I guess we'll just blame Windows 10 this time!

Redwing is a decent enough PSU, so I doubt it's actually causing the Blue Screen of Death.

Jerry Watson2 said:Thanks for getting back to me. I'm dealing with an intermittent Blue Screen of Death while using Google Chrome or playing Witcher 3—though with the game, it only seems to trigger when I'm navigating the menus. I've already gone through the dance of swapping between older and newer drivers, but nothing has managed to fix this headache.

My PC doesn't ever fully shut down on its own or spontaneously restart, but there is one thing: my GPU is currently powered by a single 6-pin connector, while the second 6-pin connection is being handled via a Molex adapter.

So, I figured I might as well upgrade the power supply since I was planning on replacing it relatively soon anyway. I've decided to go with an XFX 👍

By the way, have you tried overclocking the card at all?

Nah, just running at stock settings. It’s got this MSI app where you can toggle between three modes: Silent (300 MHz), Gaming (1080 MHz), and OC (1120 MHz). Right now, it's set to Gaming mode, but like I mentioned before, the PC doesn't actually shut down or restart or anything... it just hits me with a Blue Screen of Death (sometimes the screen goes black, sometimes it's those weird black-and-white stripes or whatever). The audio keeps playing fine though—like if I'm watching stuff on YouTube—but the picture just dies.

Blue Screen of Death usually means the whole system is crashing (you'll need to reboot), and it typically gives you an error code explaining what went wrong. If you aren't getting a Blue Screen of Death at all and it's just the display issues you described, then you might need to put the monitor on the suspect list too. 🍿

If you're seeing artifacts all over your screen—those lines and visual glitches you mentioned—that points directly to the graphics card. It definitely isn't an issue caused by your power supply. Run a GPU stress test to confirm; FurMark is the most intense, but you could also try MSI Kombustor or the tools within OCCT. If those artifacts still pop up during the test, you might have enough ground to file a warranty claim for that card.

If it keeps throwing artifacts during the test, you should probably look into returning that card.

Man, I've tried everything and nothing works. I can play Witcher 3, Far Cry 4, or AC Unity for hours and everything runs totally fine. It's just when I'm using Chrome (YouTube videos, random websites, etc.) that things go sideways. I even tried turning off hardware acceleration in Chrome, but no luck there either. Anyway, I'm heading out tomorrow to grab an OCZ power supply, though it probably won't fix this specific issue, but at least I'll have a solid PSU for the next few years. Before this card, I was running a Sapphire 7750 that worked like a charm, but it just couldn't handle newer games. So yeah, that's where I'm at. Thanks for the help, everyone!

Why don't you try reproducing the issue in Firefox? And for heaven's sake, do make sure you actually update that miserable Flash Player if you've been ignoring it for months.

Word is out that browsers are officially saying goodbye to Flash Player

http://wccftech.com/mozilla-block-fl...k-calls-death/

I ditched Google Chrome a long time ago, but if I'm not mistaken, I've been seeing more and more people complaining about it online lately. Generally speaking, as long as you're just browsing the web, your graphics card should stay perfectly calm.

I ditched Chrome ages ago, but if I'm reading the internet right, people are starting to complain about it. Honestly, as long as the issues stay inside the browser, your GPU is safe.

Chrome still runs perfectly fine for me.

Tried to get Flash Player installed, but everything just crashed my Witcher 3 yesterday anyway. I set up Firefox too, but man, I just can't seem to get used to it. Anyway, I don't wanna keep cluttering up this power supply thread with random stuff. Thx.

Well, Google Chrome actually comes with an integrated flash player (other Chromium browsers like Opera don't)

Store? Money?

If you have a Best Buy nearby, maybe check out something like this: http://www.bestbuy.com/product...details

Or maybe Micro Center: http://www.microcenter.com/product_info.php?c...ducts_id=15157

Can anyone recommend a decent power supply? Right now I'm running a random 500w unit that probably cost me $43, and honestly, I wouldn't bother upgrading unless it starts acting up or causing issues 🙂
.
PC build:

CPU: Intel I5-4460
MBO: H81M-E33
RAM: 2X4 GB DDR3-1600
GPU: GIGABYTE R7 370 2g

HDD2: 2 TB Hitachi 7200 SATA
HDD4: 1 TB WD My Passport - external

What's the budget?

Less is more 🙂 Best Buy 🙂

Let's say $350 is a bit much just for a power supply... I could probably stretch the budget, but I'm not sure if there's any point. This old junk has been running for 5 or 6 years and still works, even if it looks like absolute trash. 🙂

I'm passing by the local magazine shop today 🙂 Should I grab something there, or is it worth making a trip over to the Links store? I've got my bike with me. 🙂

What do you guys think of this?

That German Ultron... It might not be all bad, but honestly, GP3 has proven itself time and again as a super reliable and solid power supply. If you can handle the heat and the local Best Buy isn't too far out of your way, I'd personally stick with the local shop...

If I don't make it, I'm sending the bill for my rehab to a spa somewhere. 🙂 Thanks.
