amberorca192 said:given the components in this build—it’s clearly a budget setup—one would assume that power supply didn't cost more than $50, so you're lucky if the system stays stable at all. Attempting to overclock with a unit like that is asking for trouble; the PSU could easily fail and take the rest of your hardware down with it, which is hardly a sound investment.

People, particularly those lacking technical foresight, tend to overlook the importance of the power supply; seeing "400W" on a box makes them think they've struck gold. While 400W is a decent amount of power, a high-quality 400W unit isn't going to go for $50, but rather closer to $100.

That is true. Cheap units are often bundled with the case for $167.
As for me, I'll stick to what works; my setup runs just fine.
However, since I tend to overclock my CPU, GPU, and RAM, my system certainly demands a higher voltage draw.

Since we are on the subject of power supplies, what would you recommend?
And what wattage should I be looking at?

There you go, plain and simple.👍

And how much wattage?

Anything over 300W...$133

Look, everyone I know talks nothing but high praise about that power supply.🙂

So, how long before I can finally offload this MS? Not looking to get some ridiculous, unrealistic price or anything, but I’m hoping to get enough of a foundation to put toward something actually decent...

rustydriver22 said:So, what’s a fair price to dump this MS at? I'm not looking for some crazy high number, just enough to build a little nest egg for something better...

MS industrial?

Hmm... if you're selling it, whatever you do, don't sell it to a buddy. You don't want to lose a friend over a bad deal, right?

Anyway, let me jump in here and get back on topic for a second...

I just finished a massive overclocking session on my Intel Core 2 Duo (2.8 GHz)

Here’s where things stand right now:

CPU: 4.1 GHz @ 1.4V
FSB: 1174 MHz (I've got an unlocked processor, so I bumped the default FSB from 1066)
RAM: 880MHz @ 2.2V (one pair is A-data and the other is Crucial, both rated at 667MHz)

I've been surfing the web totally stable for about 20 minutes now, 😬but I really need to throw a heavy load at this thing to see how it actually holds up.

As for the power supply, I'll be dropping an OCZ PowerStream 600W into the rig later tonight or sometime tomorrow just to give myself some room for upgrades.😁

If it isn't broken, don't fix it, right? It's doing its job just fine...

Look, if that thing happens to fry and takes the rest of your rig down with it, don't come crying to me. 🤣

And honestly, I’m hoping it isn't actually THAT bad... It's not like I'm trying to power a whole data center with it either...

It’s not THAT bad, don't sweat it... Besides, amberorca192 mentioned he’s got one sitting in his other rig at home, and if it were actually that terrible, he would've tossed it right out the window... 😁
