My bad. 😁 But I ended up voting for the candidate who felt more aligned with my views last week.

Even if the song titles on that Dolly Parton album were pretty wild and imaginative!

I've actually got a few female vocalists in mind—some in bands and some going solo—to suggest over the next couple of weeks... Oh, and that Sade album is definitely still a strong contender! 🙂

Gerald Jackson48 said:The vocals are definitely unconventional—but I guess even the Wu-Tang Clan had an atypical style that worked for them, so I actually liked it. I wouldn't say what Kurt Cobain does is bad, per se, it just didn't really blow me away, so I haven't kept much of his stuff on my playlist.

Sade is such a unique vocalist... honestly, someone you'd want to take to a desert island just to vibe out. 🙂

The band backing her is also brilliant, and those bass lines? They're pure gold, right up there with Thriller.

I love her voice—it’s easily one of the best female vocals out there. My only real gripe is that their albums sound pretty similar to one another, which can get a little repetitive sometimes. But since I usually just have it playing in the background while I'm reading or working, it doesn't really bother me that much.

I’ve been wanting to suggest Patti Smith’s 'Horses' for a while now. Also, maybe Portishead's 'Third',
(because Beth Gibbons is just incredible ♡) her voice is honestly one of a kind... and that whole album is a masterpiece.
Though, I don't know, it always feels a bit too dark for me, especially during these sweltering summer days.

"Man, my influences are all over the place. It's kind of a mess. But if I really had to pick just one? It’s gotta be Sade. She’s the total package." - Mike Patton, 1989

Lisa Davis46 said:Jason Mendoza, you always come out of left field. I just finished listening to Dax Riggs and man, he is incredible. I’d never even heard of him before, what a total find. I would have given him my vote too if I hadn't already messed up this poll today... I noticed Matt Sweeney produced his first album, and I’ve always been a huge fan of his guitar style—to pivot slightly on the subject of things we love—especially that polished record he did with Oldham: 'superwolf'

Solid choice. There's plenty more where that came from; check out this one: We are the night sky

It's the same guy, Dax Riggs. He started out in Acid Bath, which was honestly way ahead of its time—just a perfect blend of sludge, stoner, and death metal. A total classic. Unfortunately, Rotten Records keeps pulling their stuff off YouTube, so I can't even drop a link.

Then he moved into his solo work, three or four albums that are all top-tier.

He also has that Deadboy & Elephantmen project.

Sade just isn't my vibe, so I'm skipping her vote, but no hard feelings. 😁

The heat is absolutely brutal. Here’s an album that sounds like a gas leak in the middle of the woods (post-Sajgon).

Is there actually any kind of connection between Melvins and Tool?

Dammit, I already voted for Sijuxe. I really dig their energy, and at least Lisa Davis46 isn't whining about there being no women or all that other nonsense...
Though, honestly, the Melvins vocalist sounds almost identical to that guy from Toolovac.

But the Melvins vocalist sounds almost identical to that guy from Tool.

The Melvins have influenced a massive amount of bands—we're talking Tool, Neurosis, Mastodon, Isis, and so on. They even have the band Boris, which actually took its name from a Melvins track because they thought it was some deep, profound song, when in reality, the song was just about King Buzzo's cat.

They’re one of my favorite bands, mostly because they've collaborated with so many different artists; for instance, they have a killer album out with Lustmord, which is easily one of the best dark ambient records ever made.

As for Siouxsie, "Face to Face" is a top-tier catchy track, but honestly, that's about all I know.

Well, there just aren't any left, man. Fine, if you want some balance, I'll vote for Melvins instead.
🙂

Regarding the suggestions, I've only really listened to Siouxsie's 'Kaleidoscope' and this Heat (I've heard more of theirs, and this one is great),
but I guess I need to check out the rest... I've never listened to Gil Scott-Heron, just a couple of tracks, but it seems pretty good...

My suggestion might be a bit old news around here, but I had to share it.

And honestly, that new project by The Fearless Flyers is just phenomenal. https://vulf.bandcamp.com/album/the-fearless-flyers

I really wanted to tell you that this is finally something decent for a change. 😉

I’m actually into newer jazz directions lately. Someone on the forum mentioned those great Norwegian guys—those aggressive jazz musicians—or maybe some nu-jazz similar to what that Polish group Scalpel does. I gave this a listen this morning after you posted it; it's good, I guess, but honestly, it's kind of a bore.
