I've been checking out DDR3 prices in stores lately—on average, an 8GB stick of DDR3 is about 150-$67 cheaper than an 8GB DDR4 module. When you're putting a whole build together, it doesn't really move the needle much on the total cost.
I get that higher clock speeds theoretically mean better performance, but from what I see when people are building PCs, most setups just end up with DDR3 at 1600 MHz. Even though there are kits available at higher frequencies that aren't much more expensive, it seems like 🤷
