Jazz, huh? Here’s another one of my personal favorites that I can't stop spinning: Bohren & der club of gore

It’s just a bit darker and moodier than your standard jazz fare.

Oof, these guys are incredible right from the first few bars. I really dig how they build up that tension!

I've heard the hype about them, but I haven't actually sat down to listen yet...
It might work, though I guess this track sends you straight into a much more mellow headspace for the rest of the day.

Mark Cruz15 said:Is there any kind of connection between Melvins and Tool?

They're actually buddies. Adam Jones from Tool and Buzz from Melvins have opened shows for each other before. They even collaborate sometimes.

I'm casting my vote for Siouxsie just because I love seeing a tie in these polls! 😁

Besides, I feel like I've been waiting on this band forever, and for some reason, the little bit I've heard so far hasn't quite hooked me... so, hey, maybe now is finally the time to give it a proper listen. Since I've got a bit more breathing room this week, I might even drop a few thoughts instead of just leaving a rating...

It’s a bit of a shame they didn't go with a Kiss in The Dreamhouse vibe instead of Kaleidoscope, but hey, it is what it is...😁

That suggestion for I'm New here was spot on—it’s such an essential listen. Honestly, I feel like a broken record just mentioning it in different threads lately! Between that killer cover of Smog on the title track and Running being a total 21st-century masterpiece 😁

I still need to catch up on last week's album, and I'm really looking forward to checking out Siouxsie. That This Heat stuff definitely caught my eye, too. Looks like I've got plenty of music lined up 🎉

I've listened to the Gil Scott-Heron album a few times now after seeing the suggestion from Gerald Jackson48... It’s really beautiful, honestly, just full of soul... and that cover art is stunning. I didn't realize you had mentioned him before, so I guess I have to ask—do you have any other recommendations from his discography? Like, which albums should I dive into next, and in what order? 🙂

Yeah, that’s how it sounds. And those are actually allergens you shouldn't be avoiding. I'll give it a listen, thanks. 🙂

Is it time for some suggestions? It’s been pretty quiet today 😁

I was thinking back to a few albums I recently discovered. On that first listen, they definitely hit the mark, though I haven't sat down for a deep dive yet to really give them a fair shake. It feels like the perfect moment to circle back to them, especially since I’ve started noticing these cool sonic threads connecting them to the Gary Numan and Siouxsie and Banshees records I've been spinning lately...

John Foxx: Metamatic - my pick for this week

Duran Duran: Duran Duran - my pick for next week

If I can get these in now, let's get them on the books so I don't miss my window to suggest them! 😁

The Beach Boys – Surfer Girl (2018)

image

Shannon and The Beach Boys – Surfer Girl kicked things off with a bit of a pop-punk vibe, but they eventually drifted toward that rockabilly and doo-wop sound... I've spent quite a bit of time digging through most of their discography, and honestly, this latest record feels like their absolute peak so far. Official Website.

Tracklist:

1 The Beatles – Abbey Road 3:03
2 It's Gonna Go Away 3:12
3 Backstreets 3:28
4 If You Could Know 1:53
5 I Never Wanted Love 3:40
6 Onion 2:49
7 Did You Love Me 3:32
8 Love strike 2:49
9 I leave Again 3:11
10 The Beatles – Abbey Road 2:24
11 Tell Me When You Leave 2:24
12 Strange Wind 3:23
13 The Beatles – Rubber Soul 4:01

Lakshminarayan Shankar – Who's to know (1981)

Two emotions—though some might argue they aren't really distinct at all. Lakshminarayan Shankar absolutely tears it up on a custom double violin of his own design.

That was quick. 🙂

I'll wait for a sixth suggestion, if anyone else actually wants to weigh in...

If there’s actually room left, I’d throw in !(an opera) by Dogbowl 😁

This new poll is a mess. You’ve got two votes again (right away, not after the fact).

Honestly, the only thing on this list worth a damn is Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 2. I went with John Foxx—mostly because I just couldn't stand the thought of Hendrix winning with an album that's mediocre even by his own overhyped studio standards.

In my book, Electric Ladyland and Are You Experienced are easily Hendrix's greatest hits. If I had to cast a vote right now, I’d go with those in a heartbeat. As for the rest of this list? I haven't really spent much time with them yet. I think I'll do a little digging and give them a listen before I officially submit my ballot—who knows, there might be some absolute gems in there.

This Hendrix album is pretty solid too, though it’s definitely lacking those massive, chart-topping hits... still, if you're someone who just lives for incredible musicianship, you're going to love what's happening here.

Sometimes I’ll throw out an album on purpose even if it isn’t considered one of the absolute best. Honestly, I think Hendrix is the only real classic in this bunch... As for the rest, it's not that I haven't listened to them, it's just that I haven't even heard of most of them 😁
