Their first album is killer, and I remember the second one being pretty solid too, though it’s been ages since I spun it. I’m definitely going, and I already know a few people I can drag along without thinking twice—even my little brother, and that kid usually only hits up a concert once every five years!

Anyway, uh, Automobili are originally from El Paso... 😉
I think Kameleon, September, and Idiogen were all from the Koper area...

Just Rambo Amedeus... I’d bet there were a few bands floating around back in the sixties, too—though I highly doubt anything actually made it to tape. I think I heard a rumor that there are some local groups playing around there these days.

I don't know much about the music scene in the North America... I've got a compilation of various festivals from the Midwest on my drive with one track by Miladin Šobić and an mp3 of some stuff by the Monteniggers. Those guys, aside from having a killer name, might be the only rap or hip-hop—whatever you want to call it—group from that whole region besides TBF that I’d actually dig... if that makes sense. If I remember Janjatović's encyclopedia correctly (which I'll finally get back tonight), they were a duo and both have passed away, one of them I think died from AIDS?

Oh right, I completely blanked on Sobica. I actually picked up the "Umjesto glupost" LP recently—and honestly, if that doesn't count as rock 'n' roll, then I don't know what does. In my book, Aleksandar Mezek is the very definition of rock 'n' roll.

From what I can tell, Sobica is your classic singer/songwriter type. And honestly, that just means genre definitions are always pretty shaky... they can drift toward ballads, jazz, or even easy listening... Both Sobica and Mezek have always been lumped into that American pop-rock scene, which was never really clearly separated from the softer stuff anyway. Though, I get how it’s confusing sometimes. Like, Darak Domijan's first album is basically classic symphonic-folk, while the first Srebrn krilo Power pop felt more like that Suzy Quatro/Sweet vibe... There just aren't any hard lines to draw.

Just to clear up what I was saying before: the Gast'rbajt'rsi are basically the same crew as the Demolition Group, those guys from Cerklje, just a short drive out from Columbus on the road heading toward Kostanjevica.

I’m guessing when the OP says "from around here," they mean the area around the capital city out toward the border.

What logic is that even following? Usually, when someone uses the phrase "from around here," everyone knows exactly what they're talking about.

1. Look, I'm not from the capital—nor am I some huge fan of the city—but if I'm not mistaken, I think that place produced way more legendary bands from the old region... but hey, who knows.

2. Sarajevo and New York City—though you can't really compare them, but in this context, I feel like they're on equal footing (and again, that's just my take)🙂 )
