Pipl, my GPU has been acting up for a while now—it's a Sapphire 4850 512GB. It’s mostly stable, but things go south whenever I try an extended desktop setup by hooking my TV up to the PC (BSODs, artifacts on the screen, random reboots). Now I'm starting to wonder if my PSU is dying and taking the card down with it. I'm running a Corsair 500W, an early unit that's still under warranty. Any thoughts? Is this power supply actually enough for a Q8400 2.66, 4GB DDR2, 4850 512GB, an EP45-UD3R motherboard, and a DVD drive?

That whole setup isn't pulling more than 250W—honestly, I don't see how that could be stressing the power supply at all. You should probably try a clean reinstall of your drivers first, and while you're at it, keep a close eye on your GPU temps. If you really want to dig into the video RAM specifically, you might want to run a test with this tool: http://mikelab.kiev.ua/index_en.php?...ROGRAMS/vmt_en

You should also keep an eye on your GPU temps, or you could just run this to test the VRAM: Check this out: http://mikelab.kiev.ua/index_en.php?...ROGRAMS/vmt_en

Thanks, I ran that quick test and you wouldn't believe how many errors it flagged in the first three minutes alone.

260,588 errors!!!

The express test is only 15% done and I’ve still got 20 minutes to go. Haha.

Hey everyone.
I’m slowly swapping out parts in my rig—I always find myself leaning on you guys for advice before I pull the trigger.
So, looks like my power supply finally bit the dust (probably, since the whole PC is totally dead right now)
Here’s what I’m running-
Intel Core i5-2500K
NVIDIA 1 GB GDDR5
3 hard drives
4 GB DDR3 memory
and some other bits and pieces..
The old PSU was only 400W, so I'm wondering—do I actually need to step up to something beefier for this build? Any specific brands or models you'd recommend? And where's the best place to grab one without getting ripped off?
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I mean, there are hundreds of different power supplies out there 🙄 😂

What kind of budget were you looking at?

The store is right there in the link...

Is there anything else out there?
And does anyone actually know which store carries this stuff if I wanted to grab it tomorrow and just DIY the whole setup myself?

If you haven't bought it yet, grab a cheaper CPU and put that money into a better motherboard. This board is basically a trash can.
1 x Gigabyte GA-MA770, AM3, NVIDIA GeForce 7700, Intel ICH10, BUS 5200 MHz, DDR3, 4xDDR3
1 x Intel Core i7-2600K Black Edition, socket AM3, BOX
1 x DDR3 4GB (2x2GB) Kingmax, 1333MHz, FLFE
1 x HDD SAMSUNG 500GB 7200rpm 16MB cache Serial ATA II-300, F3
1 x MSI R6770, 1GB DDR5 128 bits, Dula-Link DVI+HDMI+D-Sub
1 x CORSAIR 430W Power Supply, GTX Series CMPSU-430CXV2EU, 12cm vent

$1114
no point in having 1600mhz RAM if those processors only support 1333mhz, if I recall correctly.

There’s zero point in getting 1600MHz RAM if I recall correctly; those processors only support up to 1333MHz.

Thanks for the tip, I'll probably end up going that route. Quick question though—can you actually unlock two more cores on this CPU with that board?

Nah, but this one works 😁
1 x Gigabyte GA-MA770, AM3, AMD 870, Intel ICH10, BUS 5200 MHz, DDR3

$1156

It’s still $33 cheaper than what you were originally planning to grab 🙂 and the build is way more balanced

Hey there.
I've got this no-name 600W power supply that's basically on its deathbed right now, so I'm wondering if that Corsair 420W unit is actually any good? Or better yet, what else should I be looking at for under $100? I'm not dropping a single cent over
. My GPU is an AMD Radeon HD 6850

430W Corsair CX Series
or maybe the 450W EVGA...
honestly, either one should get the job done.. 😁

Thanks...
I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to power supplies, but I was wondering why a 520W unit like this ends up being so much cheaper than something like these ,
I know quality matters, obviously, but still...
😁
