"I was on the verge of calling the race. I can't say whether one or two more tire failures would have been enough to pull that trigger, but it was certainly weighing on my mind," the Formula 1 race director revealed, adding: "We've never seen a situation like this with the tires before. We've had other reasons for drivers having to retire or pit for repairs, but this level of tire chaos is unprecedented in the history of Formula 1. It’s too early to draw definitive conclusions, but the FIA must investigate Pirelli's tires following these failures."

Everyone sees what's happening, yet it seems nobody is lifting a finger to actually fix it. Honestly, why doesn't the FIA just grant all teams three days of testing? That might actually solve this nightmare of tire blowouts. If Pirelli fails to improve their products, Charlie Whiting has already hinted at the possibility of race cancellations. The circus just keeps rolling on. 👋

The circus only exists because of Ferrari, Lotus, and FI...
If they weren't constantly whining about these damn tire issues, none of this would even be an issue.

He can talk all he wants, but if anyone has shown true composure and stability under pressure in recent races, it's Sebastian Vettel.☕
Webber, Alonso, Hamilton, and Button all lost their cool in situations like that—every single one of them.

Go ahead and talk all you want, but don't forget how Lewis Hamilton played it at the end of the 2007 and 2008 seasons...
Then there's Webber in Korea and Abu Dhabi. After that, feel free to push whatever theory you want about how Marko set him up to hit a wall...
And of course, let's not forget how much trouble he caused behind the safety car. Though, to be fair, he absolutely killed it in those final races of the 2007 and 2012 seasons...
I don't even think I need to explain Jenson Button's second half of the 2009 season.

At the end of the day, the only ones who actually stayed cool and grit their teeth when the title fight got real over the last few seasons were Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, and Massa.☕

Whether they're crying at home because the media or some fans hate them, or if they're just laughing the whole thing off—who cares?
What matters is what they show on the track when it actually counts.☕

Fernando Alonso didn't show composure in 2007 and 2012? I don't recall seeing any signs of nerves or restlessness from him. He drove both races equally mediocre, but I wouldn't say nervousness was the reason. In critical moments during both races, he stayed perfectly calm. The fact that Alonso generally struggles in Brazil is a completely different issue; he's never really shined there.

Actually, it seems to me that out of everyone on the grid, Alonso is the one with the coolest head. Besides, that's been his reputation since the start of his career.
Vettel definitely shares those traits and clearly functions well under pressure. Hamilton is obviously the weakest link among the elite drivers in that regard.
In fact, that—along with his frequent loss of focus—is Hamilton's biggest weakness. It's also the reason why he isn't the best driver in the world, even if he is arguably the fastest.

Maybe it wasn't nerves, but he was definitely driving way below his actual level...
If he had been biting harder like he did during those last few laps at Silverstone, he might have actually stood a chance at a podium...

As for Lewis Hamilton, I'm with you—he's easily the weakest one out there right now.

And that’s exactly the point. You push when you can. If he could have pushed, he would have. We're just people watching on TV; we aren't in any position to claim we know why someone chooses to dig in or why they don't, or whether they even have the capacity to do so.

The best example of this was last year's Abu Dhabi and Fernando Alonso's pursuit of Kimi Raikkonen. Why was he chasing him then and risking the championship? Some people will claim he was playing it safe in places like the US or Korea... that's just nonsense. Either Alonso is an idiot who takes random risks, or the spectators are idiots for claiming he's calculating his moves.

Either way, somebody's an idiot.

I don't see why anyone would call Alonso an idiot just because he knows how to calculate his moves...
The guy has a specific style, and that exact style earned him two world titles... damn it, Kimi didn't play the numbers game, and maybe that’s exactly what cost him those titles at McLaren...

Sure, Alonso might have missed out on a few trophies by being too calculated, but honestly, would he even be in the running if he wasn't playing it smart instead of constantly driving on the edge?

But calling him a moron for calculating his races? That's just not right.🙄

I sat through the whole race yesterday, start to finish.

The winner was Lewis Hamilton.

Maybe...
Even without all that tire bullshit, I still think it would have been Felipe Massa first. 🙏
Man, you only see a start like that once every twenty years.😳

Just brilliant... just as good as Lewis's qualifying lap. 🙏

He went straight into the line of fire. 🙂

Does anyone actually know what the tolerance threshold is for reaction times at the start, similar to how they measure it for track athletes?

It’s pretty funny how tire issues and podium failures ended up putting three inferior teammates on the step instead...

If things hadn't gone totally sideways, the podium could have easily looked identical in terms of teams and suits—only difference being, it would’ve featured the actual top drivers from each squad...

1. Lewis Hamilton
2. Sebastian Vettel
3. Massa

Yeah, possible. Though, you have to admit, it only holds true in that specific moment.
Vettel, absolutely.
But honestly, I wouldn't be 100% sure about Massa or Lewis either.

And you're right, the teams came out okay. Especially Alonso with Perez. We should all be glad things didn't get even uglier.

Massa had the worst crash, right in a fast corner. He handled it like a pro and managed to walk away. What a driver, seriously.

Honestly, it looks like Fernando Alonso might have had the most luck out of everyone there...
Seriously, what happened behind Sergio Perez could've turned into a total disaster if he’d pulled into the wrong side or been just a few inches closer to the tire...

Dammit, it's not just rubber you're hitting; there's a ton of metal involved too...
All in all, I'd say everyone walked away pretty lucky considering how much crap could have actually gone down.

Out of those three, only Vettel is officially the number one driver on his team.

Why are you making such a huge deal out of this already!?
Don't you get it? I gave your golden boy plenty of credit. For crying out loud, it’s not like I actually like him—I try to stay objective, even if it kills me.
Sebastian Vettel pretty much cemented his status as the No1 Red Bull driver during that race, while some others definitely failed to prove they belong on that level.

As for those miracles you're talking about, I'd say they don't exist. It’s exactly as I wrote it.

I'd say you're pretty far off...
Based on everything we heard on the broadcast, Hamilton clearly has the No1 driver status way more than Vettel does...
So when he starts singing about how he doesn't want it or didn't ask for it, save it. For Ross, Hamilton is No1, and at the end of the day, that's the only thing that matters.
