Coca-Cola Light doesn't cause weight gain, nor is it some kind of poison..

driftinggull13 said:1. There’s hardly any phosphoric acid in Coca-Cola—it’s not the same thing as dumping pure acid into your mouth and calling it a drink.
2. Your teeth are constantly being rinsed by saliva, which acts as a buffer against that acidity.
3. Coca-Cola doesn't stay in contact with your teeth long enough—you wouldn't compare holding your palm over a candle for half a second to holding it there for twenty.
The bottom line: the impact on your teeth is negligible... the contact time between the acid and your enamel (which, by the way, isn't calcium chloride) is too short, the concentration of phosphoric acid is too low, and your saliva protects the enamel.

As for people claiming "it used to hurt my teeth, but now I'm fine"—I'm not going to waste my breath on that nonsense. My conclusion is pretty much the same as this:
The last time I actually won a bet on a football game, we were in the middle of local elections... so I guess I'll just wait for the next election cycle before I see another win at the sportsbook.

Look, anyone who wants to justify drinking garbage will find every possible scientific 😉 study to back them up. I have a medical professional in my house who has a completely different take on all of this. Oh, and I haven't had heartburn since I quit drinking COL years ago.🙂 For me, Coca-Cola is the very last thing I'd ever put in my body, maybe after a solid meal... but hey, long live Dingac. 😎

Sure, maybe it won't put on pounds directly. But honestly? So many people I know who live on diet soda just can't seem to drop the weight. And that whole "it's not toxic" thing... well, let's just say it's definitely not good for you. No doubt about that part...

I have a medical professional in my house who thinks the exact opposite about all this stuff. Oh, and for what it's worth, I haven't dealt with heartburn since I quit drinking Coca-Cola a few years back. 🙂 As far as I'm concerned, Coca-Cola is probably the last thing anyone should be shoving down their throat, maybe after a massive meal, but honestly, I'd much rather have a glass of Dingac 😎

Look, you’re missing the point entirely... it’s not about whether you can hunt down some random study to justify drinking junk, it’s about whether any actual proof even exists. This whole thread started because people are obsessed with how dangerous Diet Coke is, and half these people acting like it's literal poison clearly don't know the first thing about biology, chemistry, or physiology... claiming Diet Coke is toxic is just scientifically wrong. And I'm not even talking about taste here. For instance, heavy fruit juice gives me terrible heartburn, but I'm not going to claim it's "toxic" just because it messes with my stomach. Or take fish—everyone knows it's healthy, but I think it's disgusting and won't touch it, but that doesn't make it a toxin. A lot of people are just attacking Diet Coke because they hate the taste, or worse, they just have a grudge against Americans and the US, and half these threads are basically just fueled by that spite...
By the way, I don't actually drink Coca-Cola products at all.😉 I'm not much of a wine guy either. I'm more into wheat beers or a dark stout, and when I'm thirsty, I'll just stick to tap water...😁

Oh, look at him go, acting like he hasn't read any of the previous posts... Where on earth are you getting these two claims from? First, the idea that a bunch of people drinking soda can't lose weight
b) and second, the claim that it's inherently harmful to your health.
Which specific ingredient is supposedly blocking weight loss for a hundred years, and which part exactly is the toxin?
I mean, are you just pulling these opinions out of thin air or what? Unbelievable...

😂Damn! Fight...fight...

I heard someone say you can actually eat rust off a bolt using nothing but Coca-Cola. Is there any truth to that?? If so, we’re looking at a top-tier anti-corrosive agent right there. Forget WD-40. 😁

I heard somewhere that you can actually use Coca-Cola to eat right through rust on a bolt or something... is that even legit?? Because if it is, we’re basically looking at a killer anti-corrosion hack right there. Forget WD-40... 😁

It works, sure, but honestly, plain old club soda is probably cheaper if you're trying to do the same thing.😉

I'm not exactly a wine connoisseur myself

But honestly, you kind of brought this on yourself 😁

Here’s a little something for anyone who isn't a fan of Coca-Cola

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Co...-Cola_formula. Not to mention how great it is that toddlers—most of whom are already hitting up McDuck for a snack—are basically fueled by caffeine at two or three years old...

From that link (and just so we're clear, it mentions most urban legends about Coke are actually false, so I'm not just cherry-picking facts here)

Studies have shown that regular soft drink users have a lower intake of calcium (which can contribute to osteoporosis), magnesium, ascorbic acid, riboflavin, and vitamin A.

Here’s some reading material for anyone who thinks they’re too good for Coca-Cola...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Co...-Cola_formula. Not to mention how absolutely wonderful it is that toddlers—we're talking two or three years old, kids who basically live on caffeine because their parents hit up McDonald's for a quick meal—are just sipping away on all that caffeine...

The site also mentions that most of the stuff you hear about Coca-Cola is just urban legends, mostly because I don't want to look like I'm cherry-picking facts just to make a point...

Studies have shown that regular soft drink users have a lower intake of calcium (which can contribute to osteoporosis), magnesium, ascorbic acid, riboflavin, and vitamin A.

http://www.newstarget.com/003228.html

Oh, give me a break!! Seriously?! Is coffee bad for you? Is whiskey bad? What about wine? Or beer? Just go ahead, hand one of those to a toddler, maybe a two or three-year-old, and let's see if we can actually decide whether Coca-Cola is "worse" than everything else on that list...
And regarding the second part, pay attention to the fact that it says *CAN*... 😉

fanbase said:So, let's wrap this whole thing up.

Basically:
1. It doesn't make you gain weight as much as regular stuff does—so, no. But it’s actually worse for your body than the real deal because of all those artificial sweeteners like aspartame and cyclamate.

2. Just stick to the regular version.

🙂

So that's your final verdict, huh?

I think there are a few of us in this thread who see things completely differently... but since our take is based on actual chemistry and biochemistry, and you're basically just "making it up as you go," as driftinggull13 would say, I guess you're totally right...

driftinggull13 said:Oh, give me a break... seriously? Is coffee bad for you? Is bitters harmful? Is wine dangerous? Is beer toxic? Just go ahead—offer any of that to a two or three-year-old and let's see if a Coca-Cola isn't actually more damaging than everything else on that list...
Part two—this time, let's focus on that word: *can*...😉

I shared those links just for the hell of it—I'm pretty sure you didn't take them seriously either... As for that analogy you used, it doesn't really hold water. Kids aren't exactly knocking back shots of absinthe every afternoon, but they'll drink Coca-Cola without a second thought. And honestly, that’s exactly why the propaganda works so well. Nobody views Coca-Cola as being bad for kids because, at the end of the day, it's just "juice"... 🙄 How many times have I seen a three-year-old being handed a glass of wine? Or maybe a coffee? Never. Not once. But if you look at how often kids are given Coca-Cola, you’ll see it happening every single day... It's because our whole perception of what Coca-Cola actually is has been warped. It’s become this domestic staple, something familiar—it practically triggers childhood nostalgia. You really ought to read Fast Food Nation—and no, it isn't some tabloid trash, it was written by one of your own colleagues...
I personally find Coca-Cola to be pretty bad news—even for adults—whereas a decent glass of wine or a good beer isn't nearly as problematic. If you knock back two liters of a solid Cabernet, you might end up feeling a little buzzed, but you aren't going to deal with the stomach issues or the tooth decay... Try drinking two liters of Coca-Cola all at once and just compare the aftermath. But honestly, putting aside all the health concerns, I still can't wrap my head around how anyone actually finds that stuff tasty? It’s just a weird mixture of coloring and artificial sweeteners... 😕

I honestly feel like you, driftinggull13, and VF have already pointed out the flaws in your logic several times now—so I really don't get why you're digging your heels in... it's just confusing.

It seems like maybe you're the only one who actually gets why sticking to regular soda is better than the light stuff, especially when you consider the actual risks of the aspartame used in diet drinks.

And as for you bringing up my college degree like it's somehow an issue? Honestly, that sounds more like a "you" problem!

Rachel Brooks63, you’d honestly be better off just sticking to your farm and those bulls... sounds like there's more your kind of chemistry out there.

And you're only gaining weight because of all that Coca-Cola... no matter how you slice it.☕

fanbase said:It’s not the fact that you have a degree that bothers me... 😵 It’s just how much you love to flaunt it... Look, my stance is that aspartame—especially when mixed with cyclamates—is way worse for you than actual sugar. So, since you’re clearly the resident chemistry expert, enlighten me. WHY AM I WRONG?

And why would regular be better? For god's sake, it contains real sugar, which is exactly the point I was making. Plus, it actually tastes good...

You don't need a PhD to realize that if you're forced to choose between regular Coca-Cola and the light version, the regular one is the lesser of two evils. (Disclaimer, I'm not sure about diabetics, so disregard that part). Rachel Brooks63, you're the same person who claimed cooking in a pressure cooker—let's say an Instant Pot—might be unhealthy, and even though you had no proof, you still wouldn't want to risk it. Just accept the analogy here...
I think soda could be unhealthy, and personally, I wouldn't gamble with my stomach. Just like you're wary of soup made in a pressure cooker, some people just stay away from Coca-Cola. As for which one is "healthier," the conclusion isn't exactly hard to reach... even without a degree.
And as a chemist, you really should know how flimsy aspartame is... it's a pretty ugly molecular structure, even as a rough sketch...

Good grief, seriously, where on earth do people like you even come from... how can someone be overweight when they're drinking something with practically zero calories? A farm? Bulls? Better chemistry? Honestly, if I could actually follow this unique train of thought you've got going, I'd probably be famous by now...

fan:
Aspartame is one thing, cyclamate is another, and putting them together creates something else entirely. Where is that combination even found in Diet Coca-Cola? Maybe try pulling less stuff out of thin air and using some actual data instead, especially regarding that specific combo...

young.but.dead said:It has less sugar than regular soda, but it’s still poison. You’d be better off drinking booze—try some wormwood instead.👍

There isn't a single gram of sugar or any actual nutrients/calories in there, but the rest of the "junk" factor is just as bad.😁

Bottom line: it won't make you gain weight. You could actually starve to death if you tried to live off nothing but this stuff.😁

driftinggull13 said:QUESTION: why are Americans, along with more and more people globally, becoming overweight?
...It’s not exactly poison, but it’s definitely harmful!
..Caffeine (which is common knowledge) strips calcium... and flushes fluids from your system, taking valuable minerals and vitamins along with it! (That’s why you really need to drink a glass of mineral water alongside your coffee)
...Phosphorus is what makes kids who drink Coca-Cola hyperactive... and it isn't just children!
On top of that—aspartame—is sweet, which automatically triggers the body to process the other sugars already in your system...! Once that happens, you naturally end up craving sweets or electrolytes... because, just like salt, our bodies need sugar to function properly... almost like fuel for an engine...
Aspartame nearly cost me my life... once I stopped using aspartame and saccharin, I dropped 5 pounds automatically!... Now I only use real sugar—in moderation! (less than half a teaspoon)... Drink regular Coca-Cola if it's your treat, but watch your health and your figure; focus more on the amount of fats and oils you consume!
Best, 👋

It’s unbelievable how much "medical" nonsense you can read on here. 🙄

dora said:Look, it's not some lethal poison.

Here’s the deal.
My own experience and why I finally quit drinking that garbage.
Basically, I had this one glass with some nasty sludge sitting halfway up the bottom. I scrubbed that crap with everything under the sun, including—get this—Clorox.
That stubborn residue wouldn't budge. I even tried soaking the glass in water mixed with Clorox—nothing.
I wanted to toss the glass, but I actually liked it. That’s why I worked so hard to get the gunk out.
But I didn't throw it away; I kept it.
Then, back when I was constantly drinking Coca-Cola, a bottle broke. There was a little bit of Coca-Cola left, so I poured it into that same glass from before 😁(the one with the gunk).
Within a few hours, that Coca-Cola—which everyone claims isn't "that unhealthy"—dissolved that entire layer of sludge. Think about that: the residue that even Clorox couldn't touch was melted away by a soda people gulp down every single day! It's unbelievable.

As for the doctor. My cardiologist told me I was underweight and a total nutcase because I don't eat meat. Total nonsense, right? Is that the ultimate truth? Not necessarily. Now, that doesn't prove my theory about Coca-Cola, but it certainly doesn't help the argument that it's a "fine" drink.

My other issue is with Diet Coke. One time, after just three small sips, I broke out in hives all over my body and face. It was unreal. Normally, I have an iron constitution, and yeah, it was 100% caused by the Coca-Cola. Even the label on that Diet Coke crap warns you not to consume more than a liter a day—and if the manufacturer is actually warning you, you know it's bad...

And now someone is trying to tell me this stuff is okay to drink? Sure, it won't kill you instantly, but I see zero reason to put it in my body. There are no vitamins, no minerals, nothing useful.
It's trash.

I've heard this story at least fifty times in different versions, including the one where you drop a piece of steak in some Cola overnight and it's gone by morning. Come on, dora, stop pulling our legs; you sound like old ladies gossiping on a porch. 😁
You probably just used a different glass. 😁
