The power supply is totally fine; I'm running a Kolink KL-500M 80+ bronze and it hasn't given me any trouble at all.

I managed to put together an almost identical build for just under $2.00 at Best Buy, especially if you swap in a better power supply...

Prices for Ryzen 5000 series chips dropped by about 10-15% at my local Best Buy last week, so finally something 😁

5600G: $155
5600: $165
5700G: $245
5700X: $270
5800X3D: $440

A 5600G paired with a B550 board and 16GB of DDR4 3200 runs for roughly $300. You could probably build a whole rig with a decent PSU, a case, and a 500GB NVMe for around $450. It’d be ready to handle an upgrade to a 5800X3D and maybe something like an RTX 4080 down the road, which isn't bad, I guess. 🍿

I’m looking to put together a PC with a budget of $1333 specifically for video rendering. I realize it’s peanuts, but it’s what I've got to work with. If anyone is willing to help me spec out a build, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks 🙂

good news!
5600G: $155
5600: $165
5700G: $245
5700X: $270
5800X3D: $440

You could grab a 5600G + a B550 board + 16GB of DDR4 3200 for maybe around $300... then a whole PC with a decent power supply, a case, and a 500GB NVMe would run you about $450. And the best part? It’s all ready for me to just drop in a 5800X3D and something like an RTX 4080 later on. Not bad at all, right? 🍿

Is there any sign that these might dip even lower, or do you think now is actually the perfect time to just pull the trigger on a 5600?

It might drop, but probably only by about ten bucks at most.

Yeah, that’s basically what I was thinking too.
I don't recall the 3600 ever dipping below the $100 mark, and now the 5600 is sitting around $120 or so.
I think I'm gonna just grab one in the next few days.

Could someone help me put together a build using these parts on a site like Newegg or something similar? I'd probably look into financing it over 36 months. I need the total, including a monitor, to be around $1667

Greetings,

My current setup:

Intel Core i5-7600K
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super
500W Platinum PSU
Some ASUS motherboard around $267

I am wondering if I could get something significantly better for a budget of $2000 than what I currently have...

If you really want to push it—an Intel Core i5-12600K + RTX 3080 is about $2267, and once you sell off your old CPU and GPU, you're pretty close to $2000.

The only issue is the power supply. What are you running?

An easier path would be jumping to an Intel Core i5-12600K with an RX 6700 or an RTX 3060. You probably wouldn't need to swap out the PSU for that.

Building a whole new system from scratch doesn't make sense on this budget.

Hey, what should I upgrade in this rig of mine? Red Dead Redemption 2 runs like a dream, but Hell Let Loose is stuttering a bit whenever I move around—plus my GPU is pinned at 100% most of the time. image
I’m a total newbie when it comes to this stuff, so help a guy out if you can.

It's a bummer you're running a single 16GB stick of RAM; Ryzen really thrives on dual channel. Dual channel makes a huge difference.
Even though the power supply is a bit weak, you could definitely slap in a much stronger GPU like an RX 6600. For about $733 it's a pretty decent buy.
Your next worthwhile upgrade would be an RX 6700. At that price point, it's also a solid deal.

Hell Let Loose is such a mess when it comes to optimization. I’m honestly just holding off on playing it again until I can finally upgrade my GPU. If we're talking 1080p, that RX 6600 the other guy suggested would be a massive step up

And honestly, an RX 6700 isn't much of a win if you compare it to the 6700XT, which is $67 pricier

By the way, the RX 6600 and 6600XT are incredibly efficient—they actually pull less power than an old RX 570. They’re a solid pick if you aren't running a massive power supply. Perfect match for a Ryzen 2600.

Hey everyone!

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I’m trying to put together a build with a budget of around 5k... $0.00

I’m not really a gamer or anything—just looking for a setup with decent integrated graphics that can handle dual monitors at a high resolution without breaking a sweat. Oh, and I definitely want 16GB of RAM.

No OS needed. I was thinking about going with an AMD processor—I've heard they're usually cheaper than Intel and don't really lag behind much, right?

Thanks in advance!

Hello, since it is Black Friday, I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find a good deal on a Mac Mini M1 here in the States?

The seller barely provided any actual specs regarding the motherboard, processor, power supply, SSD, or that "500GB fast drive." 😵

All we know for sure is there's an RX 580 in there. Whether that 8-core FX8300 CPU is ten years old (which is highly likely) or some Core i7 (highly unlikely at that price point), we have no clue.
Because of those unknowns, you're also left guessing about the rest of the build—like the RAM and the motherboard.

Get more details first before anyone can give you a real opinion, but looking at this ad right now... it's pretty sketchy. If it actually had a Core i7, he probably would have mentioned it immediately.
