LOL
Yeah, facts—now I’m sitting here remembering how I used to sing like a soul without a mind XD
My friends caught up with me back then, so I basically had to force myself to be a little more social 😳 which is why I didn't really get to experience it properly :/

And last time, I was actually the one correcting someone else about the mezzanine seating, and they probably thought, "Who is this clown?" :S

So what wasn't there?
Karmacoma!

😳
🙈

The crowd was mediocre at best.😳

Splitting the atom is great, but live? It’s weird.😁

Everything else for the fifth gods was more or less... ☕ 😁

I listened to Gustafe from a distance with one ear out, and they didn't even play the hits.🤷 WTF?
Martin Topley-Bell was humming nicely around 6, and then they played Karmacoma.😁

Didn't watch The Flaming Lips at all.
I see comments about them. Dragaš is obsessed... "best concert ever" and all that. I heard that Flaming Lips guy... he was talking total nonsense. Whatever.🤷 I don't really listen to them. Ignore.😁

There’s an anecdote about getting into the festival itself, but that’s a story for another time.😍

Oh, come on, things will definitely look up soon! 👍

I mean, sure, the vibe wasn't exactly "stoner paradise" like it usually is at Madison Square Garden—definitely not that same hazy energy—but honestly, I didn't feel like I was missing out at all... except maybe for the fact that the whole thing felt way too short!

The Broken social scene has some really solid gay indie acts, though they definitely have a tendency to overplay their sets. Especially that little bass geek 😁. Caribou was absolutely incredible, though. NYPC had a great disco vibe—solid sound, definitely got people moving. Skindred? Total garbage. As for The Flaming Lips, they’re way too pretentious; I can't stand when that hippie stench starts wafting off crowds like that. Their visuals and production were cool, though... some nice little details there. I skipped the drunk Irish guys... decided to treat myself to Massivan instead. They absolutely demolished the crowd—the sound was so heavy it practically rearranged my internal organs (which is more than I can say for any of the other gigs at this festival). And yeah, just further proof that Vince Foster is basically a god walking among us. I'm already looking forward to seeing them in Italy and Austria, hopefully in even better form.

Well, I moved forward.
Some idiots were around with their terrible "jokes." Absolute morons.
Some high-strung PTSD "rocker" who wouldn't stop swearing because the band was running late.
Some weird women are just high-strung.
Just a bunch of guys fighting amongst themselves.
People sitting around, trying to explain to one another who these Massive Attack guys actually are. 🤷

The crowd was absolutely lifeless. 😁
Massivan brought the energy, and once they did, the crowd just lost it—hands up, pure chaos. The sound was solid, but honestly, it was way too aggressive during those song climaxes. Over the top. Mostly great, though. 😁

Honestly, having the kids' stage tucked away so far back was a blessing; you could practically ignore the noise and actually focus on the music without the chaos.

lineup:
caribou **************
flaming lips ********😍😍😍
!!! *****
lcd ss ***
caught a bit of nypc, sounded great
bss too

if I’d had even a single beer in my hand, this would have been the best weekend of my life.

Some weirdly tense women, too.
And people just bickering with each other.
Or crowds just standing around explaining to one another who the hell Masivac is.🤷

The crowd energy was pretty underwhelming at first.😁
But once Masivac really cranked up the vibe, the mob finally woke up—hands in the air, going wild. Sound was solid, though maybe a bit much during those massive song climaxes. Overall, pretty killer. 😁

that’s why I stayed out on the pavement😁 — the sound is perfect and you don't have people breathing down your neck. It's not like these people are prone to losing their minds anyway; you just get lost in the music with that kind of production.
But look, you aren't there for the mosh pit, you're there for the band, so my advice? Next time, just dive into the thick of it and stop worrying about getting bumped.😉

Yesterday was honestly such a vibe. 😳

Dubioza was great, though I felt a little out of the loop since I don't really know their stuff that well.

Molly—well, you know how it is, kind of like taking a leak in the ocean; you just know it’s gonna be fine, even if you accidentally end up right in the middle of everyone's path. 😳

Lipsi was a total surprise discovery. 😍

The Kobasica bun with mustard hit the spot, too. 😳

Rocked some recycled bracelets.

Managed to squeeze in about five minutes of much-needed social interaction. +

Cleaned my sneakers with a minimal amount of spit and some napkins, so they're actually wearable again today. +

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it went, I guess.

😠
Every single time I hit up a festival, I end up surrounded by crowds like that—it’s actually one of the reasons I’m starting to get a bit tired of these massive music fests lately! 😠

And hey, my buddy actually posted a status last night saying how great the Masivac crew was, while also warning us to watch out for Dragašev's usual nonsense if things go south... 🤣
Honestly, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could just stop bringing him up?

My "bands I might actually see soon" playlist has basically been cut in half at this point! :/

LCD Soundsystem tweet said:dear America: stop being so awesome. we have to head home soon.

Not gonna repeat everything from the earlier threads, but man, the lineup on this final day was absolute fire,
I just gotta shout out Skindred though—they were easily my biggest surprise of the whole weekend!
Too bad I only caught the last few songs they played,
but honestly, huge props to everyone, it was an incredible time.

Dammit, I'll know when I'm finally grown up enough to start listening to New Young Pony Club and Tyler Howard46😁...

With all due respect, the show at the Madison Square Garden venue was practically over, and if The Flaming Lips want to take those visions—fueled by looping Pink Floyd in Pompeii all night long while they sleep—and manifest them somewhere else, then fine.
It. Was. Terrible.

Just your run-of-the-mill, "plugged-in" indie hippie nonsense meant for some choir or orchestra. 🤮

image

Do I really need to describe the gestures I was making when he started shouting about "energizing your fingertips and shooting the energy into space"?

🤦

Meanwhile in Finland:
image

New Young Pony Club were actually high-energy, upbeat, and danceable—they’ve got three ladies in the band (the drummer, the keyboardist 😉 and the vocalist), a bassist who works with the Guild (Ntx was particularly stoked on the sound, even if it sounded way too cluttered to my ears), and a guitarist whose hair dictates he almost certainly has to be named Geoffrey or Basil. 😁 It was actually interesting, in a cheeky sort of way.

image

And then, we were hit with a dose of pure depression and bass so heavy it makes your clothes shake.

Massive Attack in its festivals Best. Period.

They were one great band back when they played Lollapalooza, but they're probably a bit too sophisticated for your taste...😁

I've been into Radiohead since they were just kids starting out...😳
