So, a doctor friend of mine mentioned she was at this medical conference recently where they were discussing tanning beds. Apparently, it's been proven they cause skin cancer. But they aren't allowed to go public with it yet because the whole tanning industry lobby would collapse and people would freak out. I guess they'll start making noise about it pretty soon though.

That's what she told me, anyway. She's probably lying—and I guess I am too! 😁

That's her story! She's totally making it up—just like I do sometimes! 😁

Honestly, that isn't exactly breaking news... it's been common knowledge for ages that too much UV exposure can lead to melanoma.

Not exactly, but we're talking specifically about tanning beds... I heard they might actually get banned soon...

Tanning beds have actually been used for quite a while now as a way to treat psoriasis and a few other skin conditions, since that kind of UV exposure isn't all that different from natural UVA rays you get outside.

But, let’s be real—they are definitely harmful.

Even just getting a heavy dose of sunlight during an outdoor event can be pretty damaging. I honestly don't think anything is worth overdoing, and that goes for tanning beds too. Anyway, maybe I'll be regretting this decision in a few years...

I’ve been hunting through the forums looking for a thread like this, but everything seemed empty. I was actually about to reach out to someone for help—if you don't mind me asking, why was it removed? 😠 —when I finally stumbled upon this. What a find. 👍
This is officially my first favorite thread. 😍 😁

I'm heading back for another round tomorrow. Should I go with 7 or 10 minutes? 😬

So, where are you guys hitting up for tanning? I’m planning to head in this week—currently torn between that new spot over on Sunset Boulevard or the one in Times Square.

I'm hanging out at Savannah. Ladies, how many minutes? 😬

Sophia Castillo35, how did your skin react after that five-minute mark? If everything seemed fine, go ahead and bump it up to ten. But if you noticed any redness, stinging, or any other irritation—you know the drill—then stick to seven, or maybe even drop back down to five. So, how was the reaction?

Yeah, but we're talking about tanning beds specifically. It doesn't really matter how long you're in there. They're just inherently bad. But hey, if someone wants to go for it, that's on them...😁

Ever since I read that, I haven't been able to relax in a tanning salon. I went this morning, but honestly? I couldn't stop thinking about skin cancer.

I mean, the fix is pretty easy—just don't go to the tanning salon! 😁

Btw, I'm a guy. 😉 But this doctor at the seminar was totally shaken up and against tanning; she said she wouldn't even dream of using a UV bed because it's just awful. I probably wouldn't go anyway, but still...🙂 She mentioned they might practically ban them soon! She was like, "Watch out," and I guess I just felt like I should share that with everyone.😁 😉

When I can't even manage to get a tan. Honestly, it’s more embarrassing to spend the whole summer looking this pale. I need to sit back and think about whether things are just going to keep breaking like this. I wish they'd just release the update already so we could be done with it.

Everything was fine, no changes at all. I went with 10. And things are okay now. I'm doing it again on Monday. Honestly, it’s getting a bit annoying having to do this so frequently 😬 Should I stick with ten again? (Yeah, yeah, I know I'm being tedious—it's just that I'm still figuring out the process...) 🙂 don't judge me 🙂

We won't 🙂 but maybe it isn't the smartest move to head out that frequently. How much longer do you actually have to get that paint job finished?

restlesstiger31 said:I'm not saying don't 🙂 but maybe going that often isn't the best move. How long do you actually need to tan?

The owner at the tanning salon told me to go every couple of days until I hit my goal color (I've been sticking to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and then just switch to once a week for maintenance. I’m aiming to be done by the 28th. After that, I'm hanging up the UV lamp for good.🙂

It’s not just about avoiding doing it every couple of days, either; you really ought to give your skin at least 48 hours to recover between tanning sessions. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't go more than twice a week, and even then, I'd only do it a handful of times... you definitely don't want to overdo it.
