Like, does anyone have any special family remedies passed down through the generations?

I mean, I definitely have some... but I'm not sharing. I guess my posts just go totally unnoticed anyway. 😛

Oh, they don't go unnoticed—I actually brought up your comment specifically because you were the first one to call out that inaccuracy in that first post—you know, the one about how preventing the flu relates to autoimmune diseases.

Anyway, that lady in your apartment building who had those two strokes? She probably went through that because she spent years ignoring high blood pressure without getting any treatment. Seriously, why wouldn't she just get it handled?

By the way, I occasionally use some hydrogen peroxide drops (DuPont) in my ear just to clear out the wax... 🙄 😁

And for real, I haven't had the flu in years. Makes me wonder though... was it the DuPont or maybe the vaccine? 😕 😕 😕

Oh man, you crack me up! 🙂 Don't go poisoning yourself with mercury from a shot! 😉 Maybe next time try using those peroxide drops when you actually feel a cold coming on (since you use them anyway) and we'll see what happens...

Honestly, strike me down right now if she didn't have a blood pressure cuff sitting at home...
I mean, I know she was dropping thousands on those high-end mattresses... so she probably grabbed a blood pressure monitor from $33..

Anyway, I need to vent here just to drag you guys back to the actual topic...
The illness itself matters..

But..

And how people actually deal with being sick..
It’s just wrong when someone makes an illness their whole personality...
Like, imagine me walking into a hospital, sitting there in the waiting room... listening to old ladies go on and on about how "oh, you wouldn't believe how sick I am..." and all that nonsense...
I swear, I'd hand them a deck of cards or a chess set just so they'd shut up about it for five minutes...

Where did that even come from?

It’s a damn shame that people who actually had useful, constructive ideas decided to bail...
I seriously hate it when a topic that could actually be helpful gets hijacked by everyone's stupidity and ego trips...

I’m with you on this. Your mindset regarding sickness matters more than people realize.
How many times have we heard those over-the-top stories about how someone "miraculously" survived some specific ailment...

I seriously hate when a thread that could actually be useful gets derailed by people's sheer stupidity and deep-seated insecurities...

I don't get it—what are you actually looking for here? A thread where the only people showing up are the ones who don't realize the flu isn't an autoimmune disorder?😁

Look, I don't care if you want to go the holistic route or stick to mainstream medicine, do whatever works for you, honestly. But if someone starts posting stuff publicly that I know for a fact is straight-up nonsense, yeah, I'm gonna say something. Sorry if you're taking that personally, but that sounds like a "you" problem...

rustymoose54 said:I honestly don't get you. What's the end goal here? Are we making this a club for people who don't realize the flu isn't an autoimmune disease?😁

Look, I don't care how people choose to treat themselves—whether it's mainstream medicine or some alternative stuff, whatever. It's your life. But when someone stands up and publicly claims something I know for a fact is just plain wrong, I'm going to say something. If you're taking this personally, sorry, but that sounds like a "you" problem.

Oh, please, give it a rest...
I never, and I mean never, said the flu was an autoimmune disease. You just twisted my words into that just so you could have something to play with, which—let’s be honest—is clearly your specialty.
I hope your little "game" provided enough entertainment for you today.

I never—not once, ever— said the flu was an autoimmune disease... you’re the one who twisted my words together just so you could have some little "fun" with it—and honestly, you're kind of a pro at twisting things to suit your needs, aren't you?
I hope this little "game" of yours gave you enough satisfaction for one day.

No, actually, you wrote this:
Alternative ways to treat the flu and boost immunity

I thought it would be good to have a thread like this in the Health section... just so we can all learn how to strengthen our immune systems, beat the flu, and deal with autoimmune disorders.

🙄 🙄 🙄

Look, you messed up—you're certainly not the first person to do it, trust me—but why won't you just admit it, lady? You thought autoimmune disorders were linked to a weakened immune system? WRONG. The only connection is that autoimmune issues result in CHRONIC ILLNESSES, which wear the body down until it becomes "immunocompromised," making it way easier to catch the flu. PLUS, people with chronic conditions are much more likely to deal with nasty flu complications.

But, for the record, NOT all chronic illnesses are autoimmune.

And yeah, I was having a laugh reading some of the funny posts around here. Not yours, though—don't flatter yourself. ☕

I have zero issue with people choosing their own way to heal, whether it's mainstream or alternative—that's your call. But if someone publicly claims something I know for a fact is false, I'm going to speak up. Sorry if you're taking it personally, but that's on you.

Alright, you made your point, but you don't need to repeat it ten times. Either someone's ego just caught the "flu" or they've got an "autoimmune disease."

Guess I definitely said something wrong there. 😁

rustymoose54 said:Steve, you're technically right, but you aren't actually answering driftinggull13's question. A glucose molecule is just a glucose molecule; once it hits the cell, it doesn't matter where it originated.

Go ahead and file a complaint with the City Water Department if you want. 🙂 😁

Of course they aren't the same thing. We aren't talking about an isolated glucose molecule here—we’re talking about a glass of soda versus a slice of whole grain bread.

If you strip them down to a single molecule, sure, maybe they look identical. But come on, how is driftinggull13 supposed to apply that logic to real life? 😂

rustymoose54 said:but you get the exact same result—slower absorption and a more sluggish insulin response—if you pair bread with something heavy on the fats, like 😁

Exactly. That’s why if you’re going to indulge in bacon (which I do with zero regrets 😍 when I'm making my go-to chicken and veggie sandwich on whole grain bread), you should probably knock down a massive salad too. It’s not like the bacon just disappears, but the fiber slows everything down enough that we end up flushing out some of those fats before they even have a chance to turn into glucose molecules. 🙄 😁

Until then, we’re stuck fighting the only way we know how.

We're looking, believe me... 🙄 ...but it doesn't happen overnight.🙂

driftinggull13 said:...but calling it harmful is just plain stupid.

I dig your style, 🙂

driftinggull13 said:Whole grain flour doesn't have much going for it besides a tiny bit more fiber than the refined stuff. At the end of the day, they're both mostly starch. It’s basically the same deal as the whole brown sugar versus white sugar argument.

Blah, blah, blah...

Do a little more homework on grains.

(Side note: brown sugar isn't any better than white; they just pour molasses into it.)😁 😁 😂

driftinggull13 said:Regarding that particular matter, sugar isn't inherently the enemy, provided you don't overdo it, as excessive amounts can cause those sharp spikes in blood glucose levels. If your metabolic system is functioning as it should, insulin and various other biological mechanisms tend to stabilize everything quite rapidly...

If one wishes to avoid causing those sudden "shocks" to their bloodstream equilibrium, the only sensible approach is to consume sweets in strictly minimal quantities. The sheer volume of sugar packed into most modern processed goods far exceeds what could ever be considered a "normal" concentration...
Refined sugar isn't exactly toxic, per se, it just forces the pancreas to work a little harder than it probably should... 😁

Blah, blah, blah... *yawn*

Maybe do a little more homework on grains before jumping to conclusions.

(And just a heads up: brown sugar isn't actually any better than white sugar, it's just white sugar with some molasses dumped back into it)😁 😁 😂

It’s funny because we basically agree on almost everything else. But when it comes to grains and what they're actually made of, you’re definitely going to have to hit the books a bit more. I mean, go ahead and check the ingredient labels on a couple of brands, though if you truly believe that everything eventually just boils down to a single "glucose molecule," then reading those labels is probably a waste of your time... As I was saying, this whole thing is mostly about personal philosophy and how people choose to live their lives 🙂 🙂 🙂, rather than being rooted in actual science or an understanding of physiology—let alone chemistry.😉 😁

White tea. 🙏🙏🙏
It's a tea enthusiast's dream, and honestly, it packs about ten times the antioxidant punch of green tea.
I drink at least half a liter every single day, and while everyone else around me is sneezing and catching colds, I’m out here rocking short sleeves.

Haha... that’s like saying it doesn't matter how you encounter a hundred pounds of steel. It doesn't matter if a steel beam falls on your head from a construction site or if it's sitting right under your feet on the subway tracks—it's still a hundred pounds of steel hitting your body.😂

It’s from a tea plant, but apparently super young—like, ten times more antioxidants than green tea.

What kind of tea even is that? Where do you get it? Is it gross or actually good? Man, tell me everything!
