Inglourious Basterds. I’ve had to pause this movie a few times already and still haven't actually finished it. Honestly, I'm kind of over it right now, so I'll probably give it another shot in a few months.😛

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I know, I know—I’m a total sucker for it.

Calling it anything less than a masterpiece would be an understatement; even something like District 9 🙄 doesn't come close to capturing that level of intensity.

What else is there to say? I'm clearly getting old, so let's just leave it at that for this year.😁

I'll probably add more once I actually remember them... 🙂

I don't even get what you could possibly expect from a Terminator movie when it's the fourth installment and there's no Arnold involved—what else is there to look forward to?😁

Replacing her with Angelina Jolie.

I’ve heard nothing but glowing praise for this one—it’s sitting at a solid 8 on IMDb—but for me? I don't know.
Angelina is convincing enough, Clint holds his own, and the costume design is spot on. But... is it really?
Well, New York Daily News put it this way, and honestly, I’m inclined to agree: ''The script is touching, the direction feels steady and confident, and the production values are polished and professional. Yet, by the end, the whole thing leaves you feeling strangely hollow and unconvincing.''

Hmm, New York Daily News basically said what I’m feeling: "The script is touching, the direction feels steady and confident, and the production value is professional and appealing. Still, by the end, the whole thing feels pretty unconvincing and empty."

In what way?

I believe we’ve already had a brief debate regarding DK 😁.
Look, when a movie jumps to the number one spot on IMDb right overnight, knocking the godfather and Shawshank off the pedestal, the bar has been set extremely high.
Batman Begins is barely even in the conversation at this point. 😛

p.s. please, let's not spiral into questioning IMDb's credibility.

Interesting, though I was actually expecting the exact opposite.

Anyway—given all that—I think we can call this debate settled...

Jackie Brown, Lady in the Water, and The Night of the Hunter are the first ones that come to mind. The only catch is that while the first and last were actually solid—I was expecting greatness from them—Lady in the Water turned out to be absolute garbage compared to what I was hoping for.

I think I tend to set my expectations a bit too high sometimes—I honestly can't quite put my finger on why.
Right now, I’m thinking about a movie I watched just the other day.
Sherlock Holmes
I was really looking forward to something cool, fun, and maybe a little unconventional, but in reality, it felt pretty mediocre and just plain dull,
with the sole exception of Rachel 😍
though I truly hope and believe that Guy Ritchie's usual fans got exactly what they were looking for.

Pure 😵
disappointment. I actually had high hopes for this one before I even pressed play...
The first half definitely grabs you—it’s intense and holds your attention—but by the end, you’re just sitting there laughing at how pathetic the conclusion is. Honestly? You'll be laughing at yourself for wasting two hours of your life on such absolute garbage.
THANKS 😁

Michael Ortiz68 said:I think we already had a little bit of a good discussion about TDK... 😁
Look, when something hits number one on IMDb—surpassing even The Godfather and Shawshank—man, that's setting the bar incredibly high... seriously...
Man, Batman Begins is such a massive letdown... honestly feels like they just phoned it in for a quick buck... 😛

Good discussions are always appreciated... 😁I mean, I’m kind of with some of the points made about Batman Begins—certain parts just hit harder, you know? The action sequences feel way more tightly paced... and let's be real, that finale absolutely has to be epic. TDK, on the other hand, has a pretty weak ending, even if it did a solid job flipping Batman from a hero to someone much darker. I guess we'll just have to wait for the next installment to see which of these first two films actually carries the weight of the story better...

p.s. please, let's not turn this whole thing into a massive debate about whether we can even trust IMDb's ratings anymore...

Is there actually anything to debate here? Honestly, you can't take critics seriously... they always seem to find a way to trash a movie that ends up totally blowing my mind.

Back to the topic at hand... Avatar. Honestly, I was expecting way more from Cameron than what we actually got. Making a movie that safe—that playing it so incredibly cautious—it’s just unbelievable. But hey, the Box Office is going to carry it regardless of how poorly constructed everything else is, so I fully expect it to snag a perfect five-star rating for "originality" in the years to come... since apparently, how much cash you rake in is the only metric for quality these days. Such a shame...

Terminator Salvation. I really had high hopes for this one. We finally get the future we were promised—the war against the machines, John Connor stepping up as a rebel leader. It had all the ingredients to be a masterpiece. Honestly, I was pretty hyped for it to be a standout, but in the end, it was just okay. Nothing special.

Night Watch. I heard nothing but rave reviews about this movie before sitting down to watch it. I genuinely thought it would blow my mind. Instead, I got the usual: tedious, slow-paced "art" garbage where you have to sit through thirty minutes of footage just to see the plot move five minutes. Toss in those exhausting, frustrating camera angles that seem specifically designed to show the least interesting part of any given scene, and you have a disaster. Very few films have let me down quite like this one.

Alexander - I was expecting an epic historical masterpiece, but what I got was basically lemonade. This is easily the biggest letdown of the decade. I honestly don't get how someone who's supposed to be a legendary commander and conqueror can turn out such a pathetic movie, all while bragging about how many years they spent working on it. Oliver Stone 👎

I find myself returning to the visual splendor of Avatar quite often... there is just something about that world that stays with you, much like a distant memory you can't quite shake... It truly is a cinematic experience unlike anything else we've seen on the big screen...
I find myself reflecting once again on the legacy of the franchise, specifically regarding the direction taken with the fourth installment... It remains quite a difficult subject to navigate when one considers how much the series has shifted over the decades...
Star Wars Episodes 1, 2, and 3...

Regarding the Oscar nominees: *Crash* was just an exhausting watch. It leans way too hard into those forced racial tensions—I felt like that paranoid guy needed a reality check with a walking stick, and the old Persian character was written so poorly he bordered on being a caricature. In my opinion, it all feels incredibly counterproductive.🙄I get that the movie is centered on racial issues, but sometimes less really is more.☕
Then there’s *Slumdog Millionaire*, which feels like a similar case; it seems like it was produced solely to highlight the struggles of kids in impoverished areas without actually offering anything unique in its execution. Typical Americans—so eager to feel sympathy for everyone else's problems.🙂
Remind me to stop expecting anything worthwhile from the Academy Awards.

Sherlock Holmes—I hate to admit it—but even Guy Ritchie isn't what he used to be. Every single time I head to the theater thinking I'm in for something great, it’s the same old story. The cast is solid, you get the occasional sharp line here and there, but overall 🤷

briskhound2 said:, the pacing of the action beats feels more intentional (I mean, you need a spectacular climax for any decent movie).

That’s exactly my point 😁

The action sequences in DK felt cluttered to me; it’s like they were trying way too hard, jumping straight into fifth gear from the jump...
The result: instead of actually enjoying them, I was bored by them almost immediately after the film started.

And don't even get me started on Batman's voice 🤦

If it wasn't for the late Ledger, who knows if this movie would have been hailed as such a masterpiece 🤷

Hail to Batman Begins 🙏
