Nah, it's one of the louder ones, though you don't have many options when you're on a budget like this 😬

Maybe try checking out Links instead 😛

Power requirement 500W (with one 6-pin external power connector).

That’s what Gigabyte says for my 37 370. Will the LC Power be enough? It's rated at 460, while my current one is a CCT at 500w.

I hear you, but those suggestions are mostly aimed at cheap power supplies, similar to your 😬

That LC Power might actually deliver more juice than what you're running now. By the way, I guess your PC build pulls less than 250W under full load.

Understood, thanks. I can send over the invoice for the spa resort if you need it. 🙂

Don't go with that RealPower unit. I think some guy on a forum wrote a review about it somewhere; you should probably dig through the threads and find it. Honestly, it sounds like you were using a Shrotex before, which was obviously noisy. Any decent, relatively high-quality power supply will be quiet enough for you.

I don't want to clutter things up by starting a whole new thread, so I'll just drop this here.
I'm looking for a power supply for the build listed below, ideally something budget-friendly. Any suggestions?

I was eyeing this one:
http://www.amazon.com/power-supply-ak...20-retail.aspx

Here is the specs:
Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3
AMD Athlon II X2 7750 BE (2.7 GHz) AM2+
Sapphire HD 6570 2GB DDR3 PCI-E
2x 2GB PC2-6400 800MHz
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 320GB

Thanks.

That doesn't look right to me. I’d suggest looking at something like this instead:

Thanks for getting back to me, but could I get a little more clarification? Why would a 400W unit actually be a better bet than this 650W one?

edit:
Up until recently, I was running an Office Depot B400ATX
+3.3v at 28A
+5v at 40A
+12v at 17A
Maxing out at 220w on the +3.3v and +5v rails combined
With a total max of 380w across the +3.3v, +5v, and +12v rails
Giving me a total maximum capacity of 400w...

The radio setup works fine, but then the PC just died on me. I opened up the power supply and noticed some capacitors were bulging. I swapped them out, but it’s as if the configuration drains them too quickly... or rather, the PSU just can't recharge them fast enough...

Those Akyga power supplies are absolute bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. They claim 650W, but only pulling 30A on the 12V rail is just pathetic for that rating. The capacitors are total junk, there's zero protection, and honestly, the fact they don't even include a 4+4-pin for the CPU or more than a single 6-pin for the GPU is a huge red flag. 🤣I won't even get started on the voltage regulation, the ripple, or how bad the efficiency is.

That Office Depot unit has an 80+ Bronze certification and offers roughly the same wattage as the Akyga, but with much better specs and stability across the board.

If you aren't planning a massive overhaul with a high-end GPU and a beefy processor, this would probably be your best bet:

It’s actually a step up in quality from that Office Depot model (even if it has slightly less wattage), and since your current build probably pulls less than 150W under load...

Alright, I follow you. But that part about the CPU only pulling 150W... it doesn't quite sit right with me, especially since my processor alone is rated at 95W.

Your GPU pulls about 40W at full load, which is basically peanuts compared to the rest (you've got the CPU + GPU + maybe 3-5W per fan or HDD + roughly 10-20W for the motherboard). Plus, I guess you'll never actually have everything pinned at 100% simultaneously anyway. 😉

Alright, thanks a lot. I suppose I'm still looking for a bit more guidance... what should I actually be keeping an eye on when picking out a power supply? Which specific specs really matter?...

Look, there’s nothing decent under $100. Before I go out and buy anything, I really need to confirm if the power supply is actually the culprit here... I’m running two processors—one is 1.8 GHz and the other is an Athlon Dual Core. On the dual core, it barely manages to boot up and hit the POST screen once in a blue moon before it just shuts down. As for the weaker one, I occasionally manage to get it through the POST and into Windows... but the second any kind of load hits the system, it just cuts out.

So, my old 500W power supply finally kicked the bucket. Of course, it happens right after the warranty expires... just my luck. I’ve also noticed that decent power supplies have basically gone through the shredder price-wise; almost everything high-quality is nearly double what it was just three or four years ago.

I'm browsing some options over at Best Buy (based on http://powersupplycalculator.net/, my max load is sitting at 320W, though they suggest a 450W unit if I want it running 24/7). I definitely need two 6-pin connectors for the GPU.

Right now, I'm looking at the Zalman LX 500W, the Zalman GS 500W, or maybe a Xilence Performance C 600W.

Here’s the build:
ASRock P67 Pro3 SE motherboard
Intel Core i5-2550K
XFX Radeon 6870
2x4GB DDR3
500GB Western Digital Caviar Green
DVD/CD RW drive
Zalman case with 4 fans

If anyone has a smarter suggestion than what I'm looking at, please let me know...

The LX series really isn't anything special, and I'm not even sure where you were planning on picking it up since they're barely in stock anywhere. Same goes for the GS; I don't know where you saw that one. SOMETHING LIKE THIS would be ideal for you—it could even handle a much stronger card, like an R9 280.

With $100, you’re barely going to find a decent 400W power supply.

Try borrowing one from a friend just to test things out. This setup is pretty dated, so anything could be the culprit. If it isn't the power supply, use the process of elimination. If the system is being temperamental—working one minute and failing the next—the PSU is definitely your prime suspect.

placidgull21

Those aren't exactly top-tier units; they're likely even lower quality than the OC unit you didn't specify. Do you have a budget in mind?

EVGA SuperNOVA 500

If you can grab it, I guess taking an 80+ Gold 500W unit for under $167 is a total steal, especially since the build quality is basically on par with a Corsair RM Series.
