Concert etiquette: What's your biggest pet peeve?

So, what’s your actual move when you’re at a show? 🙂

Are you just lurking in the back, nursing a lukewarm Bud Light and trying to mentally count the syncopated beats? Or are you one of those people losing their minds in the front row, jumping around like a caffeinated toddler? Maybe you’re just sitting there? 😲

Honestly, I just cannot wrap my head around the crowd of people who spend two straight hours staring through a smartphone screen. 😵 You drop a massive chunk of cash on a ticket to see your favorite band, and instead of actually feeling the music, you spend the whole night wrestling with memory cards, squinting at tiny screens to find the "perfect shot," and basically babysitting a piece of glass. For what? So you can post a handful of shaky, blurry, out-of-focus clips to YouTube? It’s just ridiculous. 🤷

I don't exactly go to concerts to sit down—unless we're talking about an opera house or something similar, I suppose.
For me, it’s supposed to be a two or three-hour escape; there is simply no way I’m spending half the set wrestling with phone settings or camera focus, or wandering off to the restroom, or getting caught up in some ridiculous social media trend. 🙄
I’m old school: total immersion, no holding back—hands in the air, maybe a lighter if I can sneak one in, sitting on my partner's shoulders, working up a sweat, dancing my heart out, and singing along at the top of my lungs!!!! 🙂 🙂

I don't really drink at all, mostly because I just want to actually hear the music. I’m not the type to jump around like a maniac, though I will dance and wave my arms if the vibe is truly incredible—like at a David Byrne or The Killers show, though honestly, those moments are pretty rare. It seems like whenever you're bracing yourself for a total rager, it ends up being just mediocre (Arctic Monkeys), or everything is technically fine but there’s just no chemistry (mus), and the crowd 😁. I should probably mention a few other shows where the atmosphere was either good or even amazing—Springsteen, U2 (regardless of what the critics say), Amadou & Mariam (we were dancing like crazy at that one), Sergent Garcia, Orchestra baobab (same thing), Darko Rundek (no comment needed here), Moby, Franz Ferdinand... basically, upbeat rhythms are huge for the energy, especially at outdoor festivals. That’s why you don't see acts like Lisa Gerrard, Fever Ray, or Antony & The Johnsons playing those kinds of gigs; instead, it's the "happier" bands meant for hands in the air. I really hope Lipsi plays into that vibe rather than pulling some silly stunt, like Cave did two years ago, or maybe Dylan. I honestly can't decide who was more pathetic: the one who just can't do it anymore, or the one forcing a style that clearly isn't theirs. But oh well... there will always be disappointments and triumphs. As long as there are triumphs, I can occasionally stomach a bad concert.

When I’m flying solo, I tend to just hang back on the sidelines and soak it all in. But man, if I’m out with the crew and the concert is actually rocking? Then I am all in—jumping around, screaming the lyrics, clapping like crazy, and shredding on my air guitar while hammering away at the air drums.

Honestly, it just depends on how wasted or high I am, but either way, I always keep things classy....I'm having a blast regardless 😁
