IMDb

It actually starts out feeling a lot more grounded than The Final Chapter did. The plot has some actual substance and the cinematography is decent enough, but then everything just goes completely off the rails for me once Dr. transforms. I realize now that they had to do that to stay true to the game, but seeing it play out on screen just felt ridiculous... I couldn't help but laugh at how absurd it was. And just like the last installment, they completely toss logic out the window during the action sequences; there are moments where the crew is just casually strolling away from zombie dogs as if those things were moving in slow motion...

As far as this movie goes—well, honestly, the sooner I can forget it exists, the better.

When is Disney finally going to make a movie based on this game??

I honestly don't get you guys acting like experts on this movie. Have any of you actually played a > game before? And I mean the original one from '96, not some watered-down remake. To me, this is about as close as we're getting to that original vibe 🤷

I have played them. Honestly, the movie is bad, the acting is bad, and the special effects are bad.

Man, honestly... they could have thrown a billion dollars at this project and it still would've been a total waste of cash.

Look, man, you're totally missing the mark here. You completely missed the whole point and the actual vibe of the game.

Honestly, you can't even fix that, and there's really no point in trying. It drives me crazy seeing Leon Kennedy written like some total idiot. If you've actually played RE2 or any of the other games, you're probably sitting there thinking, "WTF?" But even putting that aside, they completely missed the mark on the vibe. This game is supposed to be a mood-setting horror, and they just totally botched it.

The game just hits different. It’s got this depth that a movie could never touch. Like, the whole point is being in there, hunting for clues and piecing together solutions yourself—you can't really capture that vibe on screen, and honestly, you wouldn't want to try. To me, those movies aren't even really Resident Evil. They just grab the names and some bits of the plot from the first three games and call it a day, but they don't actually feel like they belong in that universe. The characters are totally off, the dialogue is just painful to sit through, and the whole thing feels rushed and messy. It’s just poorly executed.

I'm with you on that. You just can't translate that specific feeling of playing a game onto a cinema screen. It's a unique sensation, especially with a title like this.

Besides, I already mentioned that this felt like the closest thing we've seen so far. Especially compared to everything else that's been put out up to this point.

And back when I was actually playing the game, I wasn't even paying much attention to the characters. I've basically forgotten them by now; they were just names like Claire and stuff.
I didn't get super emotionally attached or anything—I'm not that big of a fanatic. 🤷

They basically just functioned as our avatars. 🤷

But when I look at the game as a whole, through all its animations and everything, this still feels like the most accurate version. Being overly serious wouldn't even fit the vibe; there's no need for it.

I mean, yeah, Leon Kennedy actually gets a real character arc later on in the other games, so it feels a little half-baked seeing him written like this right now, but whatever.

If a game is actually well-made, the characters matter just as much as the gameplay. That’s just how it is.

I mean, look at Metal Gear Solid. That protagonist? Total badass. Solid Snake was such a legendary character.

In this one, everything basically boils down to blasting zombies and solving some puzzles, which is what I found cool about the game. But honestly? That’s the last thing I want to sit through in a movie.🤷

Some people just love watching someone else mess with their wife. 🤷
That’s basically how I feel about these video game adaptations.

It feels a bit sluggish and looks low-budget, but honestly? I loved it. Why? Simply because I’m a massive Resident Evil fan, and I’ve been waiting for a movie like this since 2000. Okay, fine, I'm lying—I've actually been waiting since 2006, back when I first played Resident Evil 4 and fell down the rabbit hole. Wouldn't it be incredible if they just made a film based on the game featuring Leon Kennedy? And wouldn't a young Brad Pitt be the absolute perfect choice for the role? If only I were the director...

The movie basically just mimics the game, though I guess playing the actual game is a way better experience.

Honestly, I’d rather sit through a longplay of old games on YouTube than watch any of these movies. You can absolutely translate a game's story and atmosphere into a movie or a limited series format, but instead, they opted for mindless shooting sprees—you know, those Milla Jovovich flicks—and we ended up with this mess.

There might actually be a reason why the movie looks so cheap and amateurish. It turns out the production house is the same one behind the Milla Jovovich movies: Constantin Film. My theory? Production companies occasionally churn out a movie "on the fly" just to keep their rights from expiring. The last Resident Evil film came out back in 2016, so it's totally possible they rushed this one out just to secure the rights for a better reboot. If that’s the case, maybe the production quality will improve next time, but I highly doubt we'll get actual storytelling, decent acting, or atmosphere. We'll probably just get more senseless gunfights.

I read somewhere that Capcom regrets selling the rights to Constantin Film, which goes all the way back to 1998.

That's exactly why they're making a Hellraiser sequel—just so they don't lose the rights.

watched the movie - honestly, the effects were weak, the intro dragged on forever, and some parts were just straight up 🙄

but if you're just looking to kill a boring night - it's a decent enough flick

Compared to the series, this is a total masterpiece.🤣
I liked the setting and the vibe; felt a bit like walking through Raccoon City myself. Could've used a little more runtime, though.
The casting is fine enough.
