My take

Ensemble tre Fontane-Le Chant des Troubadours Vol 1 : Aquitains ( 1992 ) EDIT

🎉

Edit:

So, first I heard this track totally out of nowhere, completely stripped of its context, and man, it sounded like the weirdest thing I’d ever heard in my life.

Honestly, albums like this can be a bit much to digest at once. But there's something about that challenge—that intrigue—that keeps me coming back. I find myself circling back to stuff like this until it finally starts to click (assuming, of course, that it’s actually worth the effort).

redbear12 said:Is it just the mods picking the albums of the week? How does this all work?

And can it be any genre? Like, could a classical album or some early folk stuff be the album of the week?

Anyone can pitch one, and any genre goes! We usually collect suggestions on Thursdays when the poll drops (once we've got about five picks ready). But, since we know not everyone hangs out here on Thursdays, we’ll occasionally make exceptions for early suggestions—especially for folks who don't usually chime in...

Honestly, though, I’d love to see more than just suggestions. I really want our new members to jump into the existing threads too! Even if an album isn't the current pick for the week, those threads stay open specifically so you can chat whenever you feel like it...

Look, we'll definitely keep this album in mind for the upcoming poll, but remember, it's only Monday and we're already on day three of the current pick...

Yeah, so we’ve got three suggestions on the table right now. William Foster15 mentioned one, and Arthur Brown6 is still deciding what they're going to post. Honestly, I don't really care if we end up with more than five or six options this Thursday, but I think it'd be fair if the new people suggesting stuff actually show up to listen and chat about it.

Arthur Brown6 said:I've been spinning some killer soul albums from the early seventies over the last few days, so here's the question for our next pick: afrobeat, dub reggae, or New York Jazz?

Are we talking Fela? 🙂 I've had a lot of his stuff on my playlist lately too, which reminded me I totally forgot to mention him somewhere else...

But if you're asking me, I'm voting for that last option you mentioned. It's definitely an acquired taste, though picking blindly is always tough.

Of course it's Fela, specifically Roforofo Fight. Now that I've seen this week's lineup, the other two are Upsetters 14 Dub Black board Jungle and On The Corner.

You could go with Manu Dibango or maybe Ginger Baker. Among others.

Seriously though—who hasn't heard this Billboard hit?

Are we taking new suggestions yet?

If so, I'm throwing out Songs : Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co.

It’s easily my favorite album—honestly, my neighbors probably know "Just be Simple" by heart at this point.

Alright, let's try this.

So, I basically talked Amanda Robinson4 into running an experiment this week, limiting us to a max of 10 album suggestions.

Everyone gets two votes. My goal here is to breathe some life back into this "colder days" thread and get more people actually involved—and I don't just mean dropping a title, but actually participating in the discussions if you can...
🙂

We already have 5 albums locked in.
William Foster15, Arthur Brown6, redbear12, Dennis Hall41, and Jason White17 have all put their picks in. Everything is noted.

Let's save the remaining 5 spots for tomorrow, specifically for those of you who usually drop your suggestions early in the morning...

Starting with the next one—album number 20—Amanda Robinson4 is going to add a clearer rule to the intro post. Basically, we'll probably move to a system where suggestions only happen Wednesday night or Thursday morning, capped at maybe 5 or 6 albums within a specific window. Unless, of course, this larger batch and the double voting prove to be more productive... in which case, I guess we'll just figure out something better as we go. 🙂

Bury me Deep in Love ( single ) a Trick of The light (single)

A Trick Of The Light (single)

Unmade Love (favorite)

Kelly`s Blues (second favorite)

Since I know there’s basically a zero percent chance this ever gains any traction, I'm just posting this to give myself some closure regarding this absolute masterpiece by David McComba & Co.....

That is, unless this current method of allowing more entries and double voting proves to be more productive... if it does, we’ll just brainstorm a better way forward. 🙂

I think I'll actually pass on making any suggestions this time around; I'm sitting this week's discussion out.

On another note, I think the decision to clarify the rules in the intro post is a great move for everyone's future reference...

'Forest vs Waves' (2019)

For a few reasons, mostly because I think this hits that moderate tempo perfectly for transitioning from late summer into fall. It’s all instrumental, psychedelic, and meditative—zero lyrics. I should probably say goodbye before I hand this thread over entirely to Amanda Robinson4 for the rest of September, since I’m finally heading out to listen to actual nature sounds and ocean waves—real ones, not whatever is happening in this photo, hopefully...

Also, this is pretty much the polar opposite of our last album of the week, so it felt like a good comparison. What you hear is what you get; they recorded everything straight to tape using strictly triple-analog technology. I have the vinyl, but I swear you can feel the difference even on the digital version (Andy Jackson did the mastering, the guy who worked with Pink Floyd), the sound just has this incredible depth and warmth...

And the guys say it goes like this:

"The whole album was recorded live, no overdubs or layering. The idea was to capture a pure musical mirror, basically a sonic photograph of the band exactly as they are. The way the record was tracked and mixed helped too. We used an AAA approach called triple-analog technology. This means a computer wasn't used once during the entire process. Everything was recorded and mixed onto magnetic tape, which was then cut directly for vinyl. There is no separate mastering stage. "

Folks, we practically tore up the tape heads on the machine, so let's hope it wasn't for nothing and that you enjoy it. "

Cheers from the Forest!"

Note on the back of the cover:
"This record needs to be played loud."

Why won't the system let me write an intro post so I can actually drown him out with some real noise? 😁

Too bad Arthur Brown6 didn't drop Fight Club. It’s easily my favorite Kennedy album—especially that 70-minute expanded version.

Eh, I already wrote that on the last thread when he asked.
Maybe Feline would have fared better on a gloomy gray day like this... 🙂

Everything is fine with me today, but man, every single suggestion is tough. I've already listened to half of them, and since I started going through the rest in order, I honestly have no clue who to vote for (or not). I guess I’m happy that I made the choice so complicated for all of you too—the poll is looking pretty colorful and diverse already!
