Exactly! Invest now, save yourself the headache a few years down the road. I'm all for paying a little extra upfront to avoid constant tinkering later. Better to do it right the first time!

So, bottom line: the EVGA 400 fanless can pull this whole setup 24/7 (I'm just a bit worried about having enough SATA connectors and total wattage), and paired with the Fractal Design case, it’s gonna be super quiet?

Honestly, just look into the Corsair Obsidian 550D if you aren't sweating the extra cash—you should be able to find it for around $367 somewhere.

I need some help, and I need it fast... I'm running a GIGAtech 450 w 24 power supply right now, and I’m wondering if that thing is just gonna choke trying to handle an Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX 768 mb. Everything else is just an i3 paired with 4 GB of G.Skill RAM

It might actually hold up, but I’d honestly just swap it out. It isn't exactly top-tier gear, so if it decides to die, it could take a few other components down with it.

You can't even find this power supply online, which pretty much tells you everything you need to know. Take a look at the label on the unit and check the amperage on the 12V rail; you should be seeing at least 25A or more. My advice? Don't risk it with that power supply.

So I finally pulled the trigger on a new power supply... http://www.techzonics.com/purepower-...uter-ps-bb.jpg Is this actually going to cut it for my Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX 768?

What even is that? You should probably just order something better instead.

Some guy tells me this one's enough to handle the card... I don't know, man. He's swearing up and down that this is the way to go, says it's solid. 🙂

How much are you dropping on that? It’s pretty old school, probably came out like 6 years ago. Only puts out 22 amps on the 12v rail, which I guess is a bit low for what we need nowadays.

Then again, it’s overkill on the 5v and 3.3v rails, which is kind of useless for modern builds. 😬

Six years? Please. We're looking at closer to ten. 😁 And you're calling that thing "new"?

So, what’s the verdict on this http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=bs&c...w=1024&bih=624 thing? One branch is sitting at 12V 14A and the other one is 12V 15A—thoughts?

Hey everyone, I’m planning to head over to Best Buy this Monday to take advantage of some sales, and I've been thinking about picking up a new power supply.

My current setup looks like this:
Intel Q6600
A pretty mediocre motherboard—I can't recall the exact model off the top of my head, so I'd have to double-check later.
2GB of RAM (though I’ll likely grab another 2-4GB soon)
ATI HD 4850 1GB DDR5
Two hard drives (500GB + 300GB)
Right now, I'm running a cheap, unreliable 400W unit, and before I go ahead and install this ATI graphics card, I really want to swap out the power supply so I don't end up frying my components.🤣

I'm looking at one of these three options:

or

or

As long as it can handle daily gaming sessions for me and my roommate without any issues.🙂

I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to power supplies, so I figured it would be better to ask you all first.

None of those three are great. I'd just grab this:

(Maybe try to find a GP3 series if you can)

Or maybe if you have $17 more cash:

I’ll probably take a look at the first one or maybe the last option, provided I can manage to free up some extra cash by then 🙂 there really is a massive difference between them

Do you think a 450-460W unit would be enough to comfortably handle this build? Since the PC is mostly for gaming mixed with some light office work and faxing tasks anyway. I might even consider adding a hard drive, a different motherboard, or more RAM down the road.

From what I've been reading online, everyone seems to steer clear of LC POWER, so if I go with this third option... do you think it should be reliable enough to keep everything running smoothly?

Look, darkowl72, quit talking nonsense. LC Power supplies are actually decent if they’re from the GP3 series, just like Joshua Ramos14 already told you.

I’d also throw a few Chieftec units into the mix. They’re cheap, but honestly, they're damn good power supplies.

Alright, I think I've narrowed my choices down to either the LC 560W unit or maybe one of those XFX 450W models. To be honest, the pricing is throwing me for a loop because it doesn't seem to make sense; I've seen some 450W units priced higher than the 550W options, which is pretty confusing. I am leaning toward the LC model, though I really hope the build quality is decent this time around, since the old LCA unit I currently have is honestly terrible. Let me dig through my desk and see exactly which one I'm running right now.

Since I sent this from my phone, I can't really go back and edit the post, so here is the link to the power supply currently running in my rig

The unit is getting pretty loud, and if I recall correctly, the folks over at engadget.com were already suggesting that I should swap it out sooner rather than later 🙂)

If you want the best bang for your buck, grab the XFX 450W. Trust me, it's the best one out of everything they're offering.

I’m really hoping this power supply can handle the graphics card without breaking a sweat, especially since the manufacturer's website lists 450W as the recommended minimum. I’d much rather have some extra breathing room than deal with a system that’s constantly teetering on the edge of instability or causing unnecessary headaches during a heavy gaming session.

Your setup pulls about 300 watts max, and that NVIDIA GTX 450 power supply has an 80+ Bronze rating, delivering over 400 watts on the 12V rail. This PSU actually handles much more than your current card needs.
