Morgan Palmer2 said:I dig heavy sounds, but right now... maybe our definitions of "heavy" just don't align. I'm not exactly a metalhead—though I suppose I could be—so why not? I'll give it a listen. Any specific tracks you'd suggest starting with, so I don't waste my time on something that misses the mark? 😍

The whole album feels pretty uniform to me—maybe Oblivion, Ghost of Karelia, and The Last Baron stand out slightly. If you want to ease into it, try the instrumental versions of Oblivion and Divinations.

jbt Mastodon 👋

edit: It’s definitely going to overlap with something else I’ll want to hear—like Arcade Fire—because honestly, who on earth listens to both at the same time? 😳 :|

No, I checked that immediately 🙂
Arcade Fire is playing on the 21st, while Mastodon is hitting Bulgaria that day—so they aren't even in town until the 22nd. 🙂

uuu Mastodon, how delightful. Finally, something catered toward the true heavy metal connoisseurs 🙂
if I were actually forced to select a single heavy band—excluding Motörhead, of course—to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, I suppose my choice would most likely land on Mastodon

Sorry... actually, scratch that! 🤣 They aren't unbearable. I just think they might have been a lot more interesting if they had used a different vocalist.

Didn't realize both bands were already hitting up Chicago back then.

I know Hall of Fame did a solo gig at The Fillmore in 2006 if I remember right (then there was that third show with Metallica at Santa Anita Park, but I didn't bother watching the openers back then).

Great, now I bet some random indie fans will try to get into Mastodon 🙄

Well, here we go... give Oblivion this 😁 a shot. This shit made my day... Mastodon in Chicago, holy shit.

I honestly just don't get these kinds of things—you know, those weird fan meltdowns after a concert? Like, seriously, what's the harm in people checking out some great bands (even if that isn't usually their go-to genre)? Or better yet, why not just show up to a live show for a band you haven't heard much of, just because you have a hunch you might actually dig them?

I was actually just spinning The Skye a little bit ago, just to remind myself how incredible that album really is!🙏

Oh, please. As if anyone listening to The White Stripes and AF wouldn't... 🙄

It’s truly tragic—and frankly, it affects my worldview—that this is happening.
Though, I suppose nobody actually gives a damn.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone else discovered a great band, gave them a listen, and simply enjoyed the music?

But no, you lot are just being unreasonably elitist for no reason at all. 🤷

Just a quick heads-up for anyone currently typing Mastodon into YouTube for the first time: they aren't really the kind of band you'll fall in love with on the first or even second listen. It might take closer to a hundred spins before it clicks. I’d suggest being patient—just download an album and listen to it from start to finish. Their records are highly conceptual, almost as if the entire album functions as one continuous song. The music is admittedly quite "heavy" going in, but once it finally settles in your ears, 🙏 they become, in my opinion, the most powerful new metal band out there, right up there with Disturbed.

They’ve never actually played a show here. They really should have, if my memory serves me right, but the whole gig got scrapped because they ended up snowed in somewhere mid-flight.

I honestly don't have all day to spend on one group; there are just too many other great bands catching my ear right now.😍 Besides, I bet some folks on here wouldn't even give Jamiroquai a second look unless they were forced to listen to them a hundred times until it finally stuck, right?🤣🤣
I'm guessing Mastodon will be headlining the forest stage (since you mentioned Budweiser isn't the sponsor anymore), which means they'll likely clash with the main stage headliners. Personally, I'll be sticking with the big names on the main stage, so I guess I'll find something else to occupy my time during that set.☕

I suppose everyone has their own specific taste in music. Regarding Jamiroquai, I definitely agree with you; no matter how many of his tracks I listen to, they just never seem to click for me. 🤷
However, I wasn't aiming my comment specifically at you, but rather at the general forum community—especially those who tend to gravitate toward a heavier rock sound. 👍

Everything’s cool. I respect the passion. But look, there are plenty of us here who aren't really into the metal scene (honestly, I’d say at least 80% of people out there fall into that category). 😉😉😉

Does anyone know if a student can buy tickets for Lollapalooza
at multiple different AT&T locations?
Specifically, do they actually check names against IDs...

Like, do they track names...

They just pull your info from your student ID.

Hannah Kim16 said:they just scrape the data right from the index.

That isn't really the rule. From what I’ve gathered so far, they mostly just record or copy down personal info. (In my case, they didn't even bother looking at or opening my file).

They just scan an ID or maybe the front page of a student card—but honestly, it all depends on whether they feed those details into a central database. If they do, other locations could easily flag if someone’s already burned through their student discount. It's worth looking into.

I was just listening to Skyline to remind myself how great that album is.🙏

*sarcasm off* 😉
Why the immediate hostility?😛

But seriously, Mastodon is an incredibly clever band. Even if they sound a bit "too intense" at first with those screaming vocals, they really aren't. Put on Skyline [2009] and give it a shot; this isn't catchy pop music that hits instantly. It's complex and layered, so you have to put in a little effort at the start.
Here’s the best track to start with to get a feel for them.
