Oh please, go ahead and judge everyone who listens to country music in their little bubbles! Look, I used to think exactly like you guys—that the lyrics were shallow and meant for people with no depth—but once you get hooked, there's no turning back. Why does it even matter what other people listen to?!? It honestly just shows how miserable you are. Have you ever heard anyone constantly trash-talking metalheads?!? No, and besides, look at how they dress. They look absolutely terrifying. If one of them showed up at my door in the middle of the night... I'd be terrified. Is that normal? To me, no, but do I look down on them? Of course not, because I actually have some class, which clearly some of you lack! And for the record, Chicago isn't some backwater town... get your head out of the sand!👎

I mean, sorry, but it’s true for people who moved here. With some honorable exceptions, obviously. Most people I know who came over from Canada—or are actually from there—listen to country music, even if it's just "in passing."

I know that's not right, and I'm not saying everyone who likes country is a bad person, but I just can't help myself. I can deal with almost anything, but country 🙂

I just wanted to offer a little perspective on your "logic," so please don't take it personally.

It’s true there is a lot of low-quality music coming out of the North America (though we have plenty here too—whatever exists there, exists here), but don't compare a legend like Frank Sinatra to some random pop starlet; that's a sin. First, do a quick search on Sinatra, look at his career, listen to his classics. Look, I'm not forcing you, you don't have to. What I mean is, even if certain songs and lyrics make me nauseous, you can't lump everything into one category of "trash." These styles differ, and so does the quality. You can't put someone like Johnny Cash in the same bucket as a generic pop act singing about driving a Porsche or a BMW.

Also, where are you getting the idea that you won't find this music in Canada or Mexico? Young people there don't despise it entirely—not at all—but there will always be those who love it and those who don't. Some people prefer techno or trance, others go to rock concerts. People have different tastes and styles.

The European Union? Who actually wants to be there? Not us. Only our government does. Even in Congress, they play this stuff during breaks...
All in all, why label it all "hillbilly behavior"? Would you demand that everyone goes to the Metropolitan Opera House?

My grandmother is absolutely obsessed with Halid, so I grew up pretty much steeped in his music. And let me tell you—we aren't talking about that cheap, tacky party music. This is the real deal.

Look, I’ve got my own favorites too, and they aren't just mindless pop hits. Take that Shakira half-documentary—that was actually solid stuff. It wasn't some catchy radio jingle, but it was good.
Oh, they exist, obviously. But I was talking specifically about those girls born into that whole country music scene.
Halid, Kitić—maybe?, Merlin, Joksimović... I won't even list them all. They’re fine enough to have on in the background because they don't drive you crazy. But Sinan Sakić? Man, that's a whole different level.

I find myself heading down to the local bars pretty often. In my neck of the woods, they’re constantly blasting Nina, Magazin, and Colonia—plus you can always count on hearing some Red Apple thrown into the mix too.
Our music gets played over there way more than people realize.
I live right by one of those busiest Best Buy locations in the city, and honestly? I haven't dealt with any noise complaints once. Not even on the weekends when they're absolutely slammed—not that it even matters to them if it's a weekend or not, they're always running at full tilt.
Once that inevitable reality check hits them, they’re going to look absolutely ridiculous. It'll be a total joke.

pick a side on who actually listens to folk. Why would you assume someone's heritage dictates their playlist? I'm not from Romania or Mexico, yet I love Gypsy music. It's great stuff. And I'll take some Anthrax any day. These groups don't have any musical connection other than being in my CD player.
