Just the general glorification of that era makes my liver ache.

And don't even get me started—New Order is an incredibly overrated band.

I couldn't disagree more regarding Floyd. They were absolutely revolutionary back then, and honestly, that alone is enough reason to give them their due. If you don't get it, or if it "hurts" you—well, tough luck! 🙂

As for New Order, you're spot on—they're complete garbage. You seriously can't believe they actually evolved from Joy Division??

Generally speaking, the constant glorification of that era is bad for my liver.

New Order is a massively overrated band.

I am in complete agreement.🙂

We don't really care what you're doing in bed.

Mr. Wrong said:I barely ever listened to Loveless, but whenever I tried, I’d die of boredom by the third track. Never heard Spacemen 3, but Ride... man, Ride. 😍

Yeah, Ride is basically pop... I think I still have some of their stuff lying around. That blue wave/ocean vibe... just pure atmosphere...

Exile on Main St.
It isn’t a bad album, per se, but it certainly isn't the greatest thing The Rolling Stones ever produced, despite what the common consensus seems to be these days. It feels unstructured and frankly quite abrasive, weighed down by an overproduced horn section and far too many lazy blues fills. It’s essentially a double album of chaos—a mess that even a few brilliant, inspired moments can't rescue from the overall drug-fueled disarray.

To me, it feels a bit disorganized and pretty raw, almost like the horn section was overplayed and there are way too many lazy blues fills. It honestly feels like a double dose of chaos that even those few brilliant, inspired moments can't quite rescue from the general drug-fueled messiness.

Oh, come on! 😠

Not Mars Volta—just Franz. I actually dig Mars Volta, too, I guess.🙂
But FF? Not really my thing.

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
Walkabouts - Devil's Road

I've stuck to albums that usually get labeled as the "all-time greats" for these artists—even though, personally, I don't buy it. Don't get me wrong, they're all somewhere between 'decent' and 'really good,' but they aren't the career-defining masterpieces everyone claims they are.

The Rolling Stones are hands down the most overrated rock band ever (though I do dig Exile on Main St.)—but it makes me wonder, why? There must have been some kind of magic in them right before I was born for them to become such a permanent fixture in the collective consciousness.

shadowgardener12 said:Please... just imagine hearing that Barrett solo.

That Barrett solo is a whole different beast. 😁 😁 😁

Let's see...
Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon—honestly, pretty much anything by Floyd...
The usual Sgt. Pepper's stuff
In utero
Pinkerton
That Coldplay album (A Rush of Blood to the Head) that critics loved. Though, they praised a lot of things back then, like Jewel 🙄

I don't really get the hype around Marvin Gaye and "What's Going On." I've got the record, and sure, it's fine, but man, everyone puts it in their top ten greatest albums of all time or even higher. I just can't see what the big deal is...😕

What's Going On is such a killer album, pure Kerouac energy...
his best work, maybe alongside Troubleman.

See? That's how it always goes. Everyone talks it up, but then you're just like, "It's good, but it's not life-changing." Either I'm missing something or people are just getting worked up over nothing. It's that classic Rashomon dilemma where everyone has a different take on what's objective versus subjective. Overrated, underrated, blah blah blah. Someone once mentioned Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is overrated, but to me, it's still one of the most influential albums ever made... You could argue about stuff like this forever.

Loveless said:Alright, let's get into it! We need to put together a list of 10 albums that—in my humble opinion—are way too overrated. But hey, before we dive in, let’s set some ground rules: please, for the love of everything musical, leave stuff like Bon Jovi and Mariah Carey out of this entirely. Seriously, the only people who actually enjoy those are the folks over at Billboard, right? Let's keep it interesting!

Dream Theater - Awake - OK, let’s be honest—we all have that one list of albums we used to blast on repeat, only to feel a little bit embarrassed about them now... I haven't actually spent a ton of time diving into this specific genre—maybe four or five Dream Theater albums at most, which isn't even saying much! I used to be really into The Cranberries too, but man, listening to Dolores O'Riordan now just feels so heavy—especially when she sings those naive lyrics about Sarajevo... and besides, it’s not exactly prog metal, is it?

Look, I’m not saying that Awake is bad—it’s definitely not!—but let’s be honest, their other albums were just way too much to handle sometimes, don't you think?

I’ve gotta say, I really do love R.E.M., but *Document*? Man, that album is just a messy collection of confusing, unmelodic, irritating, and honestly pathetic little tunes. Even tracks like "The One I Love" or "It's the End of the World" couldn't save it for me! I actually tossed my copy of this CD in the trash—honestly, I truly believed it was something nobody would ever need to hear again...

So, let's talk about Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast... honestly, if nothing else, that album cover is just a total disaster! Don't get me wrong—Eddie is an absolute icon and the whole concept behind him is pure genius; but the music itself? Ugh, it’s just awful. I mean, I actually managed to power through about ten seconds of this "classic masterpiece" when my friend decided to blast it at me... but seriously, can we please talk about the artwork?!

I really hope you're just pulling my leg here...!

9. Moby - Play - Look, this isn't a total disaster like some of the other albums mentioned above—it’s definitely got its moments! But honestly? It just doesn't quite hit that top-tier level for me. It’s not quite strong enough to crack my personal top 20 best albums of the nineties, you know? And if it can't make that cut, how am I supposed to justify putting it on my list? 3.7 milesAh, Moby... honestly, he only really nailed two great tracks there. Even though there are twenty-two songs on the Play album—can you believe that? Such a massive tracklist!

I mean, come on... if you only like two Moby songs, what on earth were you even expecting?!

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head - Okay, look, this album isn't bad at all! I mean, Rolling Stone actually named it Album of the Year, so you know there's something there—but then what's the catch? Well, for me, I just couldn't shake the feeling that they were basically playing the same hits U2 had already mastered years ago. Honestly, for a while there, Coldplay felt like the most intense group of copycats out there! Maybe I'm totally off base, or maybe they really are... who knows? That's exactly why they ended up on this list...

[/B]

Good grief, if you're actually going to bother translating this into English, at least have the decency to cite your sources!

Alright, let me jump in here and be a little bit of a contrarian—though, honestly, this is just my personal take on what most people absolutely adore! 😁

I honestly haven't been keeping up with this thread too closely—so sorry if I’m repeating things already said! But man, where do I start? I've got some thoughts on those classics... Like, don't get me wrong, I think Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation is solid, and I'm definitely not saying Pixies' Trompe Le Monde is a bad record—it just feels way more overrated than it deserves to be, you know? And then there's The Offspring's Americana—everyone seems to absolutely worship that one, but personally? I think it's pretty mediocre. Oh, and The Beatles in general? I'm just not feeling it. Plus Clandestino... what can I say? Just my two cents!

7. R.E.M. - Documen - I'm a fan of R.E.M., but Documen is just a collection of confusing, tuneless, irritating, and pathetic little songs. Neither "The One I Love" nor "It's the End of the World" could save it. Honestly, I trashed this CD thinking I’d never need it again...

Oh yeah, someone downloaded some R.E.M. tracks for me once, and I ended up burning them too. 🙂

LOL

Personally, I think Morning Glory is totally fine—but I don't really get the sense that everyone absolutely obsesses over it like they do other classics...

In my estimation, "Is This It" by The Strokes is significantly overrated. To be perfectly honest, I find myself largely indifferent to it. ☕
