Best pop punk bands of all time?

I guess I’ll have to steal some Wrongov bands, since they’ve become such a staple... 😘
So, my pop punk favorites are...
😍Social Distortion😍 — arguably the gold standard of pop punk if you ask me, especially those albums following "Prison Bound-a." By the way, why does nobody on this forum (besides maybe me) give them any credit? 😕 Then you’ve got the Soc. D. clones; Foxy (the female version of Soc. D.) and Church of Confidence (the German version of Soc. D.)... Clones, sure, but still worth a mention.
You can't forget that massive pile of British bands from the late 70s and early 80s: The Boys, The Crack, Not Sensibles, The Stiffs, Rezillos, and that overly theatrical Tom Robinson... The American/Canadian response would be: The Viletones, The Secrets, SNFU, The Dickies, Forgotten Rebels (who are great! 🙏 ), Suicidal Commandos, Moving Targets (oh yeah), Pegboy, and the Epoxies (synth pop punk)... regardless of when you were born.
Squeeze doesn't really fit the "punk" label, but whatever... and I almost forgot The Vapors.
I could probably list strategically important bands until tomorrow, but I'm exhausted after work and getting ready to patch up, so that's it.

Man, I could list a million more, but fine—if we’re strictly sticking to the absolute best: Richard Hell, Gang of Four, Magazine, Vibrators, and even those slimy Bow Wow Wow types (I mean, When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going is a decent enough record, I guess). As for newer stuff, I've always had a soft spot for Chumbawamba. Every time I hear bands like The Offspring or Green Day, I can't help but picture that one scene from Hi-Fidelity where some girl walks into the local shop—you know, the kind where music is always blasting—and asks, "Who are these new Green Day guys?" and the clerk just gives her this look of pure contempt and says, "Are you kidding? That's just old school Stiff Little Fingers." 😬

Honestly, that’s one of their most mediocre EPs—it doesn't even clock in at 15 minutes. I wouldn't waste my cash on it if I were you.😠

I'm actually sticking to the topic here—for once.😁 If you forgot: Pop punk—honestly, what a mess. I was listening to some old Blink-182 tracks the other day and just started rolling my eyes at how much everything has changed since the early days. It’s all gone so polished now! Bands. Seriously? Just "bands." That’s all we’re doing here? Give me something to actually work with—I've got a list of favorites longer than a CVS receipt and I'm ready to fight anyone who disagrees.

Go read Georg Gimarc's Punk Diary—it's basically the ultimate trainspotter's guide to Underground Rock from 1970 to 1982—and you'll be just as baffled as I am that he actually included Bow Wow Wow in there. Honestly? He needs to write a sequel immediately. Throw Carter USM and Hüsker Dü in there and just scramble them all together—it'd be just as chaotic!😬

Look, you've read the Georg Gimarc Book, but I've actually listened to the bands we're discussing and made my own judgment. 😁

(I'll admit that "When The Going Gets Tough..." is a solid record, but there's just no way I can force it into my—admittedly massive—vision of punk 🙂)

Look, it’s just a matter of taste—but for me, Carter USM just doesn't cut it. They don't even fit into the broader punk scene, let alone what I'd call tolerable music at all.😁

(Forgive me if I'm repeating things, I just skimmed through the previous posts...) anyway, here are a few of my favorites... Snuff, No Fun At All (their later stuff, "The Big Knockover"), Satanic Surfers, Propagandhi (with a bit of ska), and the unpredictable Good Riddance (California is California, after all🙂), Lagwagon (people always lump them in with Blink-182, though I have no idea why), Screeching Weasel, SNFU, and Tilt... Then there's the German band Die Toten Hosen (even if they aren't really a huge thing around here)... and obviously BAMBIX... Then you've got the legends like Stiff Little Fingers, without whom half these bands wouldn't even exist... classics like Bad Religion always hit the spot... and even Total Chaos has a total pop punk album... plus that whole old British guard (The Boys, Guitar Gangsters, Lurkers, etc.)... As for the local scene, I always fondly remember I don't Think So and >... that's all for now.

Back in '77, Georg Gimarc basically birthed Alternative Rock in San Francisco—one of the first punk radio shows on the planet. It ran for a solid 14 years, and he pulled hundreds of interviews with all the big punk legends. His massive 900-page Book even comes with a bonus CD featuring about 30 of those interviews👍 It's sitting at $15 on Amazon, which is honestly a steal. He also did some punk shows on VH1 with Rotten later on.

But honestly? What really blew my mind about this guy is that his collection includes something like 65,000 albums—mostly punk.🙏

Eh, and since I brought up Rotten, I gotta say—PIL's "Metal Box" is an absolute masterpiece. That record is legendary.😁
