Gerald Patel56 said:Hey there...
I need some advice on a power supply for my next build. Give me a few suggestions—maybe just tell me the bare minimum wattage versus what would be ideal, then I'll make my final call...

GPU ..........AMD Radeon HD 6870 Series

Motherboard...........Gigabyte 3870

CPU..........Intel core i5 2320 box

HDD.................Looking for a 7200rpm drive (that should be enough info to figure out the PSU, right?)

RAM.................DDR3 4 GB 1333 (for now, might add another 4 GB stick later)

Not sure which soldering iron I'm going to grab yet, probably just a standard one...

Thinking about picking up this case

Anyway, help me out with the power supply options.

Maybe an XFX one from Best Buy

Are you absolutely sure that thing can run on a 450W power supply without tripping or glitching out?

Sure, no problem at all 🙂

There might even be some extra room left over 😁

Alright, I guess I'll just pick up a reliable brand like XFX or Corsair then. I actually thought I’d need a beefier power supply because my old setup—running a Gigabyte 3870 and an Intel processor at 3.00GHz—worked just fine on a Cooler Master 420W unit.

Just grab one of those two 🙂 or give us a different store name and we'll try to suggest something else.

Just so you don't rush out and pick up an EVGA 450 BQ or something...

So, I'm rocking an ASUS P8H61 motherboard and I need a power supply with enough cables to actually cover everything—haha! ;D Looking for something around 500w

Look, just come back and explain what you were actually trying to say. And maybe let me know which CPU and GPU you're running, your budget, and which store you're looking at.

Can anyone help me out??
I'm looking for a decent power supply that won't break the bank, just something reliable enough to handle this build
CPU: Intel Core i5-4400
GPU: GTX 550 Ti
RAM: 3GB
Motherboard: ASUS P8H61
HDD: 5200rpm

So, you actually planning on buying one?
A Corsair VS Series, an EVGA Core Edition, maybe some Seasonic, or those LC Power Green GP3 series units, or even a Thermaltake Smart Series...

The last three are solid, but the first one's a bit weak...

I’d probably just go with the OCZ ZS... 🙂

Hey guys, I need some help picking out a power supply for this build:
- Intel Core i5
- Gigabyte p55-ud5
- XFX 5850 1Gb DDR3
- 64 GB SSD (Pretty sure it's a Kingston)
- 4x 2TB WD Caviar Green SATA3 HDDs
- Sony Blu-ray burner
- USB keyboard and mouse
- Fractal Design Midi Tower Define R3 USB 3.0 case, Snow White (Haven't pulled the trigger yet—is this thing actually quiet? If anyone has better suggestions, let me know!)

My biggest priority is keeping this rig dead silent while still having enough juice to run everything.

I've got my eye on the EVGA 400W fanless, specifically the SS-400FL. It looks awesome, but will it actually handle this setup? If not, what should I grab instead?

Thanks in advance! Cheers!

That EVGA unit will run everything, but man, you're gonna pay through the nose for it. 🙂
I guess if you aren't some total noise freak, maybe just stick to "normal" power supplies—like the one mentioned above, or even an XFX 450W/550W if you want a little breathing room.

If you aren't some total noise freak, just stick to "standard" power supplies—like the one suggested above, or maybe an XFX 450W/550W if you want some extra headroom.

Look, personally, I don't mind a little noise, but this room is a guest room. I'm planning to run this server in there, so obviously the goal is for it to be silent so my guests can actually get some sleep, right?
The whole draw to that Seasonic 400 fanless is that it's silent, which is exactly what I want. My only real worry was whether it could actually handle the load.
Also, I'm not sure how loud the case itself will be. People say it's good (I know, totally off-topic, but it's related, so bear with me)!?!

Anyway, thanks everyone for the help!

I mean, if you've actually got the cash, why wouldn't you just go fanless? It should handle all that easily. Fractal Design cases are pretty solid too, so I guess you shouldn't run into any issues with it.
