2.66GHz
RAM: 4 GB 1333MHz
Current GPU: ATI Radeon HD 3870 (512 MB)
Resolution: 1920x1080

Seems like a decent fit for the CPU and power supply 🙂
