Well, calling it "the worst concert of the year" feels a bit harsh, I suppose. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say it was a show at KSET M. Ward where I felt a constant, nagging urge to direct my irritation toward the people chatting incessantly in the back rows. That seems fairer. I don't particularly care for the opinion of the individual who chose to take personal swipes at my physical appearance, anyway...

They were supposed to play a show in Chicago, but then the drummer got sick (drummers always find a way to ruin everything 😁)... personally, I think "Kolo" is actually a pretty solid album.. :/

They’re easily the worst when you look at how they compared themselves to Tom Waits on the Flyer!
I mean, who do they think they are?
😕

Animal Collective weren't really my favorite, but man, that concert was phenomenal.

Oh man, they were absolute legends!
though I guess Destroyer felt kind of lackluster after them.

Notwist, really?😍 You seem to forget we spent our entire first night obsessed with them.😳 No idea why, honestly.

Jamie Stewart’s sound is basically a heavy blow to the gut compared to someone like Marcus Adderley. 🙂

Alright then! 👍
Though, I guess a scrap between Jamie and the big guy from Animal Collective would be more interesting.

Best: Notwist (first day)
Worst: Atheist Rap at the local concert hall—I usually dig them, but man, that was rough. I just can't get into that venue; the vibe there is totally off, or maybe it’s just lacking any kind of energy altogether.

Steven Hernandez9 said:Yeah, tell me about it.🙄 It’s like asking for the "worst concert of the year" is some kind of scientific study where everyone has to agree with your heavenly musical taste or whatever. For me, The Album Leaf was easily the worst show of the year, mostly because I just don't think they're any good. They've got tracks that are just plain bad and super boring.

I don't know, man, this whole "only one genre is good" thing you've got going on feels a little bit like teenage angst to me...
The Album Leaf actually has some killer stuff that isn't boring at all... honestly, Tristeza was the one that felt dull.

I only pull that kind of logic out when I'm dealing with certain types of people hanging out on these forums.

Someone's still stuck in their moody teenage phase, huh?😉

I mean, boredom is pretty subjective, I guess.

And why are you coming at me about being a teenager—just wait until winter hits, I might just set your hat on fire.🙂>

Steven Hernandez9 said:Honestly, I don't really care what that other guy thinks about my physical flaws or whatever—I’m not exactly out here trying to win any bodybuilding competitions anyway...

...but man, what "that other guy" said actually stung so much I probably won't be sleeping for the next week...🙄>

Robin Booth said:I suppose being so precious about specific genres feels a bit like adolescent posturing...

And personally, I find your attempt to deny others their own taste to be somewhat... authoritarian in tone...

One last thing; I find The Album Leaf to be quite tedious. So does Tarwater, and Logh, for that matter. If you feel that those three observations—which are really all you know about my musical preferences—are sufficient to pass judgment on my delicate mental state, then I suppose that is entirely your issue. A rather significant one, I might add...

Steven Hernandez9 said:Honestly, you trying to dictate what I should like feels a little... borderline authoritarian, if you ask me...

Man, nobody is forcing anything on you, but let's be real—I haven't seen you vibe with anything that doesn't have some American soul in it, even just a hint, at least when it comes to the shows you're talking about...

Steven Hernandez9 said:Last time I'm saying this: The Album Leaf is boring to me. So is Tarwater. And Logh. If you think those three things—which are basically all you know about my music taste—are enough to judge my entire psyche, then that's on you. A pretty big lapse in judgment, honestly...

Look, Tarwater actually puts out some solid records, though their live sets aren't exactly...
Logh is straight-up bottom tier.

And hey, no biggie, because I'm not sitting here in the dark overanalyzing your "taste."😉

The best were Marylin Crispell, Carnegie Hall, and Ljub Brotzmann-McPhee 4 at KSET
M. Ward, KSET

I generally avoid shows if I suspect they might be underwhelming, and honestly, the Dirtybombs at KSET was one of those nights where the energy just wasn't there... it felt like that gritty Detroit garage sound, but without much to show for it, as if they left all the soul back in the garage

elwuss said:Look, nobody is taking anything away from you, but I haven't really seen you enjoy anything that doesn't have an American influence in it—even if it's just a trace—at least when it comes to the concerts you're reviewing...

I suppose that isn't much of an issue; I generally tend to favor things that possess even a slight American touch. This is fairly evident in my list of favorite shows this year, though I did attend plenty of others that lack that specific influence. If I happen to mention that one of those other shows was boring, then I guess, according to your logic, I am "somewhat tone-deaf" or "stuck in a juvenile phase regarding genres," or some such thing...😕

Whether or not that constitutes a problem is perhaps something better left for the readers of this thread to decide.😉

Oh, and one more thing; I would suggest to the forum moderators that they change the name of the 🙄 emoticon to :elwuss:

🙄 😁
