Let’s just set Lollapalooza aside for a moment and look at Coachella compared to previous years. When you consider names like Alice in Chains, Massive Attack, Tricky, Editors, Morcheeba, and Pendulum—not to mention the others—versus this year’s lineup with Jamiroquai as the headliner? It feels underwhelming.
I love Arcade Fire, and I’m a fan of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, so that doesn't change much for me, though I wouldn't miss them if I had the chance to see them live. I also like TV on the Radio, but honestly, I could catch those first two at Lollapalooza along with a whole bunch of even better bands. I know I brought Lollapalooza back into the conversation at the end there, but I really needed it for the comparison. Anyway, it doesn't matter; you aren't going to change my mind about Coachella falling short, and I'm not going to change yours regarding how fun these bands are...

Megan Miller31 said:I’m honestly starting to think about just selling my ticket and heading to Lollapalooza this year—Coachella has been such a letdown so far.

Look, Coachella and Lollapalooza aren't boxers, they're music festivals!
And hey, I don't mind people bragging about going to Lollapalooza, but I can't help noticing how last year everyone was complaining that the lineup was way worse than previous years and asking, "Who even is The Flaming Lips?" and all that.
As for Jamiroquai—look, I'm not a huge fan either—but we had Billy Idol headlining one of the nights last year, so I really don't see this as being a step backward. Honestly, if there isn't anything else catching my eye, I might actually check this set out! Last year, instead of seeing Billy Idol, I ended up seeing Pendulum, and let me tell you, they weren't my cup of tea either!
😬 🤷

Of course, that's what happens when you don't have a clue who played last year. Maybe do a little digging on Editors and Tricky... besides, the lineup isn't even finalized yet, so comparing them right now is pointless.
You should definitely head to Lollapalooza; you'll hear plenty of stuff there, but don't try to compare Lollapalooza to Coachella because they're just different tiers of festivals. On one hand, it's good that they compete, but it's equally silly to expect them to have the exact same lineup. So, if Lollapalooza is your pick, have a blast!

Wait, are you asking about Editors and Tricky? I’ve actually seen both of them live, so what specifically are you wondering about? 😕
I know they weren't on the lineup last year, but I was just listing performers from previous years as they came to mind—it wasn't strictly limited to 2010.
And honestly, I don't see why people would treat Lollapalooza and Coachella as if they belong in different leagues. Of course I'm going to compare them... let's be real, isn't that exactly what the crowd does? I'm not saying that just because everyone else compares them, I have to follow suit, but it's just the natural way things work, and they'll always be measured against each other.

You mentioned they were there last year. And yeah... if you look at all the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival editions globally compared to those 200 performers and 15 headliners from last year—they really dropped the ball this time with just these four☕
Well, feel free to compare them if you want... they're basically identical. I mean, sure, one lasts two days while the other goes for four, and the budget differences are practically nonexistent. It's not like Lollapalooza is twice as old with 18 different stages and maybe two or three times the lineup and double the daily crowd size... so yeah, you're totally right, they are completely comparable👍

If I may weigh in—I don't think they missed the mark with Arcade Fire, though Grinderman feels more suited for a side stage than the main one. TV on the Radio is still decent enough given last year's roster, but Jamiroquai? That’s just silly—certainly not headliner material, in my opinion. It's underwhelming.

well, feel free to compare them... they're basically the same thing... I mean, one lasts two days while the other lasts four, and the budget differences are negligible. It's not like Lollapalooza is twice as old with 18 different stages and maybe two or three times more performers and double the daily attendance... so sure, you're totally right, they're completely comparable👍

I was referring to previous years in the plural sense, meaning all the years Coachella has been running🙂
Are you saying you've never actually compared the two festivals? I don't know what kind of budgets they're working with, though I'd assume Lollapalooza has more to work with. But regardless, the point is that even with a "meager" budget compared to Lollapalooza, Coachella brought in huge names in previous years, so they can do it this year too. Sure, Arcade Fire won a Grammy and all that, and they're an incredible band, but compared to, say, Alice in Chains last year, they don't quite hit the same level🤷
I love both bands and I'm not comparing them musically, I just think they would have had to pay significantly more for Alice in Chains than they did for Arcade Fire this year, for example
Besides, if my memory serves me right, we usually knew quite a few performers by this time in previous years, yet now we only know four. I can't predict the future; maybe they'll surprise me, or maybe they're saving the best for last, but based on how things stand right now, I'm not feeling very satisfied...

I have to admit, I somehow managed to completely overlook the political side of things during those early Lollapalooza years.

Talk about a total disaster—a complete and utter double self-goal! Honestly, I can’t even begin to wrap my head around how someone manages to mess up that badly. It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion, where you know exactly what’s coming, yet you just can't look away—it’s absolutely surreal! I was sitting there, thinking everything was going according to plan, and then—BAM—total chaos. It reminds me of that one time I tried to fix my own kitchen sink back in Chicago; I thought I had everything under control, but one wrong turn with the wrench and suddenly I'm wading through a literal indoor lake. Just... wow. Total meltdown. 🙏 🙏 🙏

Since when was the Grammy even considered a real metric for quality anyway? — I mean, honestly! — It feels like we’ve reached this point where people act like if you didn't get that gold trophy, you basically didn't exist in the industry. It’s such a funny thing to think about—how much weight we put on these awards ceremonies! I remember back in the day, my older brother used to obsess over those shows, acting like the nominees were the only artists worth listening to, but let's be real... sometimes it feels more like a popularity contest or just whatever the big labels decide to push that year. It’s definitely not the ultimate stamp of greatness!
I honestly can't stand Arcade Fire—just, ugh, forget it!

Wow, the hate directed at Daft Punk is unreal. Well, I guess that just means more room for me and my epileptic dancing🙂

Exactly. Honestly, they might as well just toss the Grammy in the trash. I mean, what’s even the point of those awards when you have so many people calling themselves music experts nowadays... 🤮
