Goldman Sachs said:. This 56-day streak—it’s honestly terrifying how much it looks like a real human being... I don't think any sane person could ever dream of cutting someone's life line like that.

.

Nobody. Only pure lunatics and absolute monsters are capable of doing something like this. 🙄 ☕

I agree that women should have the right to choose. However, I believe that choice should happen before the act, rather than after the fact when facing an abortion. If people took a moment to consider the potential consequences of their actions beforehand, the need for abortions would be significantly diminished. Everyone seems focused on dealing with the outcome instead of addressing the root cause. It is always better to prevent a problem than to try to fix it later.

Here is my perspective. To truly understand why those of us who oppose abortion advocate for the government to ban the practice and eliminate the "option" altogether, you have to look at the fundamental role of the state.

Think about it this way: when someone is standing on the edge of a bridge over the Mississippi River, contemplating jumping, or if they are in a dark room considering self-harm, the state has a moral obligation to intervene and prevent it. I view abortion through that same lens—as an act of suicide or, quite frankly, a criminal act. It is something a "productive member" of a civilized society simply should not be doing. If the primary duty of the government is to prevent murder, then by extension, it must also work to prevent abortion. That is how I frame the logic.

Do I condemn abortion? And do I condemn the person performing it? Absolutely. I condemn it with the same moral clarity that I condemn murder, theft, or blatant deception.

I realize that those who share my view aren't exactly following the crowd. Just because everyone else decides to speed through a school zone doesn't mean I have to join them in reckless driving. We hold onto a vision of a better, more principled life. Just because we find ourselves currently "knee-deep in the mud" doesn't mean we should abandon our principles or the conclusions we've reached based on them.

I realize you’re feeling all sorts of things right now—it’s natural, given you’re about to become a father—
but honestly, that statement is a bit much, don't you think?

What if we're talking about a case involving sexual assault, or any number of other horrific tragedies?

Goldman Sachs said:It’s simply not true that the procedure is reversible for men. There is only about a 45% chance of success. That is why you really need to think long and hard before deciding on a vasectomy!

Well, what's the actual harm if it isn't reversible? 😁

The real issue—if there is one—is just how incredibly difficult it is to find a man willing to go through with it in the first place, ;-)

Isn't there some silly regulation here in the States regarding this? I seem to recall something about men not being allowed to do it unless they already have, say, four kids or some similar requirement... I can't quite remember if there is an age limit involved too,

It felt like Matthew Sullivan32 was being a little sarcastic in that last post of his.

Or am I just misreading the situation? 😁 ☕

Carl Hernandez2 said:I figure people who view abortion the way I do just don't operate like the masses. Just because everyone else is speeding down the highway doesn't mean I have to floor it too...

Come on, that’s a bit of a stretch if you ask me. 😬

Plus, based on your logic, since opponents of abortion are in the minority, it's perfectly fine to allow it just because the majority decides—which isn't something that bothers me at all.

Just because "everyone else is doing it" doesn't mean you have to join in, but then again, most people actually *do* join in. 😁

So fine, you drive slow, stay out of the fray, and you'll never have any issues with abortion. 🙄

I have this nagging feeling—perhaps just my own intuition playing tricks on me—that Matthew Sullivan32 was being a bit ironic in that last post.

Or am I completely off base here? 😁 ☕

Hmm, well, an eye roll can certainly be interpreted in more than one way, can't it? 😁

Carl Hernandez2 said:If someone is looking to jump into the Mississippi River or slit their wrists, the government has a duty to stop them. I view abortion as nothing less than suicide or a criminal act—something a "normal member" of society simply shouldn't be doing. Since the state is responsible for preventing murder, it should also be preventing abortion.

Except abortion isn't a crime, so you can spin it however you want.

Another thing: I wouldn't even try to stop someone who wants to end their own life. If you want to die, then go ahead. It’s your life and your call. Besides, anyone who is actually determined to kill themselves will find a way when the time comes.

By the way, I had no idea suicide was illegal. What, if I kill myself, are my parents going to get slapped with a fine? 🤣

And that whole thing about the police showing up when someone is suicidal... please. That’s like calling the fire department because your cat is stuck in a tree. ☕

***

If we’re going to ban abortion, let's just roll out martial law immediately too. Because if you live in a country where you don't even have the right to choose, then it's hardly a "democratic or liberal" nation anymore. 🙄

***

One more thing. I get the distinct impression that people condemning abortion are really just condemning the women who undergo it. Basically, a father who doesn't want the child is held blameless. You see some guy say he doesn't want kids, then he goes out and shoots his girlfriend, telling her to deal with the consequences while he refuses to lift a finger to help the baby... what do you all think of men like that? Sure, no matter how terrible they are or what they do, they aren't murderers. 🙄Which means they can be the biggest losers on the planet, but in your eyes, they'll always be better than an unborn mother.

Megan Reed said:One more thing. I generally get the impression that those who condemn abortion only seem to target the women making the choice. For instance, if a father doesn't want the child, he isn't technically at fault or obligated. He just decides he doesn't want to be a parent, leaves the woman to handle it alone, and wouldn't lift a finger even if the child were born... what’s your take on men like that?

And what about the reverse? Say a woman gets pregnant unexpectedly, the man wants the child, but she doesn't. Based on your logic, it seems you assume all men are inherently responsible for staying and providing once they've conceived (which feels like a rather one-sided, stereotypical view). Real life is rarely that black and white.

Look, you're missing the point here... I'm asking a very specific question, and you're hitting me back with these broad generalizations. I'm not asking about when a man wants a woman to keep the kid; I'm asking about what he DOESN'T WANT?

Do you get what I'm saying? That's the actual question. That's what I'm trying to dig into. What's the actual stance there?

In that case,
if a woman finds herself struggling with conflicting feelings about pregnancy—really torn internally—it can lead to quite a few complications during the term and even after the baby arrives. Sometimes, you might find that seeking support from a psychologist, or even a psychiatrist, becomes necessary to navigate those waters.

Ultimately, it all comes down to how resilient their relationship is.

So, here’s how I see it...

#1 A woman gets pregnant, she doesn't want the baby, he doesn't want the baby, so she has an abortion. Fine. She posts about it online, and he plays the victim.

#2 A woman gets pregnant, she wants the baby, he doesn't want the baby, so she keeps it. She becomes a single mother. 😁

#3 A woman gets pregnant, she wants the baby, he wants the baby, so she keeps it. Everything works out perfectly. 😍

#4 [And this is probably the most sensitive scenario] A woman gets pregnant, she doesn't want the baby, but he does. What happens then? You can't exactly chain her to the bed until she gives birth just so you can take the child afterward. Or can you? 😬

I'm stuck on that first scenario. What kind of guy is he? Is he going to end up in hell for betraying a soul like that? 😢 😈

No, no, no.

Look, here’s how it actually works:

A woman who gets pregnant and decides she wants an abortion is being framed as some kind of loose woman who was sleeping around with the first guy she met; because she didn't think things through beforehand, she now has to deal with the consequences, effectively becoming a killer—and you can slap whatever labels you want on her.

I’m just asking how we’re supposed to label the guy she got pregnant with—the one who also sleeps around without thinking about the fallout, refuses to step up as a father, and is perfectly fine with her having an abortion? What do we call him? 😍

Tupac Shakur said:So, according to you, it's just a given that every single guy who gets a woman pregnant is definitely gonna bail? I guess that’s your typical feminist take—just all women are victims and men are trash. Real life isn't really that black and white, though.

yeah, sure; and i guess trash feminists are popping up everywhere too.😳

That’s all I have to say to that. As far as I'm concerned, you guys can keep going with this mindless back-and-forth; I highly doubt I’ll ever get a straight answer to my actual question. 🙂 It’s always the same story when people run out of real arguments... 🙄
