Mastodon released 🙂

I mean, I don't really follow the scene much, but I suppose it’s probably a step up from those endless waves of obscure indie bands you hear about every other week...

I’m honestly speechless... I really thought they had given up on the metal crowd entirely. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against the genre, but I feel like metalheads rarely vibe with even 5% of what Coachella puts on (even if they end up loving this lineup). They always seem to be hovering on the outskirts of the crowd, so in my opinion, throwing a few metal acts into the mix like they did a couple of years ago just feels forced. I think Coachella should focus more on defining its own specific musical identity. If you want to cater to the metal fans, why not just give them a legitimate, dedicated metal festival where they can actually enjoy themselves?

Morgan Palmer2 said:With four headliners already announced—including one that’s supposedly costing a fortune—it just doesn't seem realistic that they'll squeeze in QOTSA for us. Maybe once the city actually steps up with some funding instead of choking the organizers with endless permits or charging $350 just to use a field, we'll see something like that happen. $0.00...

Which four headliners are we talking about? I was under the impression it was just Arcade Fire and Jamiroquai so far. 🤷

MASTODON 👋 👋 👋 is going to be an awesome festival this year. So far, the only thing giving me heartburn is the ticket prices, but everything else looks solid.

It's Arcade Fire, Grinderman, Jamiroquai, and Cypress Hill.

Actually, no. The official site lists Arcade Fire, CH, and Jamiroquai. Grinderman isn't on there. Though, if you ask me, Cypress Hill doesn't really deserve a headlining slot, but whatever.☕

Dear Mastodon 😲 I really must confess, I never quite anticipated that Coachella would be capable of evolving into something quite like 🤔

Look... they definitely are. You're a little late to the party on this one. Even if the official site hasn't explicitly labeled Grinderman as a headliner yet, every other news outlet out there is calling them as such. Plus, just take a look at the lineup layout: the first four acts are all set in a much larger font, and Grinderman is right there among them. Of course, it's always possible Coachella might shake things up and change the hierarchy if they manage to book an even bigger name at the last minute.

Dear Mastodon... 😁

And that other stuff left over from last year's AIC promo pack.

We usually just kind of hang out on the outskirts, so adding metal to the schedule like they did a couple of years ago feels a bit pointless to me. I guess I just think Coachella should stick to its musical identity, and maybe let the metal fans have their own decent festival where they can actually enjoy themselves.

So, I'm a metalhead myself, and this is actually my second year going. It doesn't really matter to me whether there are specific metal bands on the bill or not. Metal fans don't just show up for the heavy stuff; we go for good music in general. Plus, having a dedicated stage like that always ends up being a good move—it’s never going to be empty.

Honestly, this is just too good. For anyone who missed out or hasn't even heard their name before—do yourselves a favor and spin their latest album, "Crack the Sky." It’ll probably win you over in no time. 🙂

No—they haven't even played in the States yet. This is their first time.

As far as I recall, they played here back in 2003 at the local swamp festival alongside High on Fire.

I don't usually dive into progressive metal, but those guys are actually pretty great.

I’m definitely into heavier sounds, though I think we might have different ideas of what "heavy" actually means. I wouldn't call myself a metalhead, but hey, why not? I'll give them a listen. Any specific recommendations so I don't accidentally jump straight into something that isn't my vibe?😍
