That Hyper unit for $200 is just your run-of-the-mill power supply, really. They have an EVGA SuperNOVA 600 W model for $147... but honestly, for just a bit more than $200, you could probably find a Corsair RM series or an EVGA Gold series instead.

I guess it might be easier to just grab that and pay for shipping.

I finally pulled the trigger on a Corsair CX series 600W unit for $183 😁. I couldn't wait any longer, so I also grabbed an NZXT H series case for $80. Honestly, it's pretty decent for the price. Probably the only worthwhile option at Best Buy in this budget range.

Hey, what PSU would you guys suggest for a build meant to run 24/7? It won't be pulling much power, but it'll stay on constantly. I'm looking for something highly efficient, featuring a 0dB mode for low loads (which will be most of the time), and ideally modular. Budget isn't really an issue, but I don't want to overdo it either. The specs will be pretty basic—something like an Intel Pentium G5400 paired with one or two hard drives (likely Seagate SkyHawk).

I'd go with this:

10-year warranty, Corsair, 80 PLUS Gold certification, decent price.

Unfortunately, finding anything weaker with these specs is tough.

"Noctua fan controller - Fanless until 30% load"

EDIT:

this one is semi-modular, looks solid too, 7-year warranty, but has a "silent" fan mode which probably isn't true 0db.

Hmm, I agree regarding AMD, they only had the EVGA SuperNOVA 550 listed there, so it should be in a similar tier? Regardless, this Corsair deal looks like a steal.

The Corsair RM550x is priced a bit higher, but on paper, they look pretty much the same.

The RM kicks in its fan curve even later at higher load percentages, plus the fan stays much quieter under load.

Hey there,

Man, looking through the absolute mountain of power supplies out there is giving me a massive headache, so I figured I’d come here and pick the brains of people who actually know their stuff.

First off, I’m not looking to cheap out too much on this part. I’m aiming for something in the 600 to $250 watt range. It’s pretty important to me that it’s fully modular, and if it can pull off that "zero RPM" thing where the fan stays silent when it isn't being pushed hard, even better.

https://www.amazon.com/Power-Supply-Units/b?node=969658&rh=p%3a%5B600%2C900%5D

I’m planning to grab it from Amazon since I’ll probably be picking up a bunch of other parts there on a financing plan anyway.

Thanks 😉

EDIT: Realized I forgot to mention—I definitely need at least 650W.
My build:

RX 590 8GB
Ryzen 5 3600
16GB DDR4 RAM
B450 Gaming X
1x HDD, 1x SSD

If you aren't reusing any old parts and you're building a totally fresh rig from scratch, you really ought to put more thought into how you balance the build.

I'm looking at picking up these parts and I need a solid recommendation for a high-quality, quiet power supply, budget capped at $167. Ideally something I can grab from Micro Center or maybe Linksys.

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 AF
Asrock b450m pro4-f
2x 8GB DDR4 RAM
Crucial MX500 SSD
1TB HDD
RX 570 4GB

The EVGA 400W is a solid choice for this price bracket CLICK. What kind of build are we looking at here? If you're running a power-hungry setup that really demands a reliable 600W unit, I'm afraid you'll have to shell out more than $100...

If you actually need $100 600W, you might as well just buy used...

I offloaded my old TX750 for about $83. Honestly, I’d rather plug a starving PC into something like that than some piece of junk office Dell

I'm upgrading this old rig of mine—what kind of PSU should I grab to run an HD 7850 and an Intel Core i7-920?
